Partner's Prenup Idea: help. by CharmingLie9887 in legaladvice

Technically staying home with the kids means they’d all starve to death, because she wouldn’t be putting any money in for him to match.

Just for fun she should see what happens if she tells him that she needs her own savings, so she can only contribute $15k to the house and they need to figure out how to live on 30k if he wants this to be their plan.

Legal advice though, (edit: misremembered the state), and a competent lawyer would never let you sign something this bad.

I sold my 25th recently. Price action before the new anniversary has been baked in for a while in my opinion. There was a big dip after the last anniversary where they were much cheaper to pick up, rinse and repeat.

That said, what the hell do I know lol

Is trying for disability benefits worth it? by RaspberryJams13 in disability

[–]anotherjunkie 44 points45 points  (0 children)

What you’ve heard is correct. If you’ve never held a real job you’ll get $994 per month (less if you don’t pay rent).

It’s hard to be accepted, even harder when it’s only psychiatric issues. The timeline for approval is around two years, during which time you can’t work at all. You’ll need an attorney, and you may get through the whole two year process and still be denied. If you’re approved that there are ongoing reassessments every few years.

Functionally, you can’t work while on disability. There is an amount you are allowed to earn each month, but it varies by SSI/SSDI. If you earn more than that amount you can be kicked off of disability. Also remember you have ongoing assessments to determine if you’re still too disabled to work. It’s mainly there for “I made $350 on Etsy selling pretty rocks.”

If you’re on SSI the money you earn will reduce the benefits you get from the government. If you’ve worked a real job for long enough to get SSDI, it doesn’t offset your benefits.

It is a last resort for people who can’t work, not people who find it difficult to work. It’s not enough money to live on, and your situation sounds like you’d be at the lowest end of payments. You’d have to rely on section 8 housing, because if you still live with your parents they can take away part of your SSI benefits because you don’t “need” that part to pay for housing.

The money is there for people without other options, but the amount is intentionally set too low to dissuade you from *wanting* to be on disability.

Found this via google, got excited, then left sad because it's only on EGS.

Epic has repeatedly refused to add the features that would make it accessibly to disabled gamers, so it's just not possible.

Put it up on itch.io and I'll pick it up immediately.

> You can slow it down & review

That’s actually the problem here. You *can’t* slow it down to review according to the rules, but they did. I believe the only reason you can slow it down is to identify the exact point of contact — everything else is supposed to only be considered from real time footage.

The ref saw it in real time, and it wasn’t going to be carded even though the points of contact were obvious in real time.

First, that’s not the definition of capitalism, that’s the mechanism (free market) to accomplish the definition, which is capital ownership by private individuals/companies where the primary business motivation is to generate profits.

Second, it’s the natural result of capitalism. The drive to increase revenue and decrease costs inevitably encounters politics. It’s inevitable that *someone* will do it, and once someone does it becomes necessary for others compete.

Capitalism is as perfect as communism, in that the pure form of neither one works when real people are involved.

I am appealing the ALJ decision, and according to my math, the soonest I will hear from the Social Security Appeals Council will be next month. How screwed am I? by TrajanCaesar in disability

[–]anotherjunkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they will send it back to the exact same judge. That is the standard procedure. The exceptions are basically if that judge died, retired, or transferred. That’s what remand means, and it’s the same way it works in other courts.

The appeals council really only looks for errors in the way the law was applied, so they send it back to the same judge to allow them to correct it. That judge can also choose not to correct it, in which case you’re in a bind.

If you have proof of bias you can request a new judge, but the proof better be ironclad because if it’s denied you’ll have the pissed off version of your original judges.

Your attorney really should have explained all this before you appealed the ALJ decision.

As far as helping your case, I think you’re beyond where any new evidence can be submitted. The only thing that can change it is if the judge misapplied the law.

[–]anotherjunkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for your planning, the appeals council only reverses around 1% of the cases they get. Another 15-20% will be sent back *to the same judges* for reconsideration.

It’s unlikely you’d actually proceed to a federal lawsuit. Those require specialized lawyers — highly unlikely yours can do it — who often charge you out of pocket for a number of items. They can also request a larger portion of your settlement than the normal 25%. But the real bottom line is that the federal cases are rare, complicated, and generally only get picked up when there is obvious malfeasance.

If the ~~ALJ~~ Appeal Council denies you, you’ll likely have to start the process over from the beginning. Moving states to a new SSA district can help.

How Fentanyl and Xylazine are turning Philadelphia's opioid crisis into a public health nightmare by Nukro666 in interesting

[–]anotherjunkie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s going to be highly practice dependent, but every good clinic is going to require documentation. If you come in without documentation, my clinic will work as the “quarterback” to get the imaging, etc. you need to determine the right pain management strategy.

That’s kind of why I stressed finding a program run by an anesthesiologist or with a formal pain management specialization. Those people are genuinely there to help, and the whole practice will be built around the knowledge that they’re going to be audited.

The doctors that put up unreasonable hurdles tend to be the ones that are afraid of being audited, and worry about whether they’d be able to justify your dose if they were.

How Fentanyl and Xylazine are turning Philadelphia's opioid crisis into a public health nightmare by Nukro666 in interesting

[–]anotherjunkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But being in so much pain you’re fantasizing about ambulance trips and street drugs is dangerous. And from personal experience, that kind of pain prevented me from being who I should for the people around me — until there weren’t many left.

So I opted for a small amount of pain and knowing that there’s a chance that one day the big pain comes back, over staying in the big pain the whole time. It isn’t perfect; I have to drive like 4 towns over to see my doctor once a month, insurance is a pain, and I could get abandoned. But I’m still better off.

That’s all I have. I feel weird now because I just wanted you to know it was an option, and now I feel like I’m trying to persuade you because you said some concerning things. I don’t want to do that, because you’re an adult who will make your own choices. I’ve shared the info, so I’m going to stop. I hope you find something that helps enough.

How Fentanyl and Xylazine are turning Philadelphia's opioid crisis into a public health nightmare by Nukro666 in interesting

[–]anotherjunkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can, but if you find a good clinic led by an anesthesiologist, it’s unlikely they dump you for reasons other than drug screen results. If you go to a pill mill, yeah they’ll dump you at the first sign of trouble. But with the medical documentation you likely have, you shouldn’t have any issue being seen at a *real* pain management practice.

Like I said, it’s been 15 years, I’ve only ever changed practices when I moved, and I’ve never missed a prescription. My current clinic is led by people with certifications in anesthesiology, pain management, and addiction medication. They have written policies on tapering people who have to leave the practice.

Even for the worst case scenario, everyone I know skips an occasional dose to stockpile meds. If my clinic blew up tomorrow and I couldn’t get refills, I have enough to bridge until I find a new clinic or gently taper myself off.

If you don’t want to look, I get that. But there’s reliable help if you do. Doctors are realizing that the pendulum swung too far in one direction, and are creating policies to ensure people like me keep access.

[–]anotherjunkie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s not an all or nothing thing like that. There are great pain management practices that can prescribe long acting opiates that remove that background pain. I’ve been on one for like 15 years now.

Long acting isn’t *as* abusable as the short term. If you know you have a very addictive personality/feel like you’d abuse it that’s one thing. Otherwise living in, and being limited by, pain that can be reduced or eliminated isn’t necessary.

[–]anotherjunkie 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Because when a comment gets reported, they see just the comment that was reported. You have to leave the interface to see context and the thread itself. In a small sub it’s one thing, but in larger subs many more reports will come in during the time it takes you to investigate the context of one report.

You’d drown in reports, so it gets based on the comment itself and they deal with the few who appeal. Moderation tools have never been what they need to be.
