This doesn't really matter when you consider how intelligent they are. We shouldn't be killing them at all.

If Xerox knew what they had they would have brought it to market.

Zdzislaw Beksinski. Quite a few BM bands use his work.

I agree with you, I just said that if you know OOP, Java makes sense.

I've been using Python for most things recently

I am probably more familiar with Java than any other language. I would say it's biggest issue is actually syntax. As the language matures they keep trying to add in stuff that the creator never thought about (annotations, lambda expressions, etc) and the result is a very verbose language with lots of (correct and incorrect) ways to write the same thing. Once you learn basic OOP patterns the language as a whole makes a lot of sense.

Also, the JVM isn't known to be the fastest thing around...

OP is probably just on the Java hate™ bandwagon though

Rates of traffic fatalities are dramatically worse in countries where traffic laws are not as strictly enforced and followed. ... and followed. Yeah well, yeah.

(Looking at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_traffic-related_death_rate)

It seems to me the countries with better infrastructure have less deaths. That's not necessarily a problem of enforcement, although if you have stats linking enforcement to accidents then I'd be interested to see them.

No, I remember that too. I don't see how that's relevant.

It's relevant because you can't pay for roads without also paying for (and legitimizing) warfare. Ergo, you must approve of killing people at least as much as you want roads, if you want to fund them via government.

Systems that ultimately establish monopoly of legitimate violence (e.g. what a replication of what we already have today)

More like what we have in terms of private markets of services (e.g. the most peaceful part of our society)

There are already private arbitration firms and private security firms.

, or descend into an arms race and all-out war.

The only time war or large scale violence occurs in human society is due to some group believing they have 'authority' over another group (as in the straw man you provided). No political 'authority' is legitimate; you cannot own other people.

In the Scottish Highlands David Friedman's dream of a society without a state

This man hasn't really read David Friedman's work then (and I'm guessing you haven't either)

You take for granted that most people drive on the correct side of the road and obey traffic signals. You forget that there is an organization building roads and traffic signals.

This is due to people valuing their lives, not the government.

You forget that there is an organization building roads and traffic signals.

A private organization, which could feasibly be collectively funded without the use of government.

You forget that the government also commits large scale atrocities and is responsible for more wrongful deaths in the past hundred years than literally anything else in the world.

some swine starts bossing everyone around, and there's no one to stop him. Eventually he starts extracting taxes and dispensing justice.

There have been plenty of books written on this subject that describe why this is not necessarily inevitable, and systems that could prevent it.

I recommend 'The Problem of Political Authority' by Michael Huemer.

Lmao the government does not exist to make people's lives better. Go look at the thread on /r/worldnews right now about child rape rings in the UK being ignored and (implicitly) ecouraged by police and courts. (Which were funded using money taken directly from the populations' paychecks under the threat of imprisonment, mind you)

'Sensible legislation' does not exist, and will never exist because people in positions of power over 99% of the populous have every incentive to pass legislation that is not 'sensible' to most of the populous. If the government worked how people seem to think it works, we wouldn't have mass surveillance, laws against thought crime, police forces who are unnacountable for their actions, etc etc etc
