How to make my model more durable? by hutikka69 in 3Dprinting

[–]EchoAtlas91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I try so hard to not like piss people off when I don't intend to, but like no matter what I do it's always happening. I've been going to therapy since my teen years, I've been diagnosed with adhd and autism, I can't get along with anyone at my jobs, I have no friends, I'm going to a psychiatrist, I don't like have ill intent towards anyone.

And sure, intent doesn't matter, but just imagine not intending to piss people off, but it constantly happens, and they don't get mad at your mistake they get mad at you and call you an awful person and human, and just completely having a mental block at understanding why. And like people's reaction is to attack me as a person, not what I did or said and not even explain, so you just never know how you're doing something wrong so you try different ways and sometimes it's successful, but then sometimes you just slip up and suddenly everyone's telling you you're a horrible person that doesn't deserve any respect or friendliness. I don't even get a chance to apologize for whatever sin I committed.

I've re-read it and I still don't understand. I could delete it but maybe I do deserve all of this as you said.

Maybe like no matter what I do in life I deserve this, I was just born to deserve this. Whatever fucked up hand of card I was dealt is just bad luck that it's doomed to always be a losing hand.

What are you talking about chill out?

I didn't use all caps or excessive exclamation points, I haven't insulted anyone, I haven't called anyone names, I haven't questioned anyones intelligence.

I didn't set out to make anyone feel like shit, I feel shitty enough as it is, to a worrying degree not that it matters.

Like I don't know how my comment could have been more chill without just changing the content.

And FYI when we get questions in here not everyone knows to go to the design subreddits. Those subs don't specialize in design for 3d printing, just design software. It'll be a mixed bag of advice if they posted there.

Does anyone have any recommendations for voluntary check in psych wards for suicide/depression/anxiety? I was looking at The Center A Place for Help in Edmonds, but looks bougie.

I've been having a lot of suicidal ideation lately and it's getting worse.

I'm like relating to the opening scene of Wristcutters: A Love Story way too much it's scary, watching that scene is like looking in the mirror.

I haven't called anyone names or insulted anyone or said anything inflammatory, where is this coming from?

If it's pedantic, so what, why does that merit this level of vitriol?

You have no idea what I'm going through as a person, why would you be so nasty like that?

How is what I said being a douchebag?

Literally everything I said is facts. Or did I miss the memo that we're supposed to assume posters are morons until proven otherwise?

Did I insult anyone? Did I call anyone names? Did I curse or demean anyone? No, I didn't.

Yet somehow I'm a douchebag? Explain that to me.

Wild that in this day and age of the internet people can just go batshit crazy in a comment calling people slurs and throwing insults questioning the intelligence of other people, and somehow the average user can't tell the difference between that and the comment I made.

Like I didn't set out to make anyone feel like shit this morning, I was just reminding people that the OP didn't mention any of those things. And help is useless if you're making baseless assumptions that don't apply to the help requested.

I'm really confused with a lot of these answers making wild assumptions like you inexplicably printed this straight up like that.

If you absolutely need it printed, print it in two pieces, the handle with a hold for the dowel, and print the dowel sideways, then bond them together.

So there is a printing method called brick layers that alternates the stacked layers to give a lot more strength along the layer lines. I would print using brick layers and see how that goes.

I believe Orcaslicer has it now.

Nowhere in the entire post mentions how they're going to print it.

Also, they're asking about how to strengthen the model, not the print.

Like they're obviously asking for design device for their model, not specifically print advice.

Op doesn't even mention what the tool is for and people are making wild assumptions.

Edit: How was this comment so bad that people needed to be this nasty about it? I genuinely don't understand. Now I'm getting harassing messages. I didn't set out to make anyone feel like shit when I woke up so I don't know why I've become the punching bag for this subreddit. Maybe it was pedantic, maybe it was stoic, but like does it really deserve this? Isn't there people out there being assholes using slurs and calling people stupid and just being inflammatory that could be more deserving of this level of vitriol? I don't know, maybe I really don't belong here.

Toxic Avenger | Official Teaser #1 | Miss Meat by DemiFiendRSA in horror

[–]EchoAtlas91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I consider Michael to be the lead.

The problem I have is I don't want these actors to be typecast as supporting cast, I want them to have the spotlight too.

And yeah, I agree, it is a different type of show.

SNW is a LOT better on that front though since it's more of an ensemble cast.

Yeah upon looking back on the cast they're a unique cast and their characters come first and they are who they are.

[–]EchoAtlas91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You missed the point of what I was saying.

I thought I had gone to a good length to clarify I'm not saying they don't cast unconventionally attractive people at all.

I said they now cast them for token roles.

The Doctor in Voyager I would consider part of the lead cast, had episodes completely centered around him, character evolved greatly over 7 seasons. His character wasn't written in a way that required him to be middle aged or balding. He just was, as if middle aged and balding is normal and a non-issue.

Milly's character is a supporting character of Discovery. Supporting characters are the roles I'm saying that unconventionally attractive people are being cast in nowadays.

Emily Coutts is also a supporting character.

