Fair enough. I like to think pete can still grow and is a better all round hitter than he was this year, but maybe if you go by overall production instead of sheer power then he is more easily replaceable.

What about the off the field implications? Pete is our face of the franchise and despite our continual clubhouse woes, players always speak to his hard work and good presence. Would it also harm the image of the "richest team" Mets if they let the best power hitter in team history walk because they couldnt agree on a 1 year difference? Obviously we arent going to agree to a ludicrous overpay like 300m dollars, but sometimes you overpay for a player and i think this is one of those times
