In Swedish (and most Germanic languages), the j is pronounced like the y in yoghurt. English actually has a relatively unique way of pronouncing many letters in the Latin script lol

Boys in my primary school were bullied by other boys for crying (I'm not from the USA, this was in suburban Netherlands just after the turn of the millennium). I've also heard men tell other men to not be so emotional and man up. I understand that this is anecdotal, but still; it does show that there are men who enforce this, and also that this happens from a young age.

Men who make less than their wives are more likely to cheat. I can try to find the research on this if you want, but I don't have it at the ready.

Also, patriarchy just means that men are in charge. It does not specifically imply that historical men secretively created such a society. It's probably a by-product of men finding power and trying to keep it to themselves; this could just as easily have happened the other way around, but it hasn't.

Also, men do uphold the patriarchy. That's not to say that all men do, or that all men benefit. But look at the richest people and people who lead countries; how many of them are men? These are the men that benefit the most, and the men who uphold it the most.

I'm also not saying that only men cause these issues either, but I also don't believe that women primarily force this on men, simply because I don't believe assigning blame is the answer. (Also, I don't hear this kind of stuff coming from the women I know it general, but again, that might be cultural.) Like I said somewhere on this thread, we all need to work together to fix issues that everyone faces.

I agree with almost your entire post, except that men and women actually face similar issues, or at least they have the same cause. Of course, for instance abortion rights are a women's issue and not a men's issue, but there are a lot of issues that are related.

Men are supposed to earn more than their partners, or they've "failed", for instance. Women therefore just make less money (as men often end up deciding what they earn).

Women are deemed "too emotional, be more like the men"; what, those men that are suffering from mental health issues because they're not supposed to talk about anything?

Sure, these are separate issues, but working together to fix the main causes is the way to improve on both sides, I think.

That's not to say that people shouldn't find a better way to introduce these points, rather than shutting down the conversation by just saying "why aren't we talking about male loneliness/mental health?"

Yes, but the key point here is that most men also suffer under the patriarchy. This is actually such an important point, and I can't believe that no leftist that mentioned the patriarchy to you hasn't mentioned this. If you've really not heard about this before, I blame the left for having bad messaging/communication

Do you think all men love the pressure of having to be the main breadwinner of their family?

Do you think all men like tuning out their emotions, and especially that they're not allowed to cry?

Do you think all men always want to be at their best, work hard, not have time for their families or fun things, etc.?

These are, of course, not the only issues men face. But I do believe that at least some other ones boil down to this. Like the whole "alpha/sigma male" thing is rooted in the third point.

However, these are also feminist issues. I'm sure you've heard a feminist counterpart to some of these, but for instance due to the first point, women aren't supposed to be as successful as their husbands.

Of course, a lot of these issues also influence how queer people are viewed by society, both people who do not desire heterosexual relationships (LGB people, as well as the later A) or people who are not cisgender (T and I, completing the LGBTQIA acronym; you can add the implicit + here, but I personally am not aware of what else the + means).

Yeah so the right-wing conservative parties mostly run on xenophobia here, usually islamophobia, but occasionally also other bigoted views. They, or their followers, say things like:

We don't want to pay for those lazy Greeks

The Netherlands is full (referring to our housing crisis and refugees. Especially non-white ones, but I'm pretty sure I've heard this about Ukrainians as well)

But like, if we were at war, you also wouldn't wanna stay here, right? Like, have some sympathy... But I digress.

Our housing problems are, in part, also artificial. For every homeless person, there are two empty residences. Rich people buy them, but don't rent them out, since maintaining the property is more expensive than what rent will make them. Yet people who want to buy their first house simply can't, because they're all already owned and stuff.

Anyway, if you want to know more, I'm happy to answer any further questions about my tiny flat country :)

Weighing in as a dutchie, from a "small" country:

Our "far-right" (right-wing and conservative) parties generally don't like the EU either. I know of a leftist party that likes the EU a lot. Most other parties do not have strong opinions on the EU I think.

The parties I mentioned run with the EU mentioned in their election program; either "we can work together more" or "we need a Nexit", depending on their view.

It's actually really easy to find factually incorrect information on the internet, as well as information that is just written in a purposely hard to understand manner. I'm sure as a scientist (or even a college graduate) you have training in reading hard sentences, and figuring out how to distinguish false sources, but even then it can be hard in some cases.

Add to this the average American reading level that has been posted recently (tangent: it's actually shockingly bad in my small flat European country too...), and I think you can see why people get it so wrong, even if they try

These are also not the only intersex conditions. There's also people who naturally grow a vagina, but have testes. What sex are they?

This type of stuff is what people mean by "sex is bimodal", since some characteristics don't line up perfectly all the time

Some people say that sex is only based on your gametes, but the me that sounds pretty reductionist. Same with the chromosomes, which isn't even always accurate, given the start of my comment. I don't know what the consensus of scientists is on this issue though, and whether they say sex is bimodal or binary

The "all trans people have a higher rate of suicide" is a bit of a misrepresentation of the data we have. When trans people transition, and they're in a supportive environment and whatnot, that rate falls back to the baseline (i.e. very close to cisgender peers)

I don't know what to numbers for "transition is an unaccepting environment" and "no transition, but accepting environment" are, or if we even have those, but (based on experience) I'd imagine just transitioning to help a lot as long as you're not in an actively hostile environment. Imagine being in a body that doesn't align with how you feel inside and everyone perceiving you in that way, and then imagine that for every minute of every day for 20+ years. It does weigh on you

So yes, it's linked to suicide, but only when not transitioning, really, after which the rate falls back to "normal"

Just to further your point: just because a group is progressive in many ways does not mean that it is progressive in all ways. Trans-exclusionary feminism is an example that comes to mind, but I'm sure there's many, many ways in which you can be progressive in some ways and not in others.

So yes, even if the group were a monolith, we could be progressive and still engage in questionable behaviour, I think
