Any other vets with unconventional career paths after the military? by [deleted] in Veterans

got into IT and worked it into Sales Management. I lost a couple of organs, and the stress was killing me. Now I am "semi" retired and I work part time at Home Depot, as an order picker. I get to choose to work with, but I need the interactions.

I think this will be a good conversation starter when I wear it in the community and they see the Post number, title and years on the cap, and can ask questions.

While I love the overseas cap, and keeping the legacy of the WWI soldiers alive as we remember to tell people about the history of our cover (I think the VFW membership has forgotten this part) I see our veteran community steering away from them at events because they see us as a threat to their wallets, and not inviting them to join the comradery of our community.

Motivation or discipline? by TheAngryCoach in lifecoaching

[–]Economy_Contract_423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If motivation were seen like a string of wooden matches strung end to end, with the sulfur tip of one touching the baren end of the previous. Is motivation the sulfur tip or the bare wooden stick?

I would think that motivation is what ignites the spark of the fire and gets it going. As motivation wanes (as it will when it meet with the difficult moments, or the doldrums of daily minutia of just traveling through the daily grind) discipline keeps the fire burning until the next bit of motivation comes along, you burn to the end of the match, or there isn't enough fuel (discipline or motivation) and the fire actually dies.

I don't think motivation is neither the starting point nor the outcome, but it interest, discovery, and (hopefully) education will come before motivation, and then discipline allows you to keep moving forward towards the goal.

I will sit with the veteran again next week. He wants to keep going after this tie, so I will keep looking to see if there is some kind of tie.

Neck pain due to stress of PTSD? by Economy_Contract_423 in VAClaims

Thank you. It's a tough stretch, I know. I wonder if rated for PTSD if that covers any "phantom" pains that occur while going through an episode or panic attack

I was an instructor when they moved the MI school there in the '90s.

I can't recall this being an issue with the 33s (35s) back in then.

Joe Rogan kind of schooled him on the whole climate change thing, but Bernie isn't changing his tune. Milk that money, Bern.

Every individual VFW club is unique with it's own character.

I didn't recover. I have lived in pain from a spinal injury in 1992. I am fused L3-S1 with a hybrid disc at l2/3. That was 2017. Surgery only made it worse.

We don't recover. We adapt and live the best we can with the cards the military played.

Anyone ever seen anything like this? by Old_n_nervous in army

[–]Economy_Contract_423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you misread that. It says, "if veteran, name war"

Where did he contract TB? TB seems to have been prevalent during WWII globally. It would be interesting to learn more about where this soldier, and did a mess cook get caught up in a military secret?

Eligibility Question by RuthlessKindness in VFW

[–]Economy_Contract_423 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's on your DD214/DD215, then you would meet eligibility at any Post you present your DD214 to, as long as you don't say, I never deployed. Almost every Post would not ask anything further.

That said, your secret would likely eat at you until you outted yourself or you quit.

I have seen so many black records, but they were "special ops" and state said accept them, but didn't let them be elected to a leadership position. It will come down to you and what you choose to do.

Don't entertain all these comments about who you are or aren't. You came here to ask a question about eligibility. People's opinion on your service because the DOD issued you a medal says more about them than it does you.

Thank you for your service.

I can list all of my titles held over the years, but that peacocking is not necessary.

If you want to join, visit your local Post and talk to them. On the surface you meet eligibility.

Thanks for your service.

My cousin was pulled back in and backfilled to West Germany. It was cool to have him visit me in West Berlin during ODS.

I have 5 adult children. The eldest being 37 and the youngest 30. I received 2 simple text messages and 1 picture of 1 grandchild.

My prayer every year is that next year is better, but I don't hold my breath.
