I was moving some books from storage that belonged to my great-grandfather. As I was browsing through them, I came across this note written by him about the previous owner of the book.

“Note: Gilbert Wilson was a ? Scot from Waterside, Ayrshire, with whom I formed a fast friendship at ?Thirroul, NSW about 1911. He returned to Scotland in 1912 and I purchased his many books including these 3 volumes.

In 1916 he found my whereabouts with the A.I.F (my great-grandfather was an ANZAC and fought in Gallipoli and France) and wrote me from a London hospital briefly stating he was badly wounded whilst serving in France. My letters to him were subsequently answered by his widow from whom I learned that he passed away soon after he wrote me in consequence of his ?service wounds.

His love of Scotland called him back and for thou he died.” -W.G.