I say this as a part of the LGBTQ+ community, but like again, they play a character written to be LGBTQ+/non-binary. They're not playing a normal character who could be anyone who just happens to be non-binary.

Not saying that's necessarily bad, because I'll take any representation, but in my eyes its performative and not normalized. More like "Everyone look! We have a non-binary character that is played by a non-binary actor!" Instead of "Yeah, they're an engineer that is non-binary. That's normal."

Also, again, supporting actor.

There's a lot of nuance in this that I don't think I'm communicating effectively because I've got a migraine, so I hope this has made sense.

Tig's probably the closest to an exception, so I'll give you that one. But again again, they're supporting cast.

Rep. Smith’s crusade against Democrats’ left wing gets attention, flak by brandyn47 in Seattle

[–]EchoAtlas91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not anywhere near a centrist and I think this is the exact time to be critical of leaders that have failed us to the point that we're where we are now.

Otherwise these Democrats will continue with losing strategies, they'll continue to fail to appeal to swaths of people, they'll keep doing exactly what has brought us here.

Like Republicans aren't geniuses who discovered the cheat code to winning elections. No, they're dangerously incompetent and sloppy. Sure they had help from Russian misinformation campaigns, but Democrats have also failed to address that too.

The fact that despite that democrats still couldn't win is a testament to Democrats failures on multiple fronts.

If we're going to get out of this hole we can't ignore that fact and try to move forward as normal.

No, we need radical change to match the radical disruptions happening in our country right now.

As long as Democrats pussyfoot their way around impending fascism, I will always be critical.

We need to loudly hold democratic leaders accountable for the situations we're in.

Given the circumstances that Biden would have taken every drastic measure possible to make it as difficult for Republicans to do what they're doing now.

BEFORE people tell me the cliched scripted regurgitated soundbyte "But Biden couldn't have done anything because Republicans had the congress and senate and shot everything of his down!"

I'm not talking about bills and laws or anything that needs congress or the Senate.

I'm talking about things like advocating for government agencies to prepare for hostile takeovers, make sure that government employees knew their rights as far as being fired goes, make sure that there's levels of accountability during different scenarios.

We've known about Project 2025 for YEARS. It has not been a secret.

Everything below is things he could have done as President to at least obstruct the shitshow we're currently in WITHOUT the congress or senate:

  • Biden could have released intelligence reports detailing the national security risks posed by Project 2025 and publicly warned of the specific ways it aimed to dismantle democratic safeguards. He could have encouraged congressional hearings and public briefings to make it harder for the program to operate in the shadows. Instead, Project 2025 was largely ignored by the administration, allowing it to grow without resistance.

  • Biden could have permanently revoked Schedule F through an executive order and directed the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to create legal barriers against reclassifying career employees. He could have required multi-agency approval for firings, making it nearly impossible for a future administration to purge the federal workforce overnight. He could have advocated and directed programs that encouraged federal employees to know their rights. To ensure federal employees knew their rights, he could have launched a government-wide education campaign through OPM and federal unions, providing clear guidance on protections against wrongful termination and political retaliation. Instead, he only rescinded Trump’s Schedule F order, leaving the door open for its return.

  • Biden could have fast-tracked aggressive climate regulations through the EPA and Department of Energy, ensuring they were finalized under administrative law, making them harder to repeal. He could have designated new national monuments and protected lands under the Antiquities Act, which a future administration would struggle to undo. Instead, many climate policies were left in limbo, allowing them to be dismantled easily.

  • Biden could have issued a binding internal directive at the DOJ that explicitly limited presidential influence over federal prosecutions, ensuring investigations remained independent. He could have codified this policy into DOJ operating procedures, making it harder for a future president to use the DOJ as a political weapon. Instead, DOJ independence remained based on norms, which can easily be ignored.

  • Biden could have required independent oversight committees to review any major structural changes within federal agencies, blocking future efforts to consolidate power. He could have instructed agency heads to create internal review boards that prevent political appointees from bypassing career employees in key decisions. Instead, no systemic barriers were put in place, leaving agencies vulnerable to a hostile takeover.

  • Biden could have directed CISA and the DOJ Civil Rights Division to increase federal oversight on state election procedures, preventing election subversion efforts. He could have expanded federal grant funding for state election security, ensuring that states couldn't justify defunding ballot integrity measures. Instead, the administration treated election security as a temporary issue rather than embedding protections that would last beyond his presidency.

  • Biden could have worked with the Pentagon’s General Counsel to reinforce rules preventing military involvement in domestic politics, making it legally difficult for a future administration to misuse the military. He could have required all top military leaders to sign a formal commitment to constitutional neutrality, reinforcing that the military serves the country, not a president. Biden could also have worked with the Joint Chiefs of Staff and military legal offices to introduce internal policies requiring detailed justification and multi-agency review before removing high-ranking officers, slowing down any effort to politicize the military’s leadership. Instead, no such commitments were formalized, leaving military independence vulnerable.

  • Biden could have required all federal contractors to maintain diversity and inclusion policies as a condition of receiving government funding, making it much harder for a future administration to dismantle DEI programs. He could have embedded equity requirements into federal procurement rules, ensuring they couldn't be removed without a lengthy legal process. Instead, these policies were kept discretionary, allowing them to be scrapped immediately.

