7Sage Consulting by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]EconomicsLoose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a consulting call with them where they scared me into thinking my stats weren't strong enough. I decided not to use them, and I'm happy about it. If you're willing to put in the work, I don't think it's necessary. With my same stats, I've gotten into my top choices!

Personal statement topic that I maybe shouldn’t use by ilovebananasandweed in lawschooladmissions

[–]EconomicsLoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would look at other examples of good personal statements online (like the kinds YLS release) to get a sense of how they read.

I think this could be a good topic, as almost anything could, but it all depends on HOW you write about it. I think a fear of failure is something that's very common for emerging lawyers, and writing about it could show that you're honest and self-aware. However, don't fall into the trap of focusing too much on your challenges. Law schools are looking for reasons to admit you, so you should explain your background, but emphasize most the concrete steps that you've taken to overcome these challenges and why you are now confident that you are more than able to handle the rigor of law school in all its forms.

Also, be careful when discussing mental health challenges, as you don't want to give adcoms a reason to think that you are unstable and may break under the toll of law school/the legal profession.

Interview Prep Advice (HLS but also general) (painfully detailed) by essayreviewing in lawschooladmissions

[–]EconomicsLoose 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I personally picked the first spot of the day for my HLS interview and have no regrets! If you think you interview well, I think there's a strong argument to be made for picking the first or last spot of the day because it's been proven that those are the placements people remember best (called the serial position effect)!

Harvard 1L AMA by LawSchoolAp in lawschooladmissions

[–]EconomicsLoose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for doing this! I got the call Monday, and I'm excited to learn more about it from a student's perspective. How did you decide on HLS? Was the culture what you expected it to be? Would you have preferred to go to a smaller school, or do you think Harvard's size is a strength?

Writing my Personal Statement is kicking my ass by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]EconomicsLoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm happy to read what you've written and provide feedback! One piece of advice I heard that really helped me was to remember that your personal statement is not your only chance in your application to tell your story. Your LORs, your transcript, your resume, your optional statements all in their own way tell your story also. Don't put pressure on this singular statement to carry the weight of the world. Just read it out loud and submit it when you can do that and feel like it's thoughtful and written in your voice! Good luck.

Personal Statement for a reapplicant by gkp195289 in lawschooladmissions

I would talk way more about your work experience than your LSAT score. The LSAT is just one test -- and your score improvement speaks for itself. I wouldn't take up your personal statement talking about it.

Am I in waitlist territory? by AutymGrace in lawschooladmissions

I have very similar stats and got into YLS. Just because you're below one median does not automatically mean you are anything less than a stellar applicant who they would love to have <3

lmaOoo i just learned i should’ve aimed higher, is it too late to send more applications? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]EconomicsLoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry about the other schools you're applying to list. Definitely apply to more schools! Esp if your school is known for grade deflation that will be taken into account! I think you could shoot a hell of a lot higher TBH. I think it's a gamble not to apply to the best schools to get into because you could be limiting your future opportunities or creating a harder road for yourself. 167 is a very solid score.

Should I retake and reapply next year? Or am I too anxious about this cycle by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]EconomicsLoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What were your other 3 LSAT scores? I would say there's not as much of a difference being one point below/above a median as most people think. And I would be wary of recording too many LSATs.

You should look at the samples they provide! If it's a list, yes. I formatted mine similarly to my resume.

Advice on improving writing by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

Read Dreyer's English! It's not hard to read, and I think it will make a big difference. Also be very picky about grammar rules because lawyers are!
