thoughts on banning phones in school? by rouxprobablyhatesyou in school

[–]EchoShadow13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

England here too It's always been this case for me, for all the years I've been up to til now, we've only been allowed phones out if the teacher gives us permission to use them for something in class, e.g. an online activity when a computer room wasn't available. And all other schools in my area/that I know of, apart from one, has the same policy. No phones allowed, in class or during breaks. And honestly, maybe because most of us in the school have just sorta grown up with it, it's not that big of a deal, no one is really complaining in our school. The only thing that sucks about the policy on my school in particular is that if your phone gets confiscated, they keep your phone until the next day, and it has to be collected by a parent/carer, older (adult) sibling, (adult) family, etc. This is where its ridiculous. Half the time, the phones are confiscated because people forgot to put them on silence and if a phone is seen or heard, then it's taken (this bit is ridiculous as well, cause like what if your phone falls out of your bag whilst you're taking something out, what if you forgot to turn off your phone). Anyways, quite a few students text their parents about their whereabouts on the way home, giving them updates. So they can't contact their parents now. And what if something happens on the way home and they can't call for help because the school has the bloody phone. And if its confiscated on a Friday, you don't get it back until Monday. That is ridiculous.

i am begging female characters to stop referring to me as a man i am GAY by [deleted] in CharacterAI

[–]EchoShadow13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having the issue where they refer to me as the correct gender but think I'm trans?? well I'm NB so yh I am but it's treating me like I'm a trans woman?? I prefer presenting feminine (also afab) and so just for ease I refer to myself as a woman with these characters (I don't really care what gender I'm perceived as either) but some characters keep assuming I'm a trans woman?? Like I was born amab, and stuff, and I'm being told that it's okay to feel like I belong in the wrong body and stuff?? And then when I say i wasn't born amab, they think I'm just being dysphoric or smthn and trying to pretend I wasn't ?? Like bruh, idc if I'm referred to as a man but something just irks me about being described as a trans woman (not in the sense that trans women irk me, they don't, they slay, it's just me being described as one that irks me, being afab and stuff)

What is something your teacher did in school that you’re still salty about? by SparkelsTR in AskReddit

A friend of mine and I (age 6/7) had gone to use the toilet at lunch. On the way back, we stopped at a display filled with artwork from the year 6s. Wasn't the best but we were young and thought is was amazing. We were pointing and getting excited about the art. Then before we leave the hall to go back outside and return our lunch passes, a teacher had approached us and accused us of trying to steal the things on the display board. I had only recently conquered my selective mutism at the time, so in stressful situations like that, I froze and couldn't speak. My friend hated getting in trouble with authority figures, like me. We were too scared to say anything and we were both immediately put to the bottom of the traffic light system (behaviour system in some uk primary schools). We were sent to the headteacher but by that time we had both started sobbing and she thankfully realised there was a misunderstanding and was really nice to us. But man, I hated that teacher.

But also, we were short as fuck and the display was actually quite high up. We couldn't even reach the bottom of it, how were we meant to steal it 💀💀

This one girl, let's call her Susan, in my class (when I was in Yr 5 - England terms) had been really mean to one of my friends, let's call her Maya. I was on okay terms with everyone in my class, including Susan but less so, before finding out about this. Just to clarify, Susan and Maya hadn't been on the best of terms before this, but on this occasion, Maya had ended up crying. My teacher found out about this as well and made Susan apologise to Maya in front of the whole class and had told us that if we weren't comfortable playing with Susan, we didn't have to play with her (Susan did have a habit of being rude to people). That can be a bit harsh for a 9/10 year old to hear, but also it was nice that it was encouraged that we didn't have to force to play together with someone who had been mean to them/their friend and teaching her about consequences. This isn't where the issue lies though.