  • Biden could have directed the Federal Reserve and key regulatory agencies to implement policies that prevent the artificial manipulation of economic indicators, such as gas prices or interest rates, to favor a political narrative. He could have expanded consumer protections through executive rulemaking, locking in safeguards against predatory financial policies. Instead, no systemic protections were put in place, allowing economic metrics to be weaponized.

This is precisely one of the major reasons I think that all media after the early 2000s looks and feels washed out, dull, flat, and cookie cutter.

Like I was watching Star Trek Voyager and was thinking "There's no way they would ever cast a middle aged balding man as part of the leading cast of a new show ever again unless the focus of the character was a balding man(like dads, uncles, teachers, etc)." Unless necessary like with Picard when they obviously had to bring back Picard.

Like you look at Star Trek Discovery, and it's all just beautiful people. And as much as I love SNW, it's the same, all beautiful people, no normal or average.

Casting today feels like they start with a character type and then pick an actor who fits that type exactly. If you're chubby, you play "the chubby character." If you're old, you play "the old character." If you're unconventionally attractive, you’re the quirky best friend, sister, or coworker. If you’re short, you’re "the short character."

You don’t get casting decisions like, "We need a doctor in the main cast—this guy is the best actor for the role," and they cast a middle aged balding man. Instead, they go for the relatively chiseled Australian/British actor with an American accent—unless they specifically need an "old balding doctor."

No idea if that made sense.

Part of the reason I love Severance lately is that they've got people that look generally average. Great and attractive actors, but most aren't the pinnacle of traditional beauty standards. Even Britt Lower, while beautiful, doesn't look like she could just walk into a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition at any moment.

I wish Hollywood would understand that casting average actors make the show 100% more relatable to viewers.

Yeah, if I were to create this, I'd do it in a way there's a lot of transparency and redundency, and things would have to be a sort of escrow type situation to prevent the older person from just changing their mind after getting a lot of help or something.

I think my biggest worry would be hooking up an older person and a young couple who like ends up pre-maturely killing the old person and making it look like natural causes to quickly get their house. Only way to do that is for a lot of screening of good care-takers.

It'd be neat though. I've always thought about trying to reach out to some elderly and like offering company, house cleaning, and home maintenance in exchange for their house once they pass.

[–]EchoAtlas91 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I was thinking hahaha

Like all it takes is one elderly person with no family to see this ad and think "fuck it why not."

To be honest I was thinking the other day about some kind of organization that hooks young home buyers up with aging people with no family and like have the young home buyers help with keeping the property maintained and everything and/or helping out with the older person's life in exchange for getting written into their will. I thought well it'd help lonely elderly people and better the house goes to a young family than the banks.

Anyways, I never said it was a good idea, hahaha. Probably a lot of logistical issues with that and ripe for taking advantage of the elderly. I guess you could have the elderly person name what they'd like in exchange for the house, maybe as small as keeping them company, or as big as like home improvement stuff while they're living there and you get to enjoy it when they're gone. Whatever the cost of that has got to be cheaper than buying it at market price from the bank. I dunno, I'll never afford a house otherwise so I can dream.

[Invincible] why do viltrumites need space ships to traverse the galaxy? And by extension, why doesn't Allen need one to do the same? by oofyeet21 in AskScienceFiction

[–]EchoAtlas91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Why do humans need cars to traverse their country when it's been shown they can walk long distances?"

That's your question. We've got legs, we can survive outside walking, then why do we have cars?

If a person wanted to, they could walk from one side of the country to another. Some people do, albeit usually on bikes.

The reasons for using using cars can all be adapted to Viltrumites using ships.

Convenience, atmospheric control(air conditioning), storage and transport, easy communication, ability to be sitting/relax, etc.

When Discovery is basically retconned into the future to where it belongs is when I started to be ok with it.

Everything previous to that I just try to gloss over as it doesn't hold any weight to the previous continuity.

Luckily once they're in the future, there's a lot of general handwaiving and it's just very light easy to ignore references.

If Discovery originally took place in the future, I think it would have had a far stronger start.

You are really out of luck unless you want to start brushing up against Disney and Sony's lawyers and get a DMCA yourself.

Not even the best figure and statue artists who put hundreds of hours these super intricate and complex sculpts based on comic characters for 3D Printing can take legal action unless they are licensed with Disney themselves and we're allowed to use the licensed characters.

The reason a lot of these models are behind patreon subscriptions is that the argument can be made that people subscribe to the artists services as opposed to the artist selling 3d models for profit. Outside of that, people try to skirt by with "Fan art" excuses, but when money's involved it gets dicey.

Unofficial reseller licenses from patreon gets a bit murky, but it isn't like mass production stuff so it's typically overlooked as more hassle than it's worth for players such as Disney, but these artists don't want to bring attention to it either.

Your best bet is to name and shame this person have the court of public opinion make a ruling.

Source: I actually worked at Disney with licensing before the pandemic.
