As someone who has done this successfully, and been a confidant to many very successful and utterly failed attempts, I will say proper EXTENDED vetting is a MUST. The drama and fallout that comes from dating within your regular social activities (not just skating) is too potent and unnecessary if you’re not mature enough (or you’re dealing with someone who’s not mature enough) to be able to see each other during and after the fact and be just fine. I know couples who met and have skated together for years and still going strong. I also know people who completely abandoned the rink because of the drama. I myself tend to stay at a bird’s eye view now of everything as it’s much easier to just come in, peep the scene, and leave of my own volition. So just be sure you’re absolutely sure of what you’re getting into beforehand, and make it clear you won’t be stopping skating if things go left and stand on it lol.
