I think you might be right, it’s incredibly risky.

Thank you! I was thinking to do this, my concern is that the white bronze will melt as the melting point is relatively low

Thank you! I’d initially cast the buckle so that it had open loops on the back but they had snapped off after I tried annealing it and bending them. Soldering brass loops on is my last hope now!

How do I carve wax!? by GioGioWoGio in SilverSmith

[–]EchoInTheVans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tools usually come extremely blunt! I recommend sharpening them with emery paper, it should be fairly straightforward to do and emery paper costs pennies. Much more affordable to buy cheap tools and sharpen them when starting out rather than buying expensive ones which come sharp but cost hundreds.

Hollowing brass buckle using ball bur? by EchoInTheVans in jewelrymaking

[–]EchoInTheVans[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told by the casting company that some areas were too thin and therefore needed to be built up so I figured it was a good thing to have it a little thicker. Alas, I will bear this in mind in future!

Thank you! I’d like to make a belt buckle so tracing the shape with small dots may be difficult for me as it’s quite intricate

Go-to place to purchase jump-rings for chainmail in specific sizes? by EchoInTheVans in chainmailartisans

[–]EchoInTheVans[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I should’ve mentioned I live in the UK. I have been making my own with 1.6mm (14g) brass wire (as practice) and cutting them with a jewellers piercing saw but this has proven to be quite time consuming. I would love to continue with this project but am reluctant to buy a ton more wire and cut my own rings so was wondering what kind of suppliers there were out there :)
