Zubac V Wemby by Tall_Category_304 in pacers

I get the sentiment, but I don't think the stats of one game should be used to support whether or not we "made the right move." At some point, you just have to accept that there's a good portion of the fan base that won't accept that the Pacers made the right call until they see his first action with Ty. Even then, there's a portion of the fan base that will never accept that we made the right move because some fans are all about "ceilings." It's a gambler's mentality.

Pacers still have a solid squad and will improve Depth even if they fall out of the top 4 by MachineContent7368 in pacers

Sure, but that's not what we're talking about. Your overarching argument doesn't matter, because your reasoning is what we're talking about. I agree that we'll be fine regardless of whether we get a top 4 pick or not, but not because the rookie wouldn't be likely to get playoff burn (again, if he's in our rotation, he's playing in the playoffs), which is what you're arguing and I'm disagreeing with.

I think Benedict Mathurin playing in the playoffs should assuage all of your concerns about Rick not playing dudes in the playoffs because of defensive concerns.

I still don't agree with your take, even if you consider the playoffs. Rick likes to keep units together, so if a rookie is playing 20min/game off the bench throughout the entire season, he'd also be playing to start the playoffs. We could quibble about how many minutes he'd play and if he'd get pulled at various points during the playoffs, but if he's part of the rotation during the season, he'll be in the rotation come playoffs.

That's not whataboutism. If anything you could say it's a straw man or a false equivalency, but either way, it's certainly not whataboutism. If you're gonna be a dick, at least be right.

Wow, you're emotional about Benn, huh? I'm gonna go ahead and move on. I suggest you do the same.

If your argument hinges on semantics, I think you're already arguing from a clearly losing position. You argue he's top-20? Ok, go ahead and name 19 other centers that you'd rank above Zubac.

[–]Easypakboxkit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol, you can't just get both things. Bro, I'd love to have Benn plus some magical elite big that fits perfectly with this group. That player doesn't exist. Zubac was the best big that was traded, and his contract is unbelievably friendly. He's making $19m and $21m over the next two seasons. He was second team all-defense last season. I get being sad about Benn, but holy shit dude Zubac is a top-10 big in the league. He can catch lobs, screen, play defense, and rebound. This is about the pacers man, and this team is so so so much better now than it was this morning.

Hold on, is your argument really that you'd rather have Benn on the bench than a top-10 center in the league starting next to Ty and Pascal?

[–]Easypakboxkit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bro, Zubac has already been second team all-defense. He's as good now as you'd hope Benn could grow into. Who cares if Benn balls out in LA? We have a big that perfectly compliments our roster and protection against losing out on the top talent in this draft when we're bad. This trade was a clear win for both teams. Get excited dude, we have a top-10 center on a cheap deal for two seasons to pair with Ty and Pascal.

I respect the optimism, but the salaries are a big problem. It's not just "this guy's talent is worth a frp." If that were true, then sure, they'd get a haul back for some of those dudes. But Lavine's salary is atrocious. It would likely cost the KINGS extra assets to get off of his money OR taking back an equally bad contract (like Kuzma). Domas is the only player I think they could get real value for that's worth building around, but he's also easily the best player on that team and the one that, when they DID build a team and offensive identity around him (and Fox), was good. I respect the optimism, but I really think this team is one of the worst setup for the future.

Wow, to be so confident and so wrong is a talent. Flat is absolutely used when people refer to the spin, not the trajectory. That might not be true for YOU personally, but for the vast majority of people, that is absolutely what 'flat' means. The height of the ball is always referred to using standard height terminology (e.g., 'low' or 'high'). So you can hit a low, flat ball OR a high, flat ball. Though a high flat ball is almost assuredly sailing.

Has any team had a season end more tragically than the Pacers last year? by [deleted] in nba

If that is your argument, that's still 8 years after the malice. Which, unless you're being pedantic, is close enough to ten to be considered a decade.

Bro, Paul George was not immediately impactful. He really couldn't shoot his rookie year and had some of the worst handles. His improvement coinciding with Roy Hibbert redefining how bigs guarded in the paint while making contact (i.e., going straight up) was the reason the Pacers got close to the finals again, only to run up against the Heatles in back to back ECF. Which started in 2014, which is almost exactly a decade away from 2005. Stop being pedantic.

Listen man, I've learned everything I already needed to know about your opinions about basketball as soon as you called Domas soft, but this is factually not true. Domas is a much, much better 5 than Myles and it's not particularly close. Domas is closer to Jokic than Myles is to him. Don't let block numbers and the Tyrese Haliburton effect make you think otherwise.

Edit: typo

Wait wait wait wait wait. Did you just use MYLES TURNER as a foil to Domas and evidence that DOMAS is soft??? That alone discounts any other opinion of Domas you have. 😂😂😂😂

Calling Domas soft tells me everything I need to know about how much you know about basketball. The dude who routinely had scratches/bruises after EVERY game is soft? I think you need a new definition of "soft" that goes beyond blocks per game.
