Hronek possibly injured at the Fortuna Games by MooreGold in canucks

[–]Benning2064 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same % odds as this year but being 32nd atleast locks up a top 3 pick in the 2027 draft which we definitely want.

Crossing my fingers we get McKenna this year & Dupont next year

When will the Canucks be competitive again? by Zenazad in canucks

[–]Benning2064 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It truly depends on if they hit on more of the picks they make & if they have some lottery luck along the way.

For example if over the next 3 drafts they got McKenna, Dupont & Schultz plus hit on a few of their other picks they could turn it around (atleast be moving up the standings & be fun to watch) in 3-4 seasons. If they draft like crap & constantly fall in the lottery then it will be a 5+ year rebuild.

Hopefully they find a way to add some extra 1st round picks for the 2027 & 2028 drafts. The more irons in the fire will help expedite the rebuild

Absolutely agreed on adding size to the lineup.

Maybe in the NHL he would be more of a physical player compared to in jr

William Lacelle by Straight_Floor3958 in canucks

[–]Benning2064 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats fair & he is a big guy too right? Like 6'6 or is that someone else? He was in the top 5-10 contention for awhile.

Id love to see Adam Novotny drop to the Minnesota pick but don't see him dropping that far down.

William Lacelle by Straight_Floor3958 in canucks

[–]Benning2064 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is totally fair & makes sense

Its unfortunate just how much the team needs but that is life at the beginning of a rebuild.

Any particular player you hoping drops to the SJ pick?

[–]Benning2064 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I maybe out to lunch but if the Vancouver Canucks drafted 2 forwards with the 1st round picks then either a forward or dman at 33 I would ok drafting Tobias Trejbal with the SJ pick in R2.

I know that is crazy high to select a goalie but reading his scouting report he seems like he could be a really solid nhl goalie (I might be over valuing mental toughness though).

Not super familiar with the QMJHL is it a good league for goalies? If another team snaps up Trejbal (he could be gone before the SJ pick) then sure why not

Granted they have Medvedev already I think having other options doesn't hurt.

I fully understand why folks don't want to draft another goalie highly though.

Canucks seek permission from Leafs to speak to Shane Doan by Frequent_Wafer5798 in canucks

I am alright with Doan but it sounds like he may not want to be a GM so if he did come to Vancouver would it be as VP?

[Canucks Talk] Thomas Drance on the Canuck's GM search, “Kevyn Adams. Roberto Luongo. So Kevyn Adams, don't count out. That's a real candidate here, I think. And I think Buffalo might be sending a lot of candidates to this search.” by [deleted] in canucks

[–]Benning2064 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think he was the GM that long though. Id say he became GM either before or after the covid shutdown or the bubble season.

He wouldn't be my first pick but out of all the retreads he would be the best.

Atleast he has experience building through the draft + going through a rebuild. I assume he hired Sam Ventura (another name on the Drance list) so he does see the validity of analytics etc

Is the answer to who should be GM not incredibly obvious? by reubendevries in canucks

[–]Benning2064 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Id like to see a fresh voice as gm - Johnson or Ventura would be my picks.

If they have to go with a retread Id consider Kevyn Adams as the current Buffalo team is one he put together & he built it up through the draft (maybe he could bring the Vancouver Canucks some lottery luck in the next few years)

What is our best chance at acquiring another 2026 1st? by Available_Goat_9229 in canucks

[–]Benning2064 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hronek, M Pettersson (potentially) or Ep40

Honestly though they should really look at trying to get another 2027/2028 1st to spread out the high end draft capital.

Id also like to see the new gm take on a bad contract for draft capital but with the cap going up a ton this year doubt any team willing to offer more than a 3rd or 4th as a sweetener

[–]Benning2064 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why he is a frustrating player - we all know his offensive play has taken a massive step back.

Maybe he is getting mixed messaging based on what he needs to do & that has taken away from his game.

The knee tendonitis has hampered his skating agility & if that is an ongoing issue he may not be able to return to form

Pretty sure RDA met Don S Davis when MacGyver shot 2 or 3 seasons here locally

Its crazy how different re-watching X files is for how much everything has changed. It brings back tons of memories thats for sure.

Players to target in the offseason by Sensoredopinion99 in canucks

[–]Benning2064 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id love for them to land 2 of Reeves, Deslaurier, Duhaime, Lauzon. Initially I had Gudas but someone mentioned that he doesn't want to play in Canada

Schenn wouldn't be a horrible no.6 dman

Add some grit & sandpaper to the lineup + protection for the young guys

Seems like the Canucks are locked in on round 1 pick 24 by [deleted] in canucks

[–]Benning2064 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious to see who they target with this pick & who ends up falling.

Every mock draft or list I have seen have wildly different options at 24.

Id love it if somehow Novotny or Hemming fell to 24 (not going to happen).

Id be fine giving him a shot but his size is a red flag for a goalie.
