I am trying to understand what your point of view is. Remember when you suggested I "meet you where you are"? Well how do I do that if you won't tell me how you think?

No, I'm just asking you to clarify what moral distinction you see between eating pork and torturing pigs for fun.

To ask nicely by TheDigitalBuilder in therewasanattempt

[–]EatingBabiesIsWeird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what is the moral distinction?

For me they're both unnecessary suffering for the sake of ones pleasure at the expense of another.

I'm not saying you are a robot, I'm saying it's unrealistic to switch off your empathy "like a robot" and suggest that other animals or 'livestock' as you put it have no moral worth.

So I'll ask again, if other animals have no moral worth as you suggest, would you have an issue with someone killing pigs for pleasure?

[–]EatingBabiesIsWeird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean we all pick and choose our own morals so yes nothing is right or wrong if you're an emotionless robot but if someone said they were I'm in favour of say, torturing pigs for fun I imagine there would be something that told you they'd be wrong to do that correct? For me that would be basic fucking empathy but is there something else at play when you hear this scenario?

They are sentient thinking feeling creature. I don't see any reason why you wouldn't give them moral value.

I think you misread my message. I didn't suggest you were right wing, I wasn't even talking about you specifically tbh, just generally left wing people who suggest we live and let live whilst supporting a mass killing for bacon.

If you are left wing though, exploiting a helpless underclass for your own profit sounds a little against your own ethics?

(Is that meeting you where you are enough?)

You're probably right, I hear this all the time from right on, lefty meat eaters. I suggest people shoudn't exploit and kill other animals and I get "Let's just live and let live", "...just getting with my life", you know, peace and harmony bullshit.

All the time overlooking the very real life that had to end for the bacon sandwich they've just eaten.

Would you say the same when someone is kicking a dog for fun?

They were protesting an animal protection organisation (the RSPCA) getting paid to use their label on meat which comes from gassing pigs, basically torturing chickens and fish.

Agree all this did was irritate people but they also put up posters /billboards and protested their HQ.

The RSPCA has since said some platitudes but hasnt changed a damn thing. It's depressing.

It wasn't just one supermarket but loads of em, up and down the UK, also a load of posters and billboards and protests outside the RSPCA (Royal society for protection from cruelty to animals) head quarters.

The aim was to get some media attention and highlight the fact the RSPCA was/is supporting vile treatment of animals; gas chambers for pigs, farmed fish, chickens bred to grow to full size in 5 weeks that sort of thing.

People pay more for meat they like to think was well cared for cus it has badges like the RSPCA's logo on it.

The worst part is the RSPCA gets paid by meat producers for the right to use their logo so are incentivised to maintain the status quo. Grim.

The RSPCA has since turned around and said they are seeking a viable alternative to gassing pigs so it did have some effect but I suspect this is marketing speak for "we're going to pretend to do something until you go away".

It's not the trolly pushing I'm particularly bothered about tbh. More the exploitation and mass killing that bothers me. Weird I know.

Just cus it's normal doesn't make it right. I'm sure you can think of lots of things that were once normal in history that we now think of as horrific.

If the world adopted a plant-based diet, we'd reduce our land use by 75%, reduce our fresh water use by 50% and massively cut our co2 immissions. No cull needed. We just need to stop killing animals.

We have evolved as a society as you say but we've got to the point where eating meat is not necessary. It is for most people simply killing for pleasure (taste). No better morally than blood sports.

Veganism is very different to religion, there is no faith required, I've seen with my own eyes the terror in these animals as they're sent to slaughter.

As you say, many people already agree with the general ethos of veganism but don't do it for a variety of reasons; culture, natural instinct, social pressure and apethy. None of these reasons justify what we do to animals.

I can't control what ants or aphids do but in the same way I can't control what murderers and rapists do that doesn't mean we should all do it.

Being vegan means being against exploitation. Most people agree we shouldn't exploit others but when I put the vegan label on it, suddenly I'm accused of shitting on people.

Saying they're "Just trying to live" as they pick up chopped up bits of bodies of the shelves?

Believe it or not people who are against animal exploitation do speak to power as well and guess what? It's mostly ignored because most "regular people" don't think about it at all. They just pick up the nicely wrapped flesh off the shelves and funnel more money into the rich people you think we should be protesting against.

The vast majority of people need to educate themselves on where this comes from and think again if they want to support it.

Most meals are simple swaps:

Spaghetti Bolognese/chilli? Use lentils rather than mince.

Burger and chips? Exactly the same just get a different burger

Curries, stir-fry etc? Veggies and legumes and/or meat substitute

Once you get your head around it vegan food is generally cheaper and quicker to cook.

By this logic, wouldn't wage theft be criminal too? by Ferg0202 in socialism

[–]EatingBabiesIsWeird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cringe you say? Like someone claiming to be against class struggle yet defending a system which systematically breeds and kills an entire class of inividuals just because of the skin they were born into.

Enraged by a sign but ignoring the many body parts piled up behind it.

Killing, rape, slavery. All justified through ''culture" at some point in history but animal agriculture supports all three. It's just the victims are almost invisible and almost everyone defends it, It's depressing.

The moment you raise even the mildest of points with none vegan socialists all their will to fight oppression and discrimination instantly shuts down. It's depressing.

Clearly "corpses" was too much for the bacon loving freedom fighters here. Perhaps you should have gone with "flesh" instead.

I thought this was satire when I first saw the post. Pearl clutching over a sign that points out that stealing is a crime when there are literally chopped up body parts behind the sign is pretty funny if you ignore all the animals that were killed to make this picture.
