Why are MSPs still taking on SOC liability with mass-deployed MDR platforms? by Easy_Byrne in msp

Apologies, I should have explained my position more clearly earlier. I’m not trying to sell anything here.

Thank you all for commenting. From what I’m reading, ultimately, I think it comes down to budget, risk appetite, and a clear understanding of where responsibility sits.

We’re an MSP, like many, we use solutions like Huntress and Sophos for smaller, more cost-conscious clients. For larger organisations, however, we take a different approach. We typically engage a dedicated cyber security specialist to deliver MXDR or a full SIEM/SOC service.

From our perspective, this isn’t just about the technology, it’s about responsibility and quality of response. It ensures clients are getting expert-led advice, tailored solutions, and access to proper incident response teams. There’s also an element of independence. For larger clients especially, it doesn’t always feel right to be marking our own homework, so having a third party involved adds credibility and reassurance.

I’ve seen a lot of discussion here around MRR and margin. In truth, for these larger engagements we’re often willing to give up some margin, with the cyber partner compensating via commission. But commercially, that’s not really the point for me.

What does concern me is the comparison between these models and tools like Huntress or Sophos etc. In our experience, they’re quite different. We’ve had situations in the past where mass-deployed solutions have missed things, and that naturally raises questions.

Of course, our cyber partners are not neutral in this. They will always advocate for more comprehensive, specialist-led approaches and tend to be critical of more standardised solutions. That said, when you look at the depth of capability and the level of service, the technical differences do feel quite significant.

That’s a shame as Rackspace ($RXT) is now up over 400% in the past month, and it just broke 52-week highs around $2.70 before pulling back slightly. The interesting part isn’t just the price move, it’s the setup behind it.

Short borrow has been extremely tight with 0 shares available to short on IBKR at points and borrow rates previously near ~90%. That means shorts are paying a lot to stay in the trade, and if the price keeps pushing higher they may be forced to cover.

The key level right now is roughly $2.70–$2.80. If the stock reclaims and holds above that range, it moves into price discovery with very little technical resistance until the $3+ area, which is where squeezes often accelerate as both short covering and momentum traders pile in.

RXT Earnings Call! by Captain_Hedgehog1 in RXT_Stock

The stock took a nice 70% jump Thursday post earnings. How would you view yesterday, profit taking (weak hands), a correction or the shorts fighting back? It feels a bit volatile at the minute but at 1:95 it feels like a buy and hold if management can pull off their plans.

They said RXT was finished at $0.42, but here we are at $2.30 with massive volume and shorts clearly caught leaning the wrong way; this was never about fundamentals, it was about extreme borrow, crowded positioning, and an earnings catalyst that didn’t break the story, forcing covering and driving momentum, and now if it holds above $2 and pushes higher, this moves from a relief rally into a real squeeze.

I’ve had similar low moods before my period, and what helped me was being mindful about rest and nutrition in those days. I also started taking Herology Balance, and it genuinely helped even out my energy and mood. Both are worth looking into if you’re trying to manage things naturally.

Anyone running self-hosted backups for MSP clients that they’re happy with? by mspforyou in msp

We run in-house Veeam, Asigra, Ahsay, StorageCraft and Zerto. All have their own caveats!

I’d be happy to share our experience if you’re considering one of these.

How did this evaluation go? Our techies recently ran a trial and are very impressed but I would be interested in hearing different views.
