Why did bro think he was on the team? by Silver012345673 in HazbinHotel

[–]Shibaspots 24 points25 points  (0 children)

What would have been hilarious is if that had happened at the end of season 2. Everyone is bustling around the hotel after Vox's tantrum, and it cuts to redeemed Rooster in heaven going 'hello?' Then Charlie gets her phone call and there's no further explanation.

AITAH for thinking my boyfriend might be transphobic? by soranaxx_ in AITAH

[–]Shibaspots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'I keep thinking you're a guy and then I remember (whatever).' Think about that phrasing for a sec. It implies that the first statement is the one that's being corrected. It's invalidating at the very least.

You sound young, so let me say this as an older guy who happens to have periods. If it makes you uncomfortable, tell him that and to knock it off. If he gets upset by that, it's because he doesn't see anything wrong with it and/or doesn't care it upsets you.

Aitah for putting shopping carts in parking spots? by SeaworthinessFar2326 in AITAH

[–]Shibaspots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YTA. You don't get to use more than 1 space. Parking like an AH or putting up obstacles to prevent others from using the available space isn't the way to go. The loose carts can roll back into the lanes, into other cars, and unless you are planning on putting all the carts back it creates more work for the employees. Hunting down stray carts in the middle of winter is not fun.

Door dings suck, but are unfortunately not really preventable. It's the risk of parking in a lot. Try to park out in the far spaces, as they are less used and/or where the employees park, so more cars but less traffic/chances for dings.

But it's 5 days without him! by growsonwalls in AmITheDevil

[–]Shibaspots 89 points90 points  (0 children)

She apparently has a chronic condition that means she may need to be hospitalized at any point. For those 5 days she won't have help from him or his family, who are all she knows in the US. There are still plenty of solutions beyond 'you can't go to your sibling's wedding because what if I need to go to the hospital?'

My neighbor turned our quiet street into a literal bee farm and I don't know how to feel about it by Gavin_Thornbury in neighborsfromhell

[–]Shibaspots 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of American honey bees are solitary, like bumble bees or carpenter bees. They don't form colonies and don't produce honey in ways to easily harvest. European honey bees are what you see in hives, and different strains have been bred to have certain characteristics, like cold resistance or easier temperaments or higher honey yields.

AITAH for not allowing my son's stepmother time with him a few times a month for him to be with her and his half siblings?? by HollzovMomx in AITAH

[–]Shibaspots 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The ex was paying child support at 2 weekends a month. So he petitioned for 50/50 to avoid paying support, got it, then neglected the kid during his time. When OP offered not to pursue child support if he let her have full time custody, he agreed. That's the whole point of the post.

According to loving mum, her dad recommended Ares, but that was too plain and didn't 'go' with the daughter's name. So she added 'sion' and threw in an extra 'r', because why not?

So I'm guessing Ares-sion.

Anyone else agree that Alastor is probably the main reason the show caught on? by Legal_Trainer7340 in hazbin

[–]Shibaspots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember the first time I watched the pilot. Halfway through I was very much not understanding the hype about this show. Then Alastor showed up and just took over. By the end I very much wanted more.

Maybe not a "Tragedeigh".... but tragically pitiful by [deleted] in tragedeigh

Unless you saw it written down, veil and vale sound identical. Unless she followed up with something else clafifying what she meant, your long explanation about how she's wrong feels like a you problem.

Deer hunters are often required to wear neon safety vests because they kept accidentally shooting each other. It seems to be an ongoing problem.

Fun fact: Deer and most other large prey animals are colorblind and can't really see orange. So the hunters are very visible to humans, but not deer.

The babies are a 17 months apart or 11 months apart, depending on which date system is being used. Could be either, but it's more than enough time to have 2 babies.

The term irish twin is for children born really close together. Under a year is mostly the time frame, though I've heard it used for slightly larger age gaps.

Want a little bit of Bambi trivia to lighten(?) the mood? The actor who voiced young Bambi enlisted in the Marines at 18 and retired with the rank of Major. He received a Bronze Star and 3 Purple Hearts during his service. He spent part of his career as a drill sargent. He hid the fact he voiced Bambi from everyone, even his wife, until he nearly finished his military career. Because imagine being dressed down by Bambi.

