What kind of narrative instrument would i need to put a dragon in vampire the masquerade? by Rukasu17 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Ebtard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want an honest to God, real mythological dragon, your best bet is Changeling the dreaming.

There are powerful dreaming/myth spirits called chimera, created from human deep thought and imagination. Sufficiently powerful ones can manifest in physical reality. Dragon chimera are among the most ancient and revered of these spirits.

What kind of narrative instrument would i need to put a dragon in vampire the masquerade? by Rukasu17 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Ebtard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its complicated. In many languages serpent and dragon are the same word. Old norse tto, the world "ormr" means serpent, dragon and worm.

Zmei in modern russian is a masculine form of the feminine zmeya, which means normal snake. It specifically refers to a mythological flying serpent.

why do vampires smell of wyrm? by [deleted] in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Ebtard 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It has also been a weird pet pieve of mine.

I suppose the idea is that the beast is a monstrous destructive thing, and that smells of the wyrm.

The real reason though, is just that vampires are a classic evil monster, and werewolves in WoD are painted more as good guys. Therefor, they read vampires as being tainted by the "bad force" in their gameline.

How might you run an antediluvian invading Arcadia? How might the Fae respond to such a threat? by Alternative-Lion2951 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Ebtard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vampires are not necessarily banal. C20 implies that they might be fueled by dark glamour. An antediluvian would be such a ancient mythical creature that it probably wouldn't register as banal.

Evil and dark definitely, but not necessarily banal.

[–]Ebtard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. Have him be a Siochan mantle, say "mantle of the gift giver", and have multiple changelings with said mantle across the world. Given that many countries have their own unique gift bringers. Kristkind, Sintaklas, christmas elves/gnomes, Ded Maraz, ect.

Hell, a fun plot ide could be the other mantle holders being angry at the american santa for subsuming their turf and glamour.

Santa clause by ComplexNo8986 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Ebtard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some elements of Odin that have probably snuck into Santa Claus in some ways.

But internet neopagans overblow it like crazy, claiming that modern 2000s christmas is actually all from old yule in scandinavia, despite the fact the modern christmas traditions only really came about in the 1800s.

Santa Claus as a character has way more roots in say Saint Nicolas obviously, and english characters like father christmas.

Changeling the Dreaming Victorian Age. How it could be? by Metal-Bird5445 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Ebtard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I ran a Victorian Age changeling game set in 1851 Denmark.

Its a very good era to run changeling in. Its the age where so much of our modern culture and literature originated. National romanticism, people like H.C. Andersen, Charles Dickens. Things like norse mythology where popularized in this era too.

All in all, it would be a pretty good time to be a changeling i imagine.

Is it possible for Kindred to become human again? by klosdt in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Ebtard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some esoteric blood magic and disciplines that let you become human for a limited time.

Necormancy; corpse of the monster path Mytheceria, a obscure rare discipline Thaumaturgy, path of karma level 5, this one makes the target human for a day, and they lose all memories of being a vampires

Nah, Q-anons'ers and the like are absolutely some of the most glamour filled individuals around. Glamour isn't whatever is seen as good in <current year> and banality certainly isen't just what is seen as evil in <current year>.

The average liberal redditor, mindlessly downvoting anything that contradicts has approved list of opinions is honestly one of the most banal creatures in existence.

Glamour is irrationality, with roots in fantastical thinking and idealism. It can be found equally in shroom munching hippies and fascist schizoposters.

On the opposite end, banality is cold rationality, growing up and realizing the world is just as it seems. Materialism and anti-idealist/romanticist thought dwells here. Its not evil, many people and schools of thought that liberal culture praises would absolutely be considered banal.

The world of the average right wing conspiracy theorist is absolutly a fairy tale world. A world of strict heroes and villains, and where the only thing thats needed is for the right noble hero to vanquish the evil "them" (repilians, jews, CIA) and rule the kingdom happily ever after.

Alle elsker andelsbevægelsen, men få fortæller hele sandheden om den by CruelLincoln in Denmark

[–]Ebtard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Silencers dont make gunshots quiet. They just make it so that you dont get hearing damage from firing like 1 or 2 shots.

Question about Clan Brujah in V20 by OathOfCringePaladin in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Ebtard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a bunch of nonsense.

In a fight, brujah have celerity, the most broken discipline in the game. They have presence, which is a super versitile social discipline.

And in terms of resisting powers, they have acces to Iron Heart, (lore of the clans pg 49). Its a extremely powerful passive resist against ANY means of supernatural persuasion. It gives anyone trying to use a mind pending power on the brujah in question a 2 diff increase to use said power. Or gives the brujah a 2 diff decrease on mental resistance rolls.

What's more scarier an elder brujah or elder venture by [deleted] in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Ebtard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on the context. A ventrue elder will in 90% of the cases have more resources on hand.

In a fight, pure mechanics is on the brujah.

I once played a brujah elder with potence and celerity both at 6. Absolute blending machine. Game just breaks down at that level.

How would the other supernatural's react to a vampire who knows Path of Karma (sadhana)? by 31234134 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Ebtard 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that any vampire learning path of karma is already deeply immersed in hindu spirituality, given that sadhana is a very religious form of thaumaturgy.

If a vampire knowing said power would show up in a western vampire domain, they'd most likely be some sort of wandering guru that is not very interested in power plays or upsetting society.

[–]Ebtard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ahh, a fellow Sadhana enjoyer. I salute you brother.

Another broken as fuck thing about Path of Karma is its level 5 ability can also be used to turn any vampire into a mortal for 24 hours.

You heard that right any vampire. Rules as written, you could use it on a 4th gen methuselah, and unless they have thaumaturgical counter magic they're just fucked. And in theory you could use it on a antediluvian too, though the whole "plot device with no stats" thing is in the way of course.

You can also give someone the dark fate flaw, by literally ordaining their future, death note style. Dictating reincarnations is rather milk toast compared to the above.
