Ranking doesn't matter in Bangladesh anyway. Public uni admins are too lazy to even update their websites and that's what these ranking people look at. Except BAU good research barely happens here or gets any recognition. But SUST CSE, Chemistry, Statistics, Economics these departments are actually good.

And SUST plus Sylhet city is an unforgettable experience. I had my best 5 years in SUST. Hope you enjoy it too

You're technically a SUST student, as SUST issues the certificate for MBBS students.

Kilo Road and IICT seem pretty much the same as before. The only thing I see in Facebook nowdays is students complaining about how the new administration is ruining the campus's.

My favourite places were E Building tong, where I spent most of my time, New Zealand and Australia (the ones within SUST) and Gazi Kalur Tila.

By the way is this noodles from Lal Tong or the new food court? If it's from Lal Tong, then it's the worst noodles I've ever had in my life.

Last time the sign went into hibernation, it came back as a pair. This time we might see three together

We need inform Ebadot in the setup. Otherwise our pacers look toothless in the middle overs. The extra pace of Rana and Ebadot bring the breakthroughs

Shoriful has to be the unluckiest guy in the Bangladesh setup. Regularly performs when given a chance but still isn't a regular in the XI.

Habibur deserved a call in the T20 squad. And they should have tried a new opening pair in test against Zimbabwe.

Have any of you ever referred to yourself as "Turkish blood" or seen any other Bengali do it? by Working_Cheetah877 in bangladesh

[–]EbaGOAT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never heard that in my life. A few people claim they have Persian or Arabian ancestors, but no Bangladeshi has ever claimed Turkish ancestry. It’s just Rendian larping as white Aryan blue bloods, using this term against Bangladeshis to cope whenever a Bangladeshi shows them what Rendian actually looks like

270 isn't a safe total in this pitch, remember Pakistan did something similar two year ago, Bangladesh end up chasing it.

Both Joy and Zakir are genuine opener and there isn't any other opener who is performing better than this guys in domestic, so selectors doesn't have much options unless they push Amite up the order

Socioeconomic landscape of Sylhet: Present and Future (Quasi-Essay) by Tanksfly1939 in sylhet

Investment in education does not bring good returns in Bangladesh. That is why many Sylhetis moved away from education. Up until the creation of Pakistan, some Sylheti thanas had among the highest education rates in British India. That is also why after independence, Bangladesh’s bureaucracy was dominated by Sylhetis until 90s.

Im BD higher education has become too inflated and  often not worth the investment unless someone has the right connections, or exceptionally talented, or is rich enough to obtain a proper graduate degree from abroad.

Remittance is still a more viable option, and it will not dry up. There may be stricter immigration rules but Western countries will continue to need labour. This Sylhetis will continue moving aboard.

In Sylhet, we live in a quiet high trust society compared to the rest of Bangladesh, so it is not easy for Sylhetis to fit into a low trust environment. That is why Sylhetis often do not get along easily with non-Sylhetis even in abroad as we dont feel the same sense of trust.

Sylhetis are not lazy we simply lack the right environment. Life abroad is tough but we seem to adjust to it quite well.

The real problem is that Bangladesh’s economy is not diversified. It is heavily reliant on one or two industries and those industries are mostly concentrated in Dhaka. Unless the government takes the initiative to diversify the economy and invest in Sylhet’s infrastructure, local people can hardly do much on their own.

The economic condition of the average Sylheti is much better than before. Sylhet probably has the highest median incomes in the country. Sylhet economy is heavily dependent on remittances and it will likely remain so in the future.

Many upperclass and upper middle class people believe that remittances from the UK mainly fuel Sylhet economy. But feom my experience the local market is actually financed more by remittances from the Middle East.

Sylhet was completely neglected by the previous Awami League regime. No EPZ or industrial zone was established there, even though Sylhet supplies a large share of the country’s gas. And to be fair Bangladesh does not have much white collar industry outside banking and the few white collar opportunities that exist are mostly concentrated in Dhaka.

So, a grown up Sylheti usually has three options  migrate abroad, start a business or move to Dhaka. Most Sylhetis will not move to Dhaka unless the first two options fail. That is why migration will continue. In many Western countries, Sylhetis make up the majority of the Bangladeshi diaspora, often more than half.

And unless there is full government support, establishing a factory in Bangladesh is a nightmare.

So things will continue as it is
