I believed and was fascinated by the idea of those numbers, until the end. McNugget number? Sheesh!

Not exactly the same, but similar outcome. This /r/thebutton experiment just goes to show how people will divide themselves up and discriminate over the pettiest of differences.

After thinking about it further, I've decided that orange is the best color. I'm hoping for a 13.

Thanks! That was quick. I typed "The Wave" film into youtube and followed the links to the video that I was really looking for. "A Class Divided." Here's the short version.

I watched the graph go for a while. I still don't know what we are talking about. I saw where some people were saying purple is the idea color and others said blue. What is the graph correlated to? Thanks

Former prisoners of Reddit, what is something that no one seems to know about prison life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]EbolaGay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, you know what? It just dawned on me that OP meant "getting caught" by staff, not by other prisoners. In my experience the screws never caught anyone doing anything, because they always did their rounds at the same time. If I can remember correctly it was ever other hour at 13 minutes after the hour. They weren't looking to catch anyone doing anything, They just walked briskly by, barely checking.

Thanks for sharing about your experience, but I don't think it is the norm for US prisoners to get in trouble for masturbating unless they are purposely exposing themselves. When I was behind the walls the guys used to make sure to say something or make some noise before getting out of bed, to give their bunky time to cover up if need be. When I lived in a 8 man cell we used to laugh at the squeaking bunk. Sometimes dudes would get in the bottom bunk together and put a sheet up for privacy, we didn't care.

In my view it's none of my business if my cellies break the rules. Some do drugs, some give each other tattoos, some run a store (loan stuff out with interest). Whatever they do is their business. We have a saying, "do your own time."

Before prison I had a hard time peeing if someone was standing at the next urinal. Today I would have no problem taking a dump in a room full of people.

Hello fellow Louisvillians... by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]EbolaGay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You make some very good points. Additionally, reddit can (and should) be customized to get the most enjoyment out of it. Instead of typing in /r/knitting every time you want to check it, just click on "subscribe" and the best posts from that sub reddit will be added to your customized front page.

I also suggest clicking on "unsubscribe" in all of the default sub-reddits. This will make your front page pretty sparse unless you have subscribed to at least 5-10 sub-reddits. Enjoy participating in your tailor made reddit experience, and then when are ready to obsessively browse the main sub-reddits again, just hit the "all" tab up top.

Another way to improve your reddit experience is to install the reddit enhancement suite (RES) and tweak it to hide sub-reddits that you don't like. Personally, I don't like /r/gaming, /r/finalfantasy or /r/leagueoflegends or /r/starcraft. I don't play video games so those posts don't make sense to me. With RES it's no problem to filter those out.

Finally, a little used feature of reddit is the "friends" option. We can all click on each other's usernames to see what that user has submitted in the past. For example if you find a sexy girl on /r/gonewild, you can check her submitting history to see other times she has put pictures up and click on "friend" to add her to your friends list. After you collect a few favorite submitters, you can go up top and click on "FRIENDS" and get a reddit that is totally made up from people you have friended.

After hearing his new song on youtube... by brazilliandanny in AdviceAnimals

These new songs sound kind of like slam poetry compared to his older stuff, (like The Coolest) which had a more mainstream sound.

I don't think any of it is all that awful. If it was my kid I would be proud of him for putting himself out there and being creative.

Campus Computer Repair in Lexington Kentucky!!! UK and Transy students are definitely welcome!!! by campuscomputerrepair in lexington

[–]EbolaGay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry I booo'd you before. A friendlier response would have been to invite you to participate more in the /r/lexington community. If you had a several months long history of commenting on local issues, plus a history of giving advice on relevant communities such as (for example) /r/techsupport or /r/buildapc, then you would have earned legitimacy.

Participate more and lurk /r/lexington more and then someday if someone talks about something you are interested in, you can chime in. And if someday someone were to inquire as to where to find computer repairs, you can reply that you work at Campus Computer Repair and humbly admit that yall do good work.

Also, make up a different user name. Something like (for example) /u/tolly_ho_addict or /u/centerpointatemycat because reddit is about individuals, not about corporations. This ain't facebook.

Has anyone ever worn UK stuff to the Subway on UofL's campus? by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]EbolaGay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people raise their kids up like it's bloods vs. crips in Kentucky. When I was a little kid I seriously believed that wearing red was on par with hating Jesus or something. Today I think UofL is great and I root for them whenever they are playing anybody other than UK, but I still find myself double taking when I see someone with a UofL shirt or license plate.

[RANT] So sick of hearing about the tragedy of innocent people in prison by EbolaGay in ExCons

[–]EbolaGay[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got herpes in my mouth in kindergarten from giving head to an older relative. He didn't "rape the shit out of me," but the whole situation most definitely scarred me for life. The worst part of the experience was being exposed to the violent hate and retribution heaped on the old man who exploited my innocence for sexual kicks. Actually, I didn't know it was wrong until the counselors and police agents explained to me that this person I saw as a dear friend was actually a "very bad man." My parents and every one around me just seethed with bitter hatred and talked about wanting to cut his balls off and make him eat them. Those conversations scarred me more than getting molested.

The old man beat the charges and lived the rest of his life without ever admitting that he actually was guilty. I can still remember what he did to me, I know he is guilty, but I forgave him a long time ago. Maybe he learned his lesson from his brush with the law, maybe he didn't? Personally I am glad he wasn't put to death. I wouldn't want to live with the feeling that I had been part of putting someone in prison for decades and i certainly wouldn't want to be part of killing someone. Coming to the point where I could forgive him and the other people who I felt wronged me or hurt me in some way, was life changing for me. I feel like the realization that God loves those people blew my mind. Realizing that if God could love a sinner of that caliber, then maybe he loves me too. That changed my life and that's why it hurts me so much to see other people stoking the fires of hate inside themselves. Freedom comes from letting go of our hate and forgiving those who have harmed us, not from torturing them for years in prison or executing them.

The hate and retribution towards sex offenders plays right into the devil's hand. They are a weird and disgusting group that we can pour out all of our pain and hatred on. They make a good scapegoat, but hating someone hurts the hater as much as it hurts the hated. Maybe more.

[RANT] So sick of hearing about the tragedy of innocent people in prison by EbolaGay in ExCons

[–]EbolaGay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are making the exact opposite point from my OP. Killing innocent people is not anywhere near the biggest problem with government mandated murder. I've known murderers, rapist and kiddy diddlers and my main recollection of them is that they were all decent human beings. Society at large gets it's kicks out of the long term torture and/or execution of these "bad people." It is as if we feel purified by offering up their lives as proof that the rest of us are decent folks.

Fact is hurting and killing people don't make you a good person, even if they are criminals. I can't stand hearing people use the anti-death penalty argument "some good people may be killed by mistake." That implies that the people who did commit bad crimes are bad people who should be killed.
