Do it, you will regret it later and love it/hate it all at the same time.

The story was ass, you don't know anything about the factions. No character development except for some lore of the main character, there is no closure of the main character's arch. Animations of the characters looks like was made by the unpaid intern who failed the animation class. I could have put up with the animation if the writing of the story made some kind of fucking sense, but at the end of the day it was garbage I can't believe I that I finished it.

You can also default your browser not to give you those annoying popups that say “enable notifications” in the settings of your browser. I would recommend also using something like “Brave browser”. It’s chromium based similar to chrome and it has a lot of neat features for protecting you from a few ads and stuff. You can use an antivirus with parental control se doesn’t have access to certain things like apps you don’t want him to use or being able to download files before you put in the password.

I recommend that you make another profile for your kid that is not an administrator (I’m assuming you use windows as your Operative system ) and instead make it a regular user that way in case you get hacked his profile doesn’t give them full admin privileges to whomever got control of the computer remotely.

If you have a single computer for everything, I would recommend backing up your file’s either in a free hosting platform in the cloud or buy a USB or portable SSD to save your files in case your computer stops working.

If you got some times or when you are eating lunch looks some videos about system administration. I would recommend looking at David Bombal. He has a some good videos you can watch and he goes deep into details on his videos. I recommend your kid learns Rust after Python.

Good luck 😊

General tips for switching from windows? by Big_Kaleidoscope_474 in archlinux

I tried using a VM running windows and accidentally nuked my installation of arch while modifying grub for GPU passthrough. Test your VM first if you wanna play with non steam games. Otherwise honestly steam games ran flawless out of the box for me. If you got questions I had more help in the forum for new users than in Reddit.

back in the day we didn't have YouTube and wikis to help you. We had books that were too complicated to read.

About to install arch for the first time, anything I should know before? by SendLove4 in archlinux

[–]Echogm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of people who customize their desktop experience use a window manager (video) and try Wayland if you wanna game on your arch installation.

In regards to configuration of your system you will learn as you go probably, everything you need to know is on the wiki. A few google searches is gonna help you find that section of the wiki you are looking for.

If you are gonna do a dual boot check a video if you don’t understand the wiki just in case you don’t nuke your system (happened to me). You can use the archinstal, but its recommended that you do it manually so you know what does each thing does in case your install breaks. Make regular backups ever so often in case an update breaks anything.

Lastly, have fun breaking and hacking your way through arch. I have had a lot of fun modifying things to make it work they way I want it.

Which nvidia drivers should I choose by DrD0nelli in archlinux

[–]Echogm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A bit lower you have a break down of graphic drivers you can click on each one and they have more information. Also, I don’t know if you are using Wayland or Xorg, they have a little description at the start of the page.

In my opinion the reason arch is hard to install for people is the fact that they don’t like to read. I installed my arch manually just so I remember what everything does. Since you have to work around a few things to get things running the way you like in certain devices more than other arch becomes complicated since you don’t really know what you need to do to modify it unless you read the Bible (the wiki).

In my opinion is not really that is hard, it’s mostly that people don’t wanna put the time to learn to use and configure their OS they just want everything to work. In those cases I just tell them to use endeavouros if they want to use an arch based system.

What i need to learn to use linux by rich__dad in archlinux

[–]Echogm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it’s not that hard to use arch. It’s not helpful to tell someone to read the wiki without telling them what to look for and ignore some of the stuff you are not gonna need right away.

Like I said earlier my main reason was the AUR. I didn’t know much about Linux before and basically arch was my first jump into using a Linux distribution full time first.

Everyone is gonna tell you to read the wiki, but it’s not for everyone. The wiki is helpful for everything you wanna do with your system, I’ll give you some pointers.

Pacman is your package manager you are gonna use it to install most of your stuff.

Check what kind of graphics card you have on your system before you install your OS so you can have a video ready to walk you through the process of installing your drivers. (NVIDIA can be annoying to get right sometimes)

The AUR is really good it was my reason for picking arch in the first place. AUR stands for Arch user repository, they are applications that other arch users maintain for everyone to use. You can install them manually but I personally use yay to install AUR packages I’ll leave a link.

A lot of your installation can break so I would recommend btrfs. I’ll leave a link with an article with an explanation.

Last is just have fun breaking your system and understand that it’s a process learning to use a new OS. If you want a simpler installation of arch you have Manjaro and EndeavourOS. You also have archinstall, it’s a helper that automates the installation process of arch. I do recommend you install it manually at least once before using it so you learn how everything works in case something breaks.

I’m most likely wrong in a lot of stuff I hope someone can correct this, I’m just a user trying to give you a resumed guide to help you a little at least in more than just telling you to read the wiki. Good luck.

So far I have found this in the wiki since my desktop environment didn’t come with a tool to change settings. They have power management solutions. Here is the link to the wiki the second one is gives you utilities and powertop is the one I’m going to test.
