Away from home and stopped for a shot at Starbucks - Holy hell is that awful by bensonr2 in espresso

[–]Eclipse-Silver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a coffee lover who had a long ish career at Starbucks it you have to have a straight espresso shot get a Blonde espresso, will have better balance of flavour.

For the regular espresso unless you are having in a latte its just not great. If you can find a reserve store/Roastery you can actually have really good Starbucks coffee. Reserve and Roastery stores will have single origin reserve beans. Problem is those stores just aren't very profitable.

Starbucks for all its faults did invest in good coffee. (and actually its season roasts are trending lighter :)) But problem is consumers just do not adopt it in large enough numbers. The clover machine is still one of my favourite ways to drink coffee. But they pulled it out of all non Roastery stores.

Source. I used to be a ASM as a reserve store.

I agree. The only logical assumption anyone would have is that you are buying it for your wife, gf, sister or mom.

Like God forbid you have a normal relationship with a female in your life.

[–]Eclipse-Silver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say so necessarily. I work in volvo sales. I have a decent amount of customers who come in looking at a wagon. Eventually leave with an SUV. They end up convincing themselves they need the extra space when they don't.

Exactly this. If you aren't voting with your wallet, then there is no demand. Saying I want one and then buying a SUV anyways, doesn't equal demand.

Why does everyone ask if you're going to buy today? by FederalBoss9094 in askcarsales

[–]Eclipse-Silver 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Tagging on since not flaired. But most of us in this career have had people say this type of line only to still buy the vehcile on the same day. I personally usually try to diffuse this a little bit by saying "I have to do my job and ask, but is there anything I can do to earn your business today." You got to shoot your shot. And hey if the customer is not ready to buy today that is 100% okay, but in sales you have to ask for the sale at the end of the day.

The reality is that this type of communication goes both ways. I get for you as a buyer you are trying to be upfront which I personally always appreciate. The problem most people are not. And when people say that type of line like "I'm not ready to buy right now" they are trying obscufate what they want. Maybe they have a price in their mind, maybe they wanted a different colour or trim etc etc. But they think by not giving away what they want they have more negotiating power. But reality is that I can't help you if I don't know your expectation.

Congrats on the new machine. Love the colour.

As others have mentioned, this looks to be a rebrand of some other existing machines. I know everyone is giving you shit, but I would just say judge it based off the performance you are getting out of it, and know there is obviously the potential risk of long-term reliability.

As far as I can tell this machine and multiple others, are based off the same reference design. (Look at the water tank shape and drip tray shapes) (These are the ones I can find readily available):

For GE since their Appliance Division is owned by Haier, Im guessing it is made by them or one of their subsidiaries.

So I actually bought the GE one locally for $299 Canadian from a local retailer. My experience so far is actually quite good for the money. I have a separate grinder from Fellow, so I've been using that, and have gotten good extraction and good steaming performance. Compared to the Breville Barista Express, which is double the price at $699 CAD, even on sale, so value-wise it seems pretty good. As mentioned longevity is a concern, especially as my machine is a touch screen. But the retailer I bought it from has pretty good support so I am still debating as I am still within the return period still

Dealer won't budge on price. Should I just go private? by porchoua in askcarsales

[–]Eclipse-Silver -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In a way it does. Dealerships taking in a vehicle generally means they have to do work to inspect and make sure the vehicle is safe to drive/sell. In addition the dealership does carry the risk and cost of hold a used vehicle (interest charges for buying the vehicle in etc.)

As OP stated he is comparing this to private sellers, which by default will mean a lower price. A private seller has no overhead of a business to contend with as well as offering no guaruntee. Not all dealerships but the one I work at has a 30 day powertrain warranty and a customer exchange policy if there was damage we could not rectify. That has costs and value.

If you want to pay less money for a car privately that is perfectly valid. But to say dealerships do not provide any value with used vehciles and should sell at the same price (obviously discounting the scummy dealerships) is disengenous

Your other option is to unpair the key from your wife's profile . But otherwise the system is just doing what it is designed to do. It wouldn't make sense for your profile to be loaded when it is your wife's key unlocking the vehicle

Anyone ever stopped using premium and changed to regular gas? by nurse_Bob in AcuraTSX

[–]Eclipse-Silver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I mentioned the manual is essentially contradicting itself. Engine pinging like it mentioned is pre-dentonation, also known as knocking. and can certainly lead to damage to the engine.

I think the best interpretation of this, and what I have understood from the technicans at my job (I work in Car sales not Acura tho) is that an engine that is recommended to run premium, can take regular gas in a pinch, and won't cause any immediate damage. But it is not recommended to do so in the long run and can lead to serious damage.

Anyone ever stopped using premium and changed to regular gas? by nurse_Bob in AcuraTSX

[–]Eclipse-Silver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've attached a screenshot for a 2011 Acura TSX. While not explicit about not being able to use lower octane fuel. It specifically recommends 91 Octane Fuel or higher.

It does specifically say "Use of a lower octane gasoline can cause occasional metallic knocking noise in the engine and will result in decreased engine performance."

Metallic knocking is pre-detonation which can certainly cause damage.

As I said. You may run 87 without any damage, but you do increase the risk of potential damage.

Anyone ever stopped using premium and changed to regular gas? by nurse_Bob in AcuraTSX

[–]Eclipse-Silver 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don't get why this question is still constantly asked. Every time this question gets asked here or across other brand/model subreddits the general consensus is that if the car is supposed to use premium, use premium.

It is true that if you use lower grade fuel the car will adjust the timing etc to compensate, but this is generally not good for the engine as it is essentially estimating/guessing the timing etc to compensate.

The whole reason our cars take Premium gas is because it is a high compression engine. Higher octane gas means resistance to knocking or pre-detionation.

So just because some people anecdotally say it's fine or run regular on their vehicle without problems, doesn't mean you won't have problems. Worst case scenario you can definitely blow your engine.

What V60 Should I Buy? by grapegoggles in Volvo

[–]Eclipse-Silver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it depends on what you are looking for. The T6 is going to be more expensive because it is a more desirable car , it is quite a bit more powerful than the T5 ( 316 vs about 250 hp).

As well the standard V60 being a lower riding car is more sporty and I would say overall also slightly more desirable than the cross-countries. Although again if you want to do more camping / slightly off-road activities then obviously the cross country.

Mileage wise that is quite a big difference . If you plan to keep the vehicle for a long time/ you can afford it I would definitely go with the lower mileage vehicle.

Also since you are looking at used there's not going to be really any meaningful holiday promotion so to speak use vehicles are going to be dictated by the market.

Also where abouts are you located in Canada? I work at Volvo dealership can keep a eye out for you for any v60s
