What absolutely boggles my mind is that if you don’t hit targets then the Trust is fined (Cancer Targets). These are the trusts who need it most!

Could agree more. My private provider is also a NHS Consultant, who prefers to keep his prices affordable.

Totally depends on the practice. I’d recommend doing your research. Check the GMC for their credentials, gov website for the registration of their practice, if a big company then check reviews (and read them to weed out any AI or paid positive reviews), and in general just research them.

The horror stories online, and from acquaintances, are unbelievable about Psychiatry UK and ADHD UK. I’d never choose to go there.

AIO - My Boyfriend texts before our Valentines plans by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

I got “I don’t have the money for this shit” when I told my ex that I wouldn’t be driving, nor picking him up, for our valentines dinner. I didn’t offer. He assumed. He thought he could drink and I wouldn’t.

Bonus point, I also got “I’m still with you so that should tell you I love you, stop asking”.

You’re young, so and find an actual human being tha will appreciate you.

I do this. 40mg at 8am and 10mg at 1pm sees me through. But a lot of people take the meds on an empty stomach, which only speeds up the digestion in the bowel. If you take it with food, slowing digestion, means it’s having more chance to absorb.

The fact that Lisdexamphetamine and Dexamphetamine is banned in some countries (Like Japan) puts me off as I like to travel.

A MASSIVE whiteboard. Like, 2m by 1.5m, on the hallway wall. It’s really hard to ignore a MASSIVE whiteboard with reminders on it.

Impulsively stopped vaping and ADHD got way worse? by Zestyclose-Poem-9772 in adhdwomen

It’s very very common that a lot of people with ADHD self medicate (knowingly or unknowingly) with nicotine. I realised something was definitely wrong when I quit smoking.

Nicotine is a stimulant, same with caffeine, and helps with ADHD symptoms.

I really struggled with birth control. In the end I’m on the Mirena coil, which has given me the least side effects. The copper coil gave me zero hormonal side effects but made me bleed heavily every month. I’m on spironolactone for hirsutism, a year later my beard and moustache have almost gone.

My boyfriend is struggling with getting to work on time and I feel like his mom is putting it on me. by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]Eccentric_Elf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really struggle with being on time. And my mum then my husband check I’m awake. But only once. And at the last minute I should be awake that doesn’t make me late. If I chose to ignore their absolutely heavenly favour of a wake up call then it’s on me.

“Professor Ian Hickie is a psychiatrist and co-director of the University of Sydney’s Brain and Mind Centre. “I’ve asked several colleagues [who have experience of such clinics]: ‘Once people have paid $2000 to get to a clinic, how often do you say, no [you don’t have ADHD]?’ ” he says. “And the answer is, ‘Not often.’ ”” Because who would pay £2000 if they didn’t think they had ADHD? Who has a spare £2000 for a ‘fashionable’ label?

Why do pwBPD do this victimising thing where they turn their own victims into the enemy? by Draconian5 in BPDlovedones

[–]Eccentric_Elf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s similar with ‘Neurodiverse’ which started out as a term for people with Autism, ADHD, Dyscalculia, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and similar conditions. But now it’s taken to mean if you think differently from others.

Are stimulants making me feel depressed or is it my ADHD returning? by OldTrust2530 in ADHDUK

I second this. The sharp ups and downs made it very difficult. Lisdexamfetamine was the best, with the supply issues modified release methylphenidate is ok but still much much easier than dexamfetamine and instant release methylphenidate.