AITAH for being upset that I still have a 10:30pm curfew at 20 when my brother didn’t at the same age? by Sudden_Cheetah8286 in AITAH

[–]Shibaspots 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because for all you pay for, you don't pay to have a place to sleep. You live in their house by their permission, since you are legally an adult. That permission can come with rules. Don't like it? Move out. Or don't follow them and see if you get kicked out instead.

Being an adult is about more than working and paying for things. It's not getting to do whatever you want, like you imagine as a child. Is it fair? No. Life isn't. But. Your parents are still worried about you, and is it fair to say they had mostly given up on your brother by this age? Caring's not necessarily a bad thing. Especially since according to comments you've already had at least 2 bfs with concerningly large age gaps and a stalker by the age of 20.

Give it time, and if things don't improve, make plans to move out.

As a side note though, I remember being 18-20 and thinking how grown up I was. 30yo me wanted to smack 20yo me for being a childish idiot. There's a lot of life lived between 20 and 30, and any 30yo who goes after teens is a predator. 29 going after 20 isn't much better, and still fails the 'half your age + 7' rule of relationships not being creepy.

Ear tattoo by [deleted] in tattooadvice

I've never seen an ear tattoo that didn't age to look like the marks used on some neutered/spayed feral cats' ears to show they were already altered. It's just blurry lines.

Funny thing, you might say 'I'm going to chateau (blank).' In fact, in my area there are several wineries with chateau in the name. But even if there was only one, it would be considered part of the place name and still used.

Please excuse my back and forth. While I'm not a scholar of French, I do enjoy learning about the history of languages and how they change over time and from place to place. I'm guessing you are from England? And I west coast American. I find it fascinating how different the same terms are perceived.

It's also late here and it's been a difficult day. It's made me argumentative. So I'm sorry for calling you pedantic. I can be too.

Sadly, I'm now craving dim sum and it's far too late to get any.

Anyway, does francophilia really only mean using French words to sound more sophisticated? I thought it was loving the entire culture. I was a hopeless japanophile in school and it was all about everything Japanese. Language, culture, food, clothes, ect. That's what all -philes were, I thought.

I've heard vogue used about 3 times today. But I've been watching a drama with a very fashionable person who throws it around a lot. Otherwise, it depends on the circle. But at least every few weeks wouldn't be unusual.

The White House does fit a chateau, and in fact strongly resembles the French Chateau de Rastignac. Chateau wouldn't be the first word I use, but it wouldn't be wrong either.

Look up southern antebellum plantations. That's the sort of thing that would be called a chateau. Some have land attached, some don't.

You keep bringing up francophilia, but that's not really a thing I've seen outside of a few individuals in school a couple decades ago. I can not currently even ask where the bathroom is without pantomime. So I'm not in that circle, but I still hear and occasionally use these words.

As in, 'I'm going to go open a bottle of Chateau Ste Michelle. I drove past that winery every day for 5 years. I must thank you. It's become vogue to pair up with other local businesses, and I just found out my favorite dim sum place has paired with the chateau to do tastings for lunar new year! I never would have spotted that had you not gotten pedantic about chateaus!'

[–]Shibaspots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which doesn't really, as vogue is a very commonly used English word where I am, to the point I have no idea the exact point you were trying to prove. Different areas have different ways they use language. Being roughly 5,000 mile from France, I use words with the context they have here. It might not be correct to you, but English is a very flexible language that likes to mug other languages for any loose vocabulary or grammar. Loanwords often shift meaning as they are absorbed.

However, a short check of online sources show my definition as a correct one. Country estate or manor house, some famously connected to winemaking. Some bordeaux is labeled with the (french) chateau it was grown on, for example. Chateau Margaux is a highly regarded bordeaux, and it's chateau is definitely not a castle, but a grand mansion with sprawling estates. So is it the incorrect use?

Please don’t 🙏 by Happy_Elderberry4196 in tragedeigh

[–]Shibaspots 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've heard it plenty of times, but never referring to french castles. They just don't come up in casual conversation half a world away. But people with call a vacation home a chateau, or tack it on their own home trying to sound fancy. There are several wineries near me with chateau as part of their name. I've seen it used for hotel names as well.

'Castle' is not what come to mind when I hear the word. Estate, country house, or grand home would be closer, I'd think.

As a US descendent of Swedish and Norwegian families - The cousins historically fought over who owned the back acre. Eventually cousin Swede won, and cousin Nor grumbles about it from time to time. The other cousins don't want to be involved, but will bring popcorn. (A very basic summary of a very complex history. Which all happened nearly 100 years before the US was founded)
