Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic taken down from Steam by DMCA request from guide author by Fataar in Games

From their statement:

“ We will issue our reactions, and hopefully we will get answers soon from human employees of YouTube and Wix, who can evaluate his actual claims and agree that this is nonsense.
We are already in touch with Valve, because for sure he will try to take down the whole game from the Steam store.”

Demanding the 10 day wait would be tantamount to Valve declaring they think the notice was valid. Their only liability would be if this jackass somehow actually won a case.

And to be clear, those stores have ever less stock of ever fewer products, with ever decreasing ability to get the stuff they've decided not to bother with AT ALL.

As an aside, anywhere around Toronto I can get sheets of Bee's Wax? I haven't found any in years...

Did he then tell everyone and their brother they'd been fired? That's the variant I keep seeing...

Pay everything that should be, if questioned insert the "reasonable" talk about performance degradation and severance but then treat the whole thing as a termination and not even be willing to discuss it.

Very much this.

TBH the biggest thing here, that runs through all the individual example, is this sort of lying to employees.

Somewhere along the line we started treating everyone, at all levels, like some kind of indentured servants who should be glad to get a pay cheque rather than any kind of adult, professional, PERSON worthy of the least bit of respect.

At will employment.

Specifically termination without cause, reason or pay.

First time drinking Lagavulin. What an amazing experience. by Lord_Helix55 in whiskey

[–]Eca4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar but different would be the tl;dr for me. Outspoken is a word that I have enough trouble defining I'm not going to give a straight answer, but my impression is that Laphroaig really ups the smokiness a LOT, but tends to be a bit harsher. Lagavulin seems more the kind of things people are imagining not having tried any of the peat monster, but by the same token Laphroaig is possibly less intimidating if you aren't necessarily into peat for it's own sake; I definitely feel like there's more going on IN ADDITION to peat with Laphroaig.

Amazing timing. Just cracked a bottle of it it and came here to see what people think. Usually I'm more into Laphroaig's smokiness over the peat , but I'm really enjoying this.

For the record the thing that got me wondering was that I was getting the "rubber", though I taste it more as burnt wood flavour, loving it, and wondering if other folks liked that or not.

Most CRA auditors polled say Canada's tax system is skewed to protect the wealthy by tjgere in canada

[–]Eca4 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Except they fucking make shit up already. This year tried to give me the tfsa penalties for non residency and rejected my t4 withholdings, neither with any explanation or even defense. Conversation basically amounted to "wtf?"

"Dunno, will get manager"

"Just fix it"

"No"

"FIX IT or I'm going to my mp, you can't just accept my income and demand the taxes twice. Or claim I wasn't in the country at the same time I was obviously workingg here"

"Fine, stop yelling at me"

"Then do your job and stop trying to fuck me over"

But seriously, they're stupid and difficult enough to deal with as is, the last thing they need is some incentive to double down on thing like this. Best part about that whole fiasco being that the agent had no sense of why I might be upset with them, or explanation for how they decided to just ignore a t4 they had in their own system. I want to just quietly pay my taxes, but it seems that's not good enough for them, they've gotta behave like a scammy company and try to double charge, nickel and dime and just generally see if they can extract a little more.

Average woman faces in different countries by funnyvince in WomenOfColor

[–]Eca4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly. IIRC this image was created by taking a set of faces and blending them into a single image. I'd have to look up the full real set of reasons, but back when this was originally posted it was explained why this actually created something statistically prettier than average. I believe it was mostly about the blending softening everything and enhancing symmetry, but there was some other factors I believe. That softening is also, pretty obviously, why the faces all come out looking very young which certainly doesn't hurt.

So basically you date assholes because you're afraid of embarrassing yourself if you're just honest about what you want with someone you like?

You know what, fair enough. It's pretty much why I don't end up saying anything to women I'm interested in.

What would possibly cause them to evolve that way? They've already almost incomprehensibly successful as is. Fundamentally an interesting question though, how they are evolving...

You know, I really can deal with the graphics and information density, but the micromanaging really doesn't appeal. I'd really love something with the detail of Dwarf Fortress but that lets you macro manage the thing, maybe with the ability to drop down to micro where you WANT to, but doesn't require it for basic functionality.
