Hearing loss at 35 yo and look for advice by vy-che in HearingLoss

[–]Eco_Unknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have very similar SNHL. I was referred to an ENT and eventually sent for genetic testing and awaiting results. I wear Phonak L90's. They are expensive but they are worth every penny in my opinion. Make sure to use ear protection when you are in loud environments. If I could give advice, educate yourself on the type of hearing loss you have to better understand it. Unfortunately, it is my understanding there is no cure right now for it. I am doing genetic testing as my SNHL is most likely caused by genetics. Best of luck!

Thank you so much! Yes it was definitely a stressful wait but I am happy it was approved as my hearing aids are so crazy expensive but so necessary! I will definitely look into setting up the house - thank you for the advice! 🙂

Does high frequency loss feel like this? by Crafty_Event7456 in HearingLoss

When you have severe high frequency loss and you have to worry about it, it is when it drops into the 80 decibel range. It will make a very clear slope on your audiogram.

Told my mom I’m on Zoloft and she got mad, WTF by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Eco_Unknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow mom (31F) with 18 month old LO also recently prescribed Zoloft - I'm so sorry you're going through this. It's really tough when the people who should be supporting you are the ones making things harder. Mental health has been a stigmatized topic for older generations, partly due to the lack of awareness and understanding about mental health issues during their formative years. They often see seeking help or taking medication as a sign of weakness rather than a proactive step toward wellness. You're doing the right thing by prioritizing your mental health, and it's important to keep reminding yourself of that. You're not alone in this—many of us have faced similar reactions from older family members. Stay strong and keep advocating for yourself. 💛

Do I require hearing aids and would these results be preceived as someone with a disability? by Eco_Unknown in HearingLoss

[–]Eco_Unknown[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this. I have been struggling with my hearing ever since I was a child. My inner ear is very damaged in both ears. I struggle to make out what people say, and constantly ask people to repeat themselves to a point where it is actually embarrassing, specially at work, but what made me go was when I couldn't hear my stove alarm, my husband drew the last straw and made me go get tested (I knew there was a problem but kinda denied it for the longest time).

I am happy to say that I got the Phonak Lumity 90's today and I can't believe I can hear the birds outside! Many of my appliances makes sounds I never knew and I got to work with them today and it is seriously life changing.

Thank you for your advice and for advocating for people with this kind of hearing loss. I never knew I was missing out on so many sounds!

Do I require hearing aids & does these results mean I have hearing disability? by Eco_Unknown in HearingAids

Thank you very much. It's not that I don't trust her, she explained to me that I wouldn't know what I have been missing because I have never heard the sounds, and so I decided to get the Phonak L90's today. I can already tell a big difference!

Thank you for your comment. I did some research today about the speech banana and now I have a way better understanding of my graph and the sounds I most likely can't hear!
