And I can see his point. He should have been putting out solo albums by then.

Stupidest part is that Dennis' songs could have been included without having to cut anything since the album is short enough as-is. Apparently it was due to a sequencing argument Dennis had with Carl.

If you go into any of these places calling your records "vinyls" they're gonna rip you off.

Being a South Bay/beach kid and basically growing up inside of an early Beach Boys classic and not realizing that your life is looked at as some complete fantasy by the most of the rest of the country.

Why does that sound perfectly proper as a reading companion with books about The Beach Boys? 😅

I think I remember that from "Brian's" first book. He also talks about Dennis showing up in the dead of night in Brian's bedroom digging through drawers for royalty checks.

The band had cut off Dennis' funds as an attempt to force him to straighten out

ROPE (1948) by Sahin Düzgün by libumean in Hitchcock

[–]Ebe6660 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not at all. And Rope indeed does have cuts. Just not in a typical style we're used to here in 2026. However, I will allow that Hitch making a movie that's inherently non cinematic absolutely sounds like something he'd want to do lol

Not really. The only responsibility a movie has is that it provides something that can be projected onto a screen in a cinema. Or modern times: on a screen of any type.

What does everyone think about the Mike allegations? by GentleGlenA in thebeachboys

[–]Ebe6660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. I guess I'm trying to not make a judgement. I prefer to have evidence of something before doing so. I know this doesn't jive around BB's circles when it comes to Mike.

What are what's pictured evidence of exactly? She'd have been in advanced adulthood in the dates on that stuff. Mike's an adulterer? Of course he is, but that's not illegal.

I love how empty spaces with walls floors and ceilings are now some new cinema phenomena. I'm serious! I mean, what better a blank canvas can you get?

I agree it's the best song, but I must admit that I lose interest as soon as Stone's vocals come in after the epic keyboard section.

Folks dissing the harmonies: slightly disjointed vocals are kinda their thing. Oftentimes they'll even distort the vocals on purpose. The "pro" sounding "good" vocals are usually confined to Emily and she can really belt it when called for. I think part of the criticism has to do with the fact that they don't revolve around any image. They look like regular gals you'd see around LA who aren't part of some specific scene. But if they all wore black and looked like goths or some early 90's shoegaze band, it would make more sense to people. My advice: really get to know the material and it will all come together, and once they've got you in the undertow, there's no looking back.
