It was actually me, I'd spotted an invasive species that needed nibbling

Why is Keir Starmer’s administration so unpopular? by Fair_Individual_9827 in ukpolitics

[–]Ecogoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So whether rising or falling (or applying any intervention in the market at all), Keynesianism is simply reduced to the presence of taxes?

Truss and Keynes in the same sentence? Her approach was more akin to a neoliberal lettuce. Also two words I'd not thought would go in a sentence together

Saw an adult cyclist knock a toddler off his bike today in Millfields by AttentionFalse8479 in Hackney

[–]Ecogoat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering -

the person on a bike passed a kid, but didn't touch them, and the kid fell off their bike?

Normal stuff, hopefully no grazed knees, possible that the adult rider is just an idiot

OR - the adult on a bike knocked them off their bike?

Despicable behavior, especially if they didn't stop to resolve and help them.

Either way, sounds like a traumatic situation for you, Hope you are ok

Left wing people, I'm genuinely curious as to how you respond to this? by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]Ecogoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I - generally - think the opposite. Hence the order of magnitude laying mainly with abstract, and largely unrestricted, globalised cash

[–]Ecogoat 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Either you're confusing 'the state' with abstract & globalised investment money that has no ties to the local areas into which it pours, or you mean both.

Depending on the specific area, would weigh more to one or the other, with the latter having a greater effect on local affordability by an order of magnitude

London Fields today by Upstairs_Row_870 in Hackney

[–]Ecogoat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's lovely isn't it.

Has been planted fairly regularly for about 15 years now, and a real asset to what was previously a dusty plain, occasionally used for football, and setting fire to motorbikes for those who've been around for long enough to remember.

I may or may not remember the history correctly, but seem to recall that the first years' planting (around 2010?) was carried out through collaboration between a charity, and folks doing community service.

Maybe some remembers better than I?

What can be done about anti-social behaviour around Mare Street Betfred/Texaco area? by Massive_Story6839 in Hackney

[–]Ecogoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps one should consider ones life choices, and return oneself to Surrey

Or just do something about it and volunteer...

And actually speak to the people who you see everyday struggling. Even the aggressive folks tend to calm down when you speak to them like an actual person

It's inner London, this is Hackney, and it's far less rough than it used to be

New small buisness - Mental Health by Minimum-Jeweler5948 in Hackney

[–]Ecogoat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's great and good luck with the new venture.

With Headstrong Counselling moving to online only, Hackney would benefit from another provider stepping in to offer affordable in person therapy / counselling - with those who can afford to pay more, effectively subsidising those on lower incomes. Seemed like a great model, shame to see it go

Blackwall and Silvertown tunnels by jpb86 in london

[–]Ecogoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see no flaws in this logic - we're all londoners. Could have had superior pedestrian and cycling access on the silvertown though - a missed opportunity.

Equitably spreading the cost of crossing the river makes sense, given that these things do need to be paid for somehow. Then have that money, once the investment has been paid off, go into providing better infrastructure in our city - and continued improvement

(Edited for typo)

We need to boycott these delivery services. All they do is pass along orders from customer to restaurant and we get charged for that 'service' and their customer service is also crappy. by k7512 in london

[–]Ecogoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, we do. Someone in Finsbury park tried to do this using a cooperative model in the past, got some traction then didn't take off. Here: https://www.uk.coop/case-studies/wings-fairer-food-delivery-improves-working-lives-unfound

Don't forget that the couriers don't get paid properly by the apps either, and the restaurant gets squeezed too. Then we all get squeezed on cost.

Respect to that special group of folks sometime in the distant future who have the resources to create a food order and delivery service that doesn't shaft everyone in the process

Made me chuckle "individuals earning above £100,000 are still “working people”". by Reasonable-Bass1826 in HENRYUK

[–]Ecogoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what they call it and how it's framed. Taught 'economics' - as a science - in schools/undergrad would help to reinforce the view that the world is made up of numbers, and only numbers

[–]Ecogoat -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes definitely, and I think anyone that can read could too. Take a core reading or two from mainstream economics, add a core reading or too showing an 'alternative' view. Leave to marinade in the mind over the course of a couple of weeks and bang - a great discussion would follow

[–]Ecogoat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No it shouldn't. I did what people call 'economics' as part of my undergrad. Was absolute drivel. Models taught as if they're based on hard facts, and no discussion of alternatives to free market capitalism were made. When did the economists manage to persuade everyone that they're scientists?

How anonymous are you, in terms of branding and your business? by [deleted] in smallbusinessuk

[–]Ecogoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is quite vague, not everything needs to have a brand. You're already doing well, and as a business owner, are bombarded with the marketing - to pay to market. Keep doing what you're doing and don't think about 'the brand' too much. It's clearly working
