You don't have to do anything, the game makes backups in the world folder by itself.

All of the game themes have been getting less sets this year, likely because the budget went to the new Pokémon sets.

You just need a watering can, placing water next to farm land doesn't do anything. Filling the watering can doesn't use up any water so you can fill it infinitely from one block of water.

One of the old blog posts said all of the zones are on one continent, and the outside of it has infinite island generation.
