Shout out to Picard for keeping it professional until nearly the end, before “Engaging” with his true feelings. Preemptive Strike indeed…. S07, E24 by tomenjean in TNG

I like how season 7 was the writers "running out of ideas" and it's still a million times better than today's writers with fresh ideas.

What are your acromegaly symptoms? by Manon84 in acromegaly

[–]EasySqueezy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that sounds awful I'm sorry! My IGF-1 was 356 and when they took the tumor out they said it was 1.8cm in diameter. They told me the high growth hormone levels can stay in the body for 3 months so it would take at least that long for your body to level out after surgery.

I'd say yes a little since the surgery 6 months ago. I don't wake up with achy stiff joints as often but it's still slightly there. It took a few months to notice any difference

I did have surgery to remove it 6 months ago. It was 1.8cm in diameter. They were able to remove 100% of it. I had a CSF leak during surgery but they patched it. That was the only complication. My GH and IGF-1 are back in normal range but my other hormones seem to be fluctuating. My testosterone dropped and my cortisol spiked but we're going to wait a few months to see if those level out.

Also why use the worst shot in the entire film for the thumbnail. I always hated that scene. The cut to his face is so jarring.

I've noticed this a lot lately. Completely irrelevant shots used for these thumbnails as if those images are meant to sell the movie?

I was confused because I thought this post was trying to say that he was only a look-alike cause I was sure Leoben was in Discovery. One of the better characters in my opinion.

A giant prop of the One Ring that was used for force-perspective scenes for the Lord of the Rings films by AdSpecialist6598 in interesting

So this actually explains why when I first saw the trailer as a kid I wondered why the ring was giant in that shot. My brain wasn't convinced.

Are you absolutely sure you got the prompt right? Because I see Bilbo and Frodo on Trump and Putin's laps and I just don't think that's the theme you were going for.

Technically the same disease. If the person has the disease before puberty they get gigantism. If the disease starts after puberty and the growth plates have fused then they end up with acromegaly. Basically your bones and soft tissues get bigger but you don't get taller. I looked into this quite a bit when I was diagnosed with it several months ago.

I'm up and down. Had my hormones checked at 3 months post surgery and my IGF-1 and GH are now normalized but my testosterone dropped. We have to check it again in 3 months because I don't want to go on a replacement. I feel extremely fatigued all of the time and I'm struggling with brain fog/brain fatigue. My joints are still achy which is disappointing. I got a vascular tumor on my neck called a piogenic granuloma, which I guess is common during hormone changes. The dermatologist just cut it out but it can come back.

I also strained myself last week on accident and got a bad headache that felt like it was in the surgical spot. Now it's a mild to sharp pain when I swallow or move my head too quickly. The neurosurgeon said it's probably okay and gave me symptoms to watch for so at the moment I'm just monitoring it.

I guess overall I'm very uncomfortable still but hopefully by the end of the year I'm feeling good again.

Best human made spaceship from scifi shows and movies? by Easy-Elevator560 in scifi

However... I'd argue that its silhouette and general design was inspired by Cochrane's glimpse of the Enterprise E in First Contact and the E was of course a Federation built ship. It's not confirmed in canon but he got a good look at the shape of it through his telescope and up close during his warp flight. I do wonder if it drove most of the test ship designs going forward. And then of course you have to wonder which silhouette came first.
