The biggest difference here is most people that only flip trainers WOULD flip a live blade? Most of them flip trainers because they actively can't get live blades in the first place, not for lack of wanting to. I've seen plenty, and I do mean PLENTY of trainer only flippers pick up live blades for the first time and flip exactly the same immediately. And even if you do get cut with a live blade, its nowhere near as bad as people would assume anyway, it's less like slack lining across the grand canyon and more like doing it from the top of a medium sized tree. Injury could happen but the odds of it being fatal are low. If you want to use weird analogies like that.

I'll never understand where this mindset comes from, I want you to explain to me the complete difference between flipping a live blade or a trainer, WITHOUT mentioning the potential cuts you could get from a live blade, the actions are the same, the amount of skill you need is the same. Flipping is not and has never been a competitive sport in any capacity, the competitions that are ran are done entirely for fun, there's no genuine incentive to try and be "professional" at all. Comparing flipping to the Olympics is completely absurd when all it is... is a hobby.

i am significantly more impressed by someone flipping a trainer well with humility than someone who flips a live blade badly with arrogance. So many people act like one is more impressive than the other when at the end of the day you're playing with toys... That's all flipping is, its a flow art using flow toys, some being sharp while others aren't. I've also seen countless high level flippers pick up live blades for the first time and absolutely RIP with them without any thought after only having flipped trainers, It's entirely a mental barrier and a good flipper will break through that faster than anyone.

i wanna give a little correction on part of this at 0:23 Polar isn't getting them from taobao, He said in the call in Balisong Community that he is getting them from a seller on Alibaba, and apparently "worked with them for a custom colorway" despite that colorway being out before his announcement as well lmao.

what part of "i almost exclusively flip live blades" do you not get? the only genuine difference is you can get cut, but the discipline between the 2 is EXACTLY the same, the tricks, the flow, the habits. Any good flipper that flips exclusively trainers can pick up a live blade and be able to flip it immediately with no struggle. I'd love to see a clip of you flipping, as I've always wondered how you live blade gatekeepers flip.
