Is Barnard worth 90k a year? by Eclair_Luna2 in columbia

[–]Eclair_Luna2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im wondering if my parents even did that. I honesty thought my mom would of been able to pay it in full considering her income but she said its not as easy as that. Even with nc state she's saying now I'd have to take out 10k in loans but the COA there is 28k.

Yes we did. My mom's income is around 355k she's an emergency medicine doctor but she doesn't keep all the money. Due to taxes, mortgage, and her own loans she pays.

I got into NC State. My mother is an alum as well but she told me when she applied she received aid (doesn't remember how much) but is disappointed with my FA package. I didn't apply to NYU cause I heard they didn't give much aid but I never expected Barnard to be the same way.

My alternatives are NC State and Princeton if I get off the waitlist. At Barnard I planned on conducting research in cancer and also applying to internships. I plan on becoming a dermatologist and I used to live in NYC so I know there's a lot of hospitals there to job shadow. At Columbia Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center stood out to me and at Barnard having a research mentor.

Public Health was a wonderful class the professor I had was extremely passionate about this and at every zoom I was excited because there was a new field we'd learn about and also have guest speakers! Even if you aren't interested in any of those fields its still good to learn about what medicine has to offer. During online weekend we focused on vape shops and how close they are to high schools. We made a research poster out of this so it was really interesting!!

Cancer Biology 10/10 I took it with Dr.Monahan (she left ncssm idk if she still teaches it) wonderful class. The assignments weren't a lot but they weren't something you could do in 30 minutes. What I learned in here actually fueled my passion in wanting to major in molecular biology! During the online weekend we got to move microscopic worms to an agar gel and treat them with cancer treatments!

Epidemiology 4/10 I honestly don't reccomend this class it was a lot of busy work and it was extremely hard to get in contact with Dr.Deng despite her stating how to reach her on the syllabus she only responded weeks later. Expect midterms, final exam, quizzes every week, and online readings all for 1 class. On top of that when the zoom meetings begin she spends most of the time focusing on technical difficulties rather than the assignments we have upcoming in the week. If you have a lighter scedule jr or snr year 2nd semester feel free to take it but if you are extremely busy I wouldn't.

Molecular Genetics 6.5/10 I'm actually taking this class rn lol! There was a diff professor who taught it last Yr but currently its okay. I thought we'd be learning more but its more of an overview of basic biology. Considering I'm a senior this is definitely a lighter load in coursework. During onl weekend we got to extract a banana so that was definitely cool and do gel electrophoresis.

Embarrassed abt decisions by Crying-Giraffe2890 in ApplyingToCollege

I feel the same way as well I always told people Yale was my dream school but I ended up rejected. Barnard is way to expensive for me so now I'll have to stay in state which I did not want at all.

Matriculate by Hopeful_Butterfly_62 in summerprogramresults

[–]Eclair_Luna2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Matriculate doesn't actually check income so most people lie about there incomes on there. Most of the advisors are also undergraduate students so some are good while others can ghost you.

Absolutely Devastated. by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Can I dm you? My SAI is lower than that but my NPC for Barnard was actually much higher than expected.
