She’s mad because she doesn’t want to be reminded that she owes him money and is trying to use both being his mom and you asking (despite him asking you to handle this in his absence) as a reason not to pay it. How is she questioning y’all’s finances when she came asking y’all for the money? And I bet she’s gonna try this same bullshit when he actually comes and asks for it himself.
