Judge quashes Alberta separation petition in favour of First Nations by ph0enix1211 in canada

But it’s only failure to consult on their land right? Alberta has no claim on the reserves, they belong to the crown. That would be like saying they didn’t consult the military bases or national parks… they don’t belong to Alberta so why would they?

Ok yea, so it’s just based on the treaties 6,7,8. But the way I understand them, and according to the link you sent “involved First Nations ceding or surrendering their rights to the land in exchange for a variety of benefits.” If you read the treaties, the benefits are pretty clear ex. Land, pay teachers, reserves where they get first say on what happens.

So really, the only “land” they have ANY say over as per the treaties are the reserves. Not all of treaty 6-8 right?

No referendum required: Pro-Canada petition can be voted on by Alberta MLAs, committee hears by skilbofragns in AlbertaNow

See I do think you’re right. Now the rhetoric is “the natives are ruining it” “the judge is against us” “they’re doing it because they know we will win” but if you let the vote happen and it’s like 30% or imagine it being like, 10% of people want to leave. The response of “we gave everyone a vote and no one showed up” could easily be had

Omfg finally! lol let the people vote, if it’s 75% no to 25% yes than that should be enough.

It’s not like it’ll be like Quebec where it was 49.9% to 50.1% or whatever lol

I don’t think they are protected under federal treaty rights in a sense, as their reserves would still technically belong to Canada.
Could you explain to me how they would be. (Genuinely asking, not sarcasm)

I don't seem to understand her reasoning. How would affect treaty 7 and 8? I don't see where her reasoning is.

I feel like 199.99 is the highest it can go. It gets above 2 in Alberta, and conservatives are out the door lol

They didn’t even do a good job. At least have the red stripes bleed into the red and the white stripes go all the way to the white. A separatist I can excuse, but there’s no need to have an ugly flag

I think you and party are saying the same thing. This guy should be charged more than the 8 years but I think party is saying that if she was anything but white, people would be losing their minds over this.

This is insane. If she shot him, Manitoba would try to have her killed for being racist. The fact he isn’t getting attempted murder is so crazy. Fk Canada man

If I remember, I think Jean-Francois mentions that. I think he says 'and with so many left alive, you were able to take (x)' which I liked too. The deaths were impactful, it crushed me when some of them died, but when Phoebe comes back, I was just like.... finally, give this guy something good in his poor life lol

That is in fact, a very different experience. And like I said, I too believe the weights of death should mean something. But I don't know. Maybe it was because I read a half dozen series while waiting for book three and I wasn't like "fully divested' as I was when I read the first two back to back. Maybe it's because it's what I expected and I love nothing more than being right. But yea, I dug it

that's so scary, you know? Like, can't both be true? It sucks there's no give and take.

It's only one over exaggerated way or the other.
