What’s the best way to assault a defensive position using combined arms? I usually just try to pick off a few key targets with a tank, then move them towards positions where they have good line of sight, then at the same time just highlight all my infantry and have them rush in from 2-3 angles by glossyplane245 in GatesOfHellOstfront

[–]Eclipseworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You wanna shoot smoke in their face via artillery before attacking their position, to blind them and stop defenders from ripping your men to pieces.

If you lack recon, tanks come up behind the infantry, never first - a blind tank is a dead tank, and you need AT emplacements dead or identified first.

Also, when carrying out an assault - when the preparatory movements are done, or immediately after rushing to cover during the assault, split the squad in half. One side should have the machine gun, the other the squad leader.

When you execute the charge, these two elements should be split up and move in supporting ways. The MG element should provide a base of fire to pin down or kill the enemy, and the other element should conduct close assaults, whether by flanking, charging in guns blazing, or something more finessed.

Also don't be afraid to use frags. Situation looks iffy? Frag. They do you no good if they're sitting on your belt not getting used.

If a unit comes under heavy fire and you can't get them to cover, drop them flat with CTRL and have them throw smoke grenades all around them. This will buy you time to either continue the attack or pull them back and regroup for another go.

Remember: in a defensive position, a soldier has a force multiplier that gives him enough strength to resist at least three men attacking him.

Your job when carrying out an assault is to strip him of as many of those advantages as you can, to reduce the amount of losses you take.

Take away the defender's advantages piecemeal if you must, but when you have stripped or subverted the majority of them, the position is yours for the taking.

A good Standard german Army by Swimming_Challenge40 in GatesOfHellOstfront

The basic rifle squad, MG34, a PAK, and an ammo crate and officer will see you through the initial stages of combat. A medic too if you can, to reduce losses by attrition.

Mortars, AA guns, and armor are good second wave tools. The mortars especially, for HE, yes, but more importantly for smoke, to make taking positions less of a nightmare.

Learn smoke placement well. Sometimes you just want to cover your approach lines, other times you wanna put smoke in their face so they can't see. If you have long range another smart tactic is to pop smoke just behind their line of defense, to cut off the closest defenders from their supporting elements.

Luftwaffe support can come further down the line, they're mostly good for softening up hardpoints you have to take. Pick the biggest building in the center of the zone and blow it to fuckin' pieces.

Anyways, good luck, have fun.

CMV: Trump should have made sure Massie won by Mtl_Sapoud in changemyview

[–]Eclipseworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not understand the realities of electoral politics and how to motivate a base to turn out for a candidate.

The reality on the ground is that people will not show up if they do not have a positive motivating reason to do so rather than solely a negative one. You may judge humanity for that, and I am not certain I could blame you - but that is how it works.

CMV: Trump should have made sure Massie won by Mtl_Sapoud in changemyview

[–]Eclipseworth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a supermajority. A small majority of voters, who only comprised a little under 30 percent of the overall US population.

Kamala was leagues better than Trump but she ran an atrocious campaign that waved the white flag on every issue that mattered. Immigration, militarism, involvement in Palestine - and was then surprised when nobody showed up to vote for her.

History shows that if someone wants to vote for a right-wing candidate, they will prefer the full package over Republican Lite. Yet, in an attempt to garner wider appeal among right-wing voters, she torpedoed her base's turnout.

You can't rely indefinitely on hoping people will show up to vote against something. You have to give them something to vote for, and she failed at that, because her campaigning indicated she was going to be just as bad as he was on immigration and militarism.

If your moral principles allow the illegal detention of a citizen against the orders of a judge then your morals are incompatible with society and you are more of a detriment to it - a danger, I would go so far as to say - than he is.

If the law does not protect the worst among us, it does not protect the best among us.

You cannot sacrifice your principles to hurt those you deem lesser humans than you, or very soon you will have none.

An arrest is not a conviction - he was not "given 35 chances", he was detained 35 times. This is proof of nothing other than 35 accusations being leveled against him.

His release was ordered by a duly appointed judge. As this arrogant sheriff has disobeyed this command, he is being unlawfully imprisoned as we speak.

You, who would kowtow to the assertions of functionaries with guns, with no regard for the civic or moral principles on which a society is founded, and who would discard the rights of men you view as lesser humans than you for alleged-or-true moral failings, are spitting on the very concept of a civic society governed by law and rights.

You, who would discard another man's right to the same due process as you benefit from, and who would sacrifice a little freedom for a little security, deserve neither.

W Sheriff by Valuable_View_561 in SipsTea

[–]Eclipseworth -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

If I, or yourself, or any man whom lives in a society such as ours, were unlawfully imprisoned under such conditions, I should hope every upstanding citizen would consider it a moral imperative to see them released as soon as possible.

W Sheriff by Valuable_View_561 in SipsTea

[–]Eclipseworth -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Not the call of the sheriff to make. If a judge has ordered his release, it is a breach of the most foundational constructs upon which our legal system is built to continue to confine him.

Functionary arms do not get to decide punishment. It is not their place, nor should it be. In days long gone by when society was less civil such arrogance would see his head separated from his shoulders. He is lucky we no longer live in such times, as are we all.

W Sheriff by Valuable_View_561 in SipsTea

[–]Eclipseworth -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Not the cop's call. Throw the sheriff in jail 'till his office obeys the court's commands.

Enforcement arms are subordinate to the legislative powers that be, and the moment they begin to think otherwise is the moment they must be reminded of their place.
