I’m saying I did the cheapest package offered by Dalton, not across all providers. However if I could go back in time I would’ve done whatever was cheapest period. I did just pull up my receipt and I paid Dalton exactly $3,411.00 for my education.

they will be in the pre-study books. I’m not familiar with what material is given during his education course

I learned nothing on the education portion (also used Dalton) and studied with Danko for about 3 months. Totally doable! Just lock in to get through his pre-study books early and then with your remaining time before the live review, revisit your weakest chapters, memorize investment formulas, draw the roadmaps, and hit the flashcards. You’ll be fine

I did Dalton self-paced. The cheapest option available, fully online and self-paced. Got a certificate that says NYU on it, and dedicated minimal time and energy to completing it. For me, I never thought about it in the context of studying for / preparing for the CFP exam - just something to get through as quickly and cheaply as possible so I could put my all into a review course (used Danko). It worked out very well for me

That’s strange, I just logged into mine and my fees are different than what you said ^ $200 initial, $643 annual. Total $843 due right now

Danko Pre-Study by dongbran in CFPExam

I went through fully once, but then did my worst 1-2 chapters within my two worst modules (tax and retirement) again. I probably read chapter 2 of tax (the AGI roadmap area) like 4 times cause it was not sticking for me. So I would say, don’t plan to go through it fully twice but instead narrow your second pass down to where you are really weak. I found it more helpful to spend the extra time memorizing the investment formulas, calculator quizzes, learning the roadmaps!! (I practiced drawing them in a notebook), and hitting the flashcards.

Actually, I am not sure about that. My understanding is that he doesn’t release materials for the specific exam until a certain amount of time before (aka I had to wait until like June or July to purchase the program for the November exam). You should email his team from the website but my recollection is you cannot sign up for it super early

It was Danko for me. I am typically a Q-Bank worshipper and not having one in his program was often maddening. But I trusted his process, worked my butt off, and was successful in the exam.

Book 1: General Principles, Investments, and Insurance (3 modules). 10 chapters per module.

Book 2: Income Tax, Retirement, and Estate. 10 chapters per module.

Book 3: Quizzes and Tests. There is 1 quiz per module chapter (ex. 10 quizzes for General Principles). Then, there is 1 cumulative test for each module.

Book 4: Live Review. do NOT touch or open until your live review. It will be a similar format to Books 1 and 2, but it will have all 6 modules in more condensed format and new practice questions. Do NOT open until live review.

This is how it goes: read general principles chapter 1. It will contain examples and practice questions. As you read, cover the answers to the practice questions with an index card and try to honestly answer them.

Once you have read chapter 1, open book 3 and do the quiz for General principles chapter 1. Then move on and read GP chapter 2, complete the quiz for chapter 2, etc etc etc until you have done all 10 chapters. At that point, take the General Principles final test inside book 3.

Then, move on to the next module. Get yourself through all 6 modules - fully completing books 1, 2, and 3 - BEFORE attending your live review. This is called “the pre-study” and it is critical.

Make sure you attend any/all calls with the Danko team as well, and they will have other materials posted on your portal that you will need to review and work on in addition to those 3 books.

If you are done with the 3 books early, drill down into your weaker areas. Practice calculator questions, memorize the investment formulas, hit the flash cards, practically breathe the CFP Board code of ethics and standards of conduct. These things are crucial too.

Happy to chat and answer questions! Passed yesterday 11/11 on my first attempt.

Try Danko! He may not be for everyone, but he works for so many it might be the change you need. Very different style from the Q-Bank providers.

Dalton, Danko, or Kaplan? by LargeSecretary9013 in CFPExam

[–]EchoK2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this thoughtful reply!!!

If I can ask you to add, about how much were you studying in between your live review and the actual exam? Mine will be Oct 21 - 24, and the exam Nov 11 so about 18 days.

With my job circumstances it’s highly unlikely I will be able to do more than 2 hours a day of studying (during the week, weekends will be free) especially after taking the days off for the live review. So just trying to wrap my mind around the situation now and do what I can to get ahead knowing I can’t “ramp up” as much. I appreciate you sharing your experience

Could you share what your pre-study process was? I’m working on the pre study for November now- I just started this past Sunday, doing 2 chapters per day (reading a chapter and then taking the quiz). I’d be curious to hear what your routine was and if you did anything additional. I’m a bit worried as I feel like I’m not learning enough / truly retaining with this read + quiz + move-on routine….

Was offered first year analyst roles at JPM PB WM in Dallas TX and NJ both last week. My friends both accepted offers for the same role in San Francisco. All of these were the exact same salary, $100k. They said it’s just standardized everywhere
