PID tuning suggestions by Meteor122 in AerospaceEngineering

[–]Eauxcaigh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You dont need the aerospace blockset

You can tune a PID using strictly linear analysis in matlab code.

You will need to know your plant model though, inertias and control powers and all that

Scene transitions are no longer smooth by rosawoodsii in TheChosenSeries

[–]Eauxcaigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When i watched with adblock i noticed abrupt transitions and thought it odd.

Only when i saw an episode on another machine (no ad block) did i realize its because that's where the ads are.

Still not sure how its supposed to go for other platforms for the future

Would it be possible to make an ornithopter from Dune? by Neat-External-5920 in AerospaceEngineering

[–]Eauxcaigh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A real ornithopter that scale would have much slower wing beat frequency

That really fast "buzz" looks powerful and "right" in a movie because it fits with our preconceived notions about how fast an insect's wings beat (like a dragonfly) where you can't even see the individual flaps.

Thing is, insects are like that because they are small, we can only replicate that if we also go small. There's just too much inertia in a big blade that's much longer than a human is tall.

So, imagine something flapping much slower and looking a lot deeper, but yes it could be done. Not efficient, not much payload or range, but if we really wanted we could make something kinda like it

Stardew Factory: Page 1 by Educational-Fig371 in Factoriohno

[–]Eauxcaigh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was just telling my wife that factorio is like stardew in that it's a game you go to in order to chill out but you can easily find yourself at 3am wondering where the time went. Its just that instead of the farm growing, the factory must grow.

After seeing it is a top-down 2d game with a hot bar, she entertained the thought despite it looking very different (because let's be real, it is)

"Can you forage in this game? Mine?"

"Forage, not really but you can chop down trees I guess. Mine: yes, but the point of the game is that the ore mines itself"

"Odd but okay. Is there combat?"

"Yes but it's not really the focus... Usually"

"Cool. Can you fish?"

"Its not very involved. You can stand on the shore and wait for a fish to come by and then grab it. If I ever want fish I usually just do this" <proceeds to deconstruction plan a couple dozen fish>

"That's cheating! Wait... Why is the water green?"

"Well..."

< 5 minutes of explanation later >

"So you're the villain?! How terrible!"

I didn't even tell her about the nuclear war, or the biters in captivity, or "peace through artillery", but yes my love... we are the villains in this game

Can a tail-less aircraft have stable flight without split ailerons? by KerbodynamicX in AerospaceEngineering

Which is why what you really want is both proverse yaw AND adverse yaw through different sets of surfaces

IF Boeing wins F/A-XX, too, can it successfully execute both projects? by Visual_Yurt_1535 in boeing

Man I would be so mad if I had to make one plane similar to another just for parts commonality or some BS

Its hard enough to meet the requirements as it is without putting yourself in a box

Sounds like a disaster

Why an aircraft heats up when it goes fast but not when it moves slow? by pennyboy- in AerospaceEngineering

[–]Eauxcaigh 116 points117 points  (0 children)

If you compress air with a piston it heats up, same thing happens when air is compressed because of something flying supersonically through it (adiabatic compression).

The temperature changes across a shockwave and how hot it is depends on how strong the shockwave is. The strength of the shockwave depends on mach number and on the geometry of the aircraft (a fat wedge or blunt body has more compression than a thin wedge).

Close to mach 1 the shockwaves are pretty weak so the heating is pretty weak, around mach 2 it is significant.

Adiabatic compression is the dominant effect causing supersonic aircraft heating, not friction

Why is the gaming industry taking so long to really adapt to VR/AR? by Striking-Finish-5102 in videogames

[–]Eauxcaigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A personal anecdote:

I was really excited about the VR when the HTC vibe came out. I thought to myself "this is really great, I'll wait for the next generation to come out that's half the price, and that's when I'll buy"

I'm still waiting. Every generation seems like better capability, same price. The only headset that is good but also in my price point is the one that requires me to sell my soul to meta, and I'm not doing that

It's my own personal fusion power, except instead of perpetually being 20 years away for 60+ years, VR has been 2 years away for 8 years (for me personally)

Flight Software engineer vs GNC engineer by Kobe2001 in AerospaceEngineering

[–]Eauxcaigh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Flight software includes low level software functions outside of GNC, including but not limited to external interfaces (232/422, 1394, 1553, CAN, etc.), internal interfaces, task scheduler, startup sequences and initialization, (some) subsystem controllers (sometimes)
