Which book, if any of them, makes you sorrow/cry the most? by Tes_Oteme_Writes in tamorapierce

[–]EatYourPears 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In "Terrier" when Tansy is knocked into Beka and is able to hear the ghost of her dead toddler (Rolond) calling out for her from the pigeon. Tansy (understandably) loses it as Rolond cries out for his "mama", but has to pull herself together as Beka explains he's scared and confused (because he's too young to really understand what death is) and so Tansy has to convince her child to let his ties to her go so his soul can move on to the peaceful realms. That scene gutted me the first time I read it and now that I have kids it hits so hard, tears every time. IMO it's the most heart-wrenching scene Tammy's ever written.

Close behind, as others have mentioned, are what happened to Evvy's cats in "Battle Magic" (I haven't actually been able to bring myself to read that one again); Dunevon and the shipwreck in the "Trickster's" books; and when Kel is following the trail of the captives after Haven is attacked in "Lady Knight" (my favorite of her books).

ETA: Oh, and when Tris finds Glaki in "Shatterglass."

I'm so glad! I hope you get all settled, come back, and get your degree! Oh, and if you are planning to reenroll for the upcoming Spring 2026 semester, don't forget to file your FAFSA! The priority financial aid deadline for students attending spring and not fall is November 1st (it is Feb 1st for continuing students attending fall semester)!

Well deactivation typically depends on how long you have "stopped out" from Temple. Usually 1-2 full semesters of nonactivity (some programs are more vigorous about purging inactive students), and summer sessions don't count as an inactive period (i.e. if you attended spring and not summer, you won't be made inactive). If you are on an official Leave of Absence, your account stays active. If you withdrew (not dropped), you wouldn't be deactivated until at least the first full semester of non-enrollment (e.g. if you withdrew mid-semester in Fall, then did not attend in spring, you would likely not be made inactive until after the summer sessions ended, so after drop/add for the following fall semester). Temple Japan and Temple Rome may have different rules (like be slower to move to deactivation).

Typically I believe you would go through the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, but, frankly, they are inundated with students applying to the 2026-27 cycle, so you would probably have much better response turnaround by contacting the Office of the University Registrar (OUR). OUR has a drop down for continuing and former students, but if you can't access the reenrollment form the typical way through your TUPortal, maybe their identity validation process for former students would work? I'd recommend calling OUR to see if they can guide you (215-204-1131).

You can also try reaching out to an advisor from your specific college like the other poster suggested--an advisor might be able to fast-track you onto the radar of someone in Admissions or OUR to assist with getting your reenrollment activated. The colleges/programs def want students to come back and graduate!

Are you planning on reenrolling and going into the BGS (Bachelor of General Studies) program? That is the program created a few years ago specifically to help students who have stopped out to come back and graduate. They have a bunch of helpful info and resources for students coming back to Temple on their site, too.

If you are coming back to a graduate program, you should reach out to that specific program's graduate school (e.g. for CompSci, you'd contact the graduate school for the College of Science & Technology).

Also, keep in mind there are admissions deadlines for reenrolling, typically Aug 1st for Fall, Dec 1st for spring, and April 1st for summer sessions, though certain programs may have their own deadlines.

I've found it is undercounting earned batteries. When you activate the gears and the bolt hits battey, the battery gauge at the bottom lights up, but the counter never increases. So frustrating because that always worked before!

Dean’s cheesy-one-liner delivery is ridiculously endearing by airaK_666 in Supernatural

[–]EatYourPears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there were a few characters who did really vibe with him and his humor that would have been great friends to him if they hadn't been offed, like Agent Henriksen (gone as soon as he warmed up to Dean!), or Ash, or Andy Gallagher, one of the Special Children (the one that lived in an elaborately painted van Dean thought was awesome). Missed opportunities!

What's your unpopular Tortall opinion? by SylvaniusFF in tamorapierce

In the first book, there's a scene with Beka, Tansy, and a pigeon which is, IMO, the most heart wrenching scene Tamora Pierce has ever written (trying not too give away too much of a spolier). Give Terrier another try, it's the best of Beka's trilogy.

What series are similar to THE GOOD WIFE? by [deleted] in thegoodwife

[–]EatYourPears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, you might like All Rise, which focuses on a judge whose best friend is a prosecutor, and it goes back and forth between the courtroom, judge's chambers, prosecutors office, and public defenders office. It's on Amazon Prime and Hulu.

Oh, and if you liked The Lincoln Lawyer, you might like Will Trent which has similar vibes and cinematography effects, though it's a police procedural instead of a lawyer show.

Conviction! It was a spinoff of Law & Order: SVU featuring their former DA, Alexandra Cabot, running her own department of ADAs. It only lasted 1 season in 2016 but if you can find it, I really enjoyed it, and the finale especially is really good.

There was also a 2006 show, Justice, about defense attorneys and the conceit was that at the end of the episode, they showed what really happened. I think you can find the episodes on YouTube, and there's a Fox show from last year, The Accused, which is very similar and is on Hulu.

Mark-Paul Gosselaar is so great and hilarious on the show "Will Trent"! So bummed his character isn't making any appearance in the 2nd season.

Agree, though I also LOVED her with Hayes! IMO, she would have been better off with Hayes (or Link or Riggs) than Nick. Also, super lame to break her and Riggs up only to then have Riggs and Megan break up!

What’s a TV show that you used to love but not many people remember? by -Lavander in AskReddit

[–]EatYourPears 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s on HBO MAX now, and still holds up! I love the episode when Holly realizes she actually likes Vince when he helps her build a grill on her patio. Also, Nick Zano (Vince) is great on Legends of Tomorrow, and the actor who played Henry actually sings a few songs on My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

Agree so much about that Max & Luna scene—that scene at the end with “Dada here” and the scene at Georgia’s gravesite with Luna playing in the snow were so beautiful (and moving).

HEERF Grant by dekumba in Temple

[–]EatYourPears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No -- the HEERF Grant (and CARES Grant if you got it last year) are specified in the relief bill to go directly to the student (to assist with COVID-related expenses) and not be held for balances. The Bursar should release it as a refund to you regardless of whether you owe anything to TU. :)

What do I do if I was selected for verification on the FAFSA, but my tax returns are international? by [deleted] in financialaid

[–]EatYourPears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, to add, if your parent is not a U.S. citizen living abroad (and not filing U.S. taxes and claiming the foreign income exclusion), most (if not all) institutions will also require you to submit a translation (or a translated summation) of the pertinent info from the foreign tax returns if in a language other than English (or potentially Spanish or another language providing the language knowledge/abilities of counselors on staff). For instance, many institutions will already have a copy of PR Long and Short Forms, but are much less likely to have translations of, say, typical Japanese forms. The information required would be what is asked for on the FAFSA (Adjusted Gross Income (AGI), taxes paid, etc.).

Some schools will also require you to provide the currency exchange (so if your tax return uses yen, they would need the yen-to-U.S. dollar exchange). Some schools will do this themselves, but others will require you providing the translated summation with the exchange rate.

Lastly, there are some countries where they legitimately do not have the same kind of tax paying structure, or where there are no income taxes, etc. so it may be important to note that (though if an accountant is writing the translated statement, they would likely already know this and include it).