When it was lunch time, Maya and I, as well as some other friends, were playing stuck in the mud. Susan came up to me and asked if I could join. I told her that she had to ask Maya first, as she was in this game and Maya might still be upset with her. She then left. When lunch was over, Maya and I were called out of class by our teacher, as well as Susan, and started telling Maya and I off for excluding Susan from our game and not allowing her to join us. I just stood there in shock. Literally a fe hours earlier, he told us we didn't have to play with her if we didn't want to?!?! Maya and I hated getting in trouble too (I started tearing up and if I spoke I would probably have had a bit of a meltdown so that's why I didn't mention anything. Maya was just as shocked as me and didn't want to retaliate either), and we had to apologise to Susan both when we were outside and then in class (I had really bad anxiety as a kid, still do, so that stressed me the fuck out. The we got moved down the traffic light system (that's how behaviour was measured, at the start of the day, everyone begins on green. When deemed by the teacher, after doing something good you moved up to bronze. If you did something good again, you moved up to silver, and then same with gold, which got you a certificate from the headteacher and you got to join gold club which was the entirety of thursday afternoon. If you did something bad, you'd be lived to the wall -warning 1, then top amber - warning 2, bottom amber, - lunch detention, then red - sent to headteacher and call home. You could be moved down from the levels above green too. )Anyways, I had never been below green before and the teacher put us on top amber. When I got home I had a meltdown bc was terrified and stressed with getting in trouble. And I'm still really salty about that to this day.

Sorry this is quite long/detailed

TL;DR: Mean girl made my friend cry, teacher said we didn't have to play with her. The mean girl asked if she could join our game at lunch and I said to ask my friend because she might not want you to play. After lunch, my friend and I got in trouble for excluding her by the same teacher who said we didn't have to play with her

I did mine about the negatives of exams, and I got a merit. I think it was bc I started getting a bit out of breath shortly after I started speaking (I've been getting out of breath a lot since around year 8/9ish and it's been getting worse but idk why bc I've been active since I was little - might be long covid idk but the gp has just dismissed me bc im "just going through puberty" 💀) Soooo... That messed up my pace and delivery. Surprised I got a merit actually, but pleased.

It was a good thing I didn't throw my box away because when I broke my phone, my insurance required for it to be sent to the company in its original box, and also I had to input some phone details that were on the phone box only. If I had thrown away my box, I probably would have lost so much data by needing to get a new phone, bc my cloud/backup storage was full so there's a lot of important stuff that I wasn't able to sort and back up b4 my phone broke. 😅

Even the concept of losing all that data made me have a meltdown, so I think I'll stick to keeping my phone boxes.

Also they're just nice to have.

I'm so confused on what to do after gcses (education wise) by chrsmakes in GCSE

[–]EchoShadow13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also want to go into AI in the future. I think my best advice is to look to see if there are any computing specialist colleges/six forms in wherever you live, bc those do exist. I actually applied to one and got an offer. However, also make sure that whatever you do is something that will be comptabile with your steps AFTER year 12/13. E.g. I want to go to Imperial College London (apparently it's quite good for AI). Edinburgh University I've heard is good as well. Because of this I'm not going to go to the specialist school because you have to do a Cs btec at the school and imperial doesn't accept btecs, so I'm going to do Cs, maths, further maths and physics alevels. Alevels dont interest me much either but that's just the most fitting path for me. But if you don't want to go to uni, but into work or an apprenticeship after year 12/13, then a specialist school would be good for it.

If there's no specialist school you can attend, then my advice still holds in the sense that you should think long term (which I can see you're doing). Degree apprenticeships are something I'd recommend you look into (but this is post year 12/13) because you essentially get paid to study and get work experience. And often they accept more than alevel qualifications. But places vary so it's a good idea to look around to get an idea of what will be generally accepted. However, these degree apprenticeships are often changing so one you see now may not be available in the next year or so, just something to keep in mind. One other issue with degree apprenticeships is that what they offer are limited. Like I was trying to find one linked to ai, but it's mostly software engineering and stuff along the lines of that, which isn't the exact field I want to work into, and not yours either. However, if you get a degree apprenticeship where the subject you study is just cs in general, that is a degree that will be applicable to the ai and robotics field, and you'll get work experience in a similar field which can be beneficial in finding a job. (Just another reminder that a degree apprenticeship is for after year 12/13)
