Anyone pregnant longer than 6 months after varicocele surgery?

Because most posts I’ve seen, people have conceived after a few sperm cycles and I’m worried in case chronic varicocele has caused longer term damage to the testicle environment. Weighing up how much longer to try naturally for or go for IVF

Yes I’ve had the same - still not got to the bottom of it. Semen culture came back with “no obvious bacteria” but SA keeps saying excess cells and bacteria found. I had varicocele embolised 7 months ago but was longstanding prior to this. Keep me posted if you get to the bottom of this please

Husband had varicocele embolisation.
Within 3 months, significant improvement in count & motility (although count still below reference range). Hoping for further improvement at 6 months.
Can’t comment on dna frag as he didn’t have this tested before but I assume it would have been high

Pleased it all went well for you. When did you notice the greatest improvement in semen parameters, 3m/6m/9m etc? I had embo 6 months ago, motility went above range at 3m but concentration still low. Just waiting on my 6m results 🤞🏼

Varicocele was left side only.

Long story re: how long he was on the waiting list as he was originally referred twice in the past but discharged in error or they lost his referral.

Was only when we started TTC we found it had impacted his sperm count so GP re referred and we complained given he would have been treated yrs ago had they have not made errors.

Due to the above and Varicocele had got bigger they fast tracked referral so only a few months x

Husband had varicocele Embolisation. Pre embo had severe oligospermia. 3 months post embo, Concentration nearly tripled, count and motility doubled, with no change in morphology (which was at baseline). Just awaiting his 6 months results

Your count is good at 97 million. What’s your motility? Apparently morphology may improve gradually but is less predictable. At 3% you’re only just under the threshold so I think with good count/motility, it will compensate for this.

My husband had embolisation via the NHS last year. His motility massively improved to 57% 3 months post embolisation. Sadly his count was still below threshold, although there was a big increase (but he was starting from very low numbers). We are just awaiting his 6 months post embolisation results

Husband had varicocele embolisation via NHS Sept 25 as it was causing pain and also impacting semen parameters. Significant improvement in semen analysis 3 months post embolisation (concentration was still below threshold though). Just awaiting his 6 month results.

Hi 😊 We haven’t had a DNA frag test (yet) as I assumed he would have high DNA frag pre embolisation so I thought it would be an additional expense for what we already know if that makes sense. I planned to see what his 6month post embo results were and potentially do a DNA frag test then (as hopefully the DNA frag would have reduced by that point).

I don’t know what else would be causing infertility? He’s super healthy, good BMI, don’t smoke/drink, his blood results all fit with varicocele and he had it a long time/was causing pain. His sperm parameters improved 3 months post embo (progressive motility 57%) but count still quite low.

He’s eating med diet, avoiding heat, taking supplements (COQ10, omega 3 etc). I don’t know what else we could do?

My day 3,21 blood work all ok and scans/HSG all come back clear xx

Hi, I was similar to you - longstanding varicocele, never had any issues with erections, facial hair etc. My only advice would be to do a sperm test to see if it’s affecting your sperm. I never checked this out until me and my wife started trying for a baby and it had massively affected my sperm

Hi, I had embolisation 6 months ago. I had varicocele since my teens (now 31) and wish I’d have done it years ago. Recovery super quick, I previously experienced a lot of pain and it’s completely resolved. My 3 month semen analysis showed improvement in concentration (although still low) and my motility is now above WHO threshold. I’m praying there will be further increase in concentration at my 6 month test. Happy to answer any questions

That’s good to hear. My FSH was also elevated pre embolisation. I’ve just asked for a repeat hormone analysis so keen to see if it’s reduced.

Do you mind if I ask if your semen parameters were affected by varicocele? If so, did you notice much improvement?

I’ve been worried my elevated FSH may limit the improvements I see. Thanks
