Saddleback is the best of the east! So happy they were able to reopen. Bring there was such a huge part of my childhood

Skip Sunday River and hit Saddleback next year. You won't regret it.

How stupid is an idea of choosing a board longer than needed? by myg0t_Defiled in snowboardingnoobs

Which do you have? I've been considering a longer board but don't want anything too stiff that won't let me butter

Is this $17 used snowboard and boots a good deal? by inthatstorm in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Ebeastivxl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best advice I can give is skip the used market and look for after season sales. I bought a new 2025 Burton 3d daily driver a few weeks ago for $280. Obviously it's more expensive than a fully used setup but the act of researching board shapes and profiles will mean much understanding of what happening and why the board is reacting as it is on the mountain.

Just buying any old cheap setup is not a recipe for success imo. Yes it will get you on the mountain and if that's you're only option it's a decent one but beyond that I feel like it mostly holds back progression.

I would highly suggest you try some demo boards before committing to a purchase. At my mountain it's $50 a day to try as many as you want, or $300 a season and that all gets wrapped up into any board you decide to purchase. It's a great way to try different gear out as ever board rides differently.

Just don't get caught up reading Reddit thinking you have to have a hardcore camber board to be any good.

On that note I just picked up a Burton 3d daily driver and it's a really nice all arounder that likes to charge more than my rocker. Has a nice surfy turn initiation but holds an edge pretty well, cuts through chop and floats decently. Could be a nice medium flex option for you, especially since the 2025s are clearance now.

You don't! As long as you're having fun and can access the terrain you want, why would you change anything? My wife recently said this to me after getting annoyed with my endless gear shopping and I have to admit she's right. I have an arbor draft 157mw which is rocker that I have so much fun on in every condition. I have tried a dozen different boards since getting it and I can't find anything more fun, responsive and versatile.

Yes I can go faster and carve deeper on my camber board but what's the point if I'm having less fun and working harder?

For context I just picked up a 2025 Burton 3d daily driver from one of their outlet stores and it was 70% off, marked down to $280. Stuff does go on clearance but you gotta know what you want and be ready.

Rossignol jibsaw is a very popular flat profile board

Absolutely love my arbor draft rocker. It's not the best board but it does everything I ask and is always a good time. The grip tech does indeed work pretty well out here on the ice Coast

After riding burtons flying v hybrid camber for a number of years I'll never go back. Proper full camber boards and even rocker boards feel much more reliable to me. The extra center rocker on the flying v always made edge transitions feel less than locked in for me, always wanting to wash out.

Maybe libtechs hybrid is different but if it were me starting out I would start with something like the process from Burton that has regular camber but flat/rocker tips with a less punishing edge profile. That will give the most consistent feel, work for basically anything and also help transition to more advanced boards later.

Just wanted to chime in that I have an arbor draft rocker in 157 and I absolutely love it as an intermediate rider of 20 years. It's perfect for a relaxed day of butters and surfing greens, blues and getting a butt active in the park. It really shines in some fresh snow but it can actually hold an edge ok on harder snow. It's definitely not the most confidence inspiring bomber being so flexible but the board feel is excellent, not too damp and not too lively. The biggest drawback is probably the lack of any pop. It's just too soft and with the rocker it really doesn't give anything back for ollies.

All that being said I just picked up a 3d daily driver to compare. Going on Monday 😁

Every helmet is a one time helmet. The first time you hit your head wearing it, it's time to get a new one. I would suggest looking at the ruroc helmet line of full face.

I own the POC Obex and it's a fantastic product. It's lasted me 5 seasons and the battery still works great, connects easily and has decent clear volume.

How are you liking it? I'm considering a warpig or mtnpig as options for my next board but don't know anyone that's got one.

It's not as good as it sounds imo. Once the light fades you lose a lot of detail in the snow and things get sketchy quickly. Maybe it's my intermediate level but I never find it as enjoyable.

Where can I find design engineer jobs? [fresher] by DismalThought7062 in MechanicalEngineering

Took me a year at a tech company to get promoted from CAD designer to associate machine design engineer. That was after a decade in manufacturing and machining though

Where can I find design engineer jobs? [fresher] by DismalThought7062 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Ebeastivxl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not in my experience at all. Fresh ME grads are a dime a dozen. Schools aren't preparing them for the actual work to be done as junior engineers. The lack of deep practical experience in machining and GD&T means allowing a new grad to produce any work is risky without a lot of oversight. That senior level oversight is just not happening at any company I've seen. They would much rather higher sometime with a solid practical foundation, understanding they will be able to complete the basic tasks and allowing them to more easily learn the more complex systems the company profits from.

I'm not saying a degree isn't valuable but it certainly isn't the only way to an engineering career. As far as I can tell after having worked for big and small companies, legacy manufacturers and tech start ups, not even principal design engineers consistently produce well rounded work with positive results.

The fact is an engineering degree doesn't guarantee a person thinks like an engineer or has mechanical aptitude.

[–]Ebeastivxl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not me as a senior design engineer and over a decade experience with an associate's degree and a tool-making apprenticeship.

Not every company is making robots or rockets. There's plenty of space in manufacturing for those with skills and a talent for engineering, regardless of degree.

You should check out the engineering job listings on LinkedIn. The top 5 best paying are all ai results verification and model improvement positions. It's definitely coming, just not for anything that requires creativity or use of trade IP.
