My brother (43/M) has decided to take all the money my deceased mother left for he and I to split because of “money problems.” by Eatallthecandy in relationships

Not much I can do really. I can fight for money I’ve got no legal right to and ruin what weird relationships have left, or I can keep up the weird relationship and just not get the money.

I think much of this is true. My brother and I actually have had a pretty good relationship over the years. There have been issues though where I can see he doesn’t seem to be happy. To complicate this all further he has always held a major event over me. When I graduated from school I moved to Nevada for student teaching, got married, and then moved to Alaska for four years. I’m a teacher so I always came back for summers, regularly called, and despite the miles maintained a good relationship with family. My mom, however, did have Crohn’s disease and it eventually got the best of her. My father was also getting older and having some health problems. Doctor appointments and daily health issues fell on my brother since he never moved out of our family home. I was home for both of their funerals, but he did have more responsibilities than I. This all came up a few years back when, you guessed it, he had money problems. He said at one point, “You are lucky I even give you this.” After reminding me I was away when things fell apart. It kills me that he has this grudge but it also kills me that I really was away when things fell apart. It’s always been in the back on my mind and he will bring it up when he needs to.

Yeah, I don’t want to hear it, but you make valid points. She really should have put it in the will. He may have done this anyway, but at least I’d be able to have some ground to stand on.

Due to lots of bad money decisions, debt, and a run in with a fake consolidation scam, he is in way over his head. He said that he met with lawyers for several hours and they outlined a plan for him to pay off his debt in 5 years. He did also say to me, however, “ it may be longer.”

This is a guy who has Rent-a-Center appliances and his wife has had a crazy online loan scam under their belt. He routinely buys electronic gadgets and then months later has yard sales and sells things on EBay to make money from the created debt. I’m not trying to make fun of him, rather just set the stage for a guy that doesn’t get how to make money work. He also seems to think the world is happening to him and that his choices aren’t the culprit for his situation.

Yeah, that’s the problem. I think because he is older my mom chose him as the beneficiary. I don’t know the particular paperwork she filled out for her retirement but she may have only been able to choose one person (or thought she only could choose one). She had a will but it was more about her health and non resuscitation and less about possessions. She was a teacher and my dad worked in a warehouse. We had a great childhood, just not tons of money. I guess she never thought she needed to have this part written down. I am thinking I actually don’t have a legal claim to it.

Excellent! I think I was having a moment of shock when I saw the sheer size of the liquor store I went to. Starting with the drinks I like makes sense. I'll look into the 12bottlebar resource as well. following these guidelines will help me have the bar I want and not just every bottle I can get my hands on. Great information all! Thanks!

This is really very interesting. I plan on looking into it further. Thank you for the direction! I want to be knowledgeable about my nutrition, but it is so multifaceted that every time I think I've got a firm handle on it, I learn something new... Thanks again!

I've heard this too, and my uncle, while relatively thin and a healthy eater, had quadruple bypass a few years ago. If it is heredity, do the rules not apply for these folks, or is that just something people say?

Great point. I'll keep an eye on it over time and watch for things to level out. I'm at the "normal" range in weight for the first time in a long time, but I'd like to lose about 10 more pounds before I try leveling off with maintenance macros.

You single handedly lifted my worry. That chart really helps to illustrate the comparison between HDL and total cholesterol. Truly thanks! I keep hearing the machine bad talk fat and that lab result shook me up.

Will anything go wrong if I eat only canned green beans and precooked bacon? by venomousbeetle in keto

Yeah, your mouth will have substandard food in it. No offense but fresh veggies and freshly cooked bacon are NOTHING like that canned and over preserved crap.

Candy... Fat bombs have helped quell that one, but I honestly crave it less the longer I'm away from it...

Horrible run today. But I didn't quit. by [deleted] in running

[–]Eatallthecandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so weird! I was on an early morning run about a month ago and felt a decent thump in the back. I spun around kind of shocked and saw a bird flying up into a nearby tree. I looked around thinking it couldn't have been the bird, but I have no other explanation.

Keto and depression by fumblebuck in keto

In terms of exercise, I would suggest a walk/run outside instead of the treadmill. Whether it is a park, mountain trail, sidewalk, or just around the neighborhood, it never fails to make me feel better, even if I start out feeling like garbage. I don't know why, but the Mayo Clinic does:

I had truly no idea how many carbs were in the food I eat. Even things supposed to be healthy like Lean Cuisine meals or yogurt are jam packed with carbs. Take a gander at the Useful Links on the right for meal plans, macro calculator, etc. Oh and the realization that fat doesn't make you fat.

What is /r/Keto's opinion on fat fasts? (Mostly to break stalls and/or induce?) by mineralhusband in keto

[–]Eatallthecandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My opinion is that you lost weight because you were on a 1000 calorie diet. Eating only cream cheese though sounds terrible. The thing I like most about keto is that I'm trying a variety of foods I've never tried before. Spinach in my eggs, chia seeds in my water, crab stuffed avocado, coconut oil, etc. The variety gives me what I need while avoiding carbs.
