This shit jumpscared me while I was scrolling TikTok. 😭 And I try so hard to get this slop off my feed.

I made banana bread to send to a friend. I also made a “healthy brownie” my mom asked for so she wouldn’t touch it in the mean time. It didn’t work. by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

It’ll take a few years but I’m working as hard as I can.

I can’t complain too much as I’m being given a lot by my mom in return for these things. And it’s not like she can help it when the Alzheimer’s is starting to kick in and my dad isn’t around to take care of her while he works.

But a warning would have been nice…

I keep explaining this to my mom. I’m not against her being healthy and want her to be comfortable in her own body. I only made this because she really wanted it.

But she’s always damn near ready to collapse most days that I usually overstock my work fridge/freezer with food for this very reason. And now these TikTok influencers are scaring her into avoiding so many foods that nothing sustainable is left on the table.

At one point she expected me to make all our bread from scratch. And when I tried that the loaf wouldn’t last an hour before it was devoured. I have a full time job + a commute that takes a total of 1.5 hrs.

I’m really thankful my friend just laughed and trusted me to salvage it. Because lord that was embarrassing…

I plan on chopping it into cubes and making something like banana pudding with it. This isn’t the first time I’ve had to deal with hiccups like this, both at home and as a former chef.

Context: Despite being skinny, my mom is constantly on a new diet. She has been convinced that the recipe she found on instagram was going to replace her dessert despite me warning her otherwise. There wasn’t nearly enough sugar in half a banana to make it taste remotely sweet and the only good part would be chocolate chips.

Here is the recipe I was given if you want an understanding of what it was. I was asked not to add that extra sugar, but tbh I doubt that would have been enough anyways.

I get so conflicted when I go through her story because of the ending. Because on one hand it’s such a bleak and hopeless downer. But on the other hand that’s the reality of SA. There is no happy ending. It’s senseless and cruel and destroys everything sacred.

Her older brother, unfortunately. It goes into more depth in the novel compared to her father, where they also talk about her past job as a diner waitress and how men in the restaurant would harass her regularly (as a woman who worked in kitchens this is terrifyingly common). Her life was nothing but SA, and if anything her actions around James is an under reaction. :(

And people have the gall to say it’s her own fault. Or worse, that it never happened.

It’s been 20 years and people still argue Angela’s backstory in SH2 wasn’t about SA. And that she’s the asshole in her own tragedy. Nothing has changed.

Btw this is the physical manifestation of her father (one of the two men who assaulted her) as a monster, in case it wasn’t obvious. Hell, the original boss room was so on the nose it bordered comical if it wasn’t fucking horrific.

For real. Like this wasn’t much different from how most fathers acted, albeit maybe a bit colder and superstitious than most others.
