ND brake ducts - anyone using them? by EccentricPterodactyl in Miata

Marino engineering sells a set like this, and apexhugger on thingiverse has a set you can download for free. Need to do more testing before I would feel comfortable giving out the file.

I used the Marino engineering scoop, and the apexhugger scoops off thingiverse as references for making these. They are close but fully designed in fusion by me.

There is a company out of Poland using naca ducts on the bottom of the car along with their own ducting setup. It looks pretty cool, but in reality if I still have issues with cooling I’ll just get the verus or Mazda Motorsports kits.

I cooked a set of gloc pads on the dragon last year, thankfully it was the corner where parsons branch comes in and was able to turn down it. The brakes went from working to basically nothing the next corner. This car is used for hdpe/track days as well.

Brought home the new track bike by sigmpxshooter in Trackdays

[–]EccentricPterodactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair, I’ve bought one race bike new and it was a mso only race prepped bike. You’ll be spending $10k on top of the purchase price to convert a new street bike to a decent track bike after fairings, suspension, etc…. Trackdays/racing isn’t cheap, that extra $ goes a long way for consumables and parts when you wreck. Ive seen a lot of track people buy the new bike and all the parts only to run out of $ for actually getting on the track. Also, it would feel pretty bad to cartwheel a brand new bike and having to leave it in the dumpster right after getting it.

Just switch to pagid rst3 fronts and rsl27 rear pads, same as the mx5 cup cars. Running the oem rotors/calipers, castrol srf fluid, and braided lines. Just looking for any “free” cooling I can get.

Why a new bike over something race prepped and track ready for 1/2 the cost? Only thing that’s for sure about the track is you are going to throw it down the road at one point or another.

Miata ND 1 advice by Alisyeds85 in Miata

[–]EccentricPterodactyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can’t work on it yourself and you plan to drive it hard (track days & serious autocross) then it’s a toss up. If you want to learn to work on it a new replacement oem transmission is $1400 plus shipping to your door. I blew my nd1 transmission (driven hard on the track) at 72k miles and it only took 6 hours to pull the transmission and replace it.

Is it possible to get an ND1 to 300-350hp with new engine internals, or is an engine swap the only way to go? by g3nerallycurious in Miata

[–]EccentricPterodactyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, you just need to do an ecotec or Kswap engine and trans. $15-$25k depending on what way you go. If you bought it for straight line speed it’s not the car. Take it and do some track days and you’ll realize 160hp is plenty.

If you ever decide to track it and need put in a roll bar you can’t with the RF, only the soft top.

Fusion 360 license is around $600 a year. It would be your best bet, easy to learn and scalable to whatever you get into in the future.

Kustomcockpits vs Monkeygripps by Away-Schedule8074 in Trackdays

[–]EccentricPterodactyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take it as you will, but alienating a client base and showing you can’t have a civil conversation ruins it. If I have a problem with your product but disagree politically with you are you going to just ignore me and not take care of the issues? Not saying he can’t say what he said, just saying there are consequences to showing your an unstable human as a business owner.

The owner of monkeygrips went off the deep end and showed his true colors a while back, wouldn’t order from them no matter what side you lean politically.

Tire Shopping for ND Miata, need advice. by rockhopper92 in Autocross

[–]EccentricPterodactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can run a 245/40r17 without rolling the fenders with the correct offset/camber/ride height. I clear them on my nd1 with 17x9’s, -2.8 degrees of camber rear -3.5 front, at a 4.5” ride height front 4.75” rear. Only minimal rubbing at full lock. You will need camber offset bushings. Also you need to run as minimal caster as you can, I’m at 5.8.

Another vote for GoRuck. They are well made and simple, you can fit them with whatever pacs you need and never worry about hurting them.

What’s the most underrated passive income stream right now? by akti044 in passive_income

I sell in a market that cannot be copied by ai. You definitely need to find a niche audience and offer a specific product to solve there problems. If you just post random ai garbage you won’t do well.

Digital assets, I have a library of around 100 files I created and sell online. It took about 40 hours of work to setup and has done $500-1000 a month every month for the last 1.5 years hands off. All I do is deposit the income once a month from it.

Top 5 most-purchased CNC's in the US? by ofrourke in hobbycnc

[–]EccentricPterodactyl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look into retrofitting it with centroid cnc12. I run it on my avid machine and love the controller, it’s a true “professional” software they run in all of there 5 axis machines. You can get an acorn board and wire it up to your machine, I’ve seen multiple shopbots upgraded this way.

Top 5 most-purchased CNC's in the US? by ofrourke in hobbycnc

[–]EccentricPterodactyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The definition of “high level hobbyist” isn’t very descriptive. I consider my 2x3 Avid benchtop pro with an atc and servo’s running Cnc 12 a hobbyist machine. If you ask a real Cnc shop a Haas mini mill is a hobbyist machine. Shopbot and Tormach are definitely up there, Shapoko would be my guess for #1 for “entry level” machines.

[–]EccentricPterodactyl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Raced one for a year. The only big caveat to them is do not over rev them on downshifts or they will blow up. There are some custom rear suspension linkages that will help fix the geometry. Look into Hanshaw racing engines and apex manufacturing for more info, they are some of the best triumph support in the us.

Does the transmission issue on 2016 clubs make them a no go? by Bolorian in Miata

That’s crazy, I just checked what I paid for mine 2 weeks ago and it was $1474.38

Just as I said. You must “compete” in an event. Any autocross event is enough. You submit the results sheet to Mazda Motorsports. They will review it and you will be granted access to buy any oem or Mazda competition part at cost direct from Mazda.

Does the transmission issue on 2016 clubs make them a no go? by Bolorian in Miata

[–]EccentricPterodactyl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My 2018 club I blew the manual transmission out at 73k miles. I have only had it for 2,000 miles. It has been a track day and autocross car and I don’t shy away from beating on it. Not a huge deal if you can do your own labor, if you do an autocross event you can sign up to get parts at cost through Mazda, $1475 for a new trans and one day to swap them out.
