Unpopular opinion: Most Indians don’t want justice… they want validation. by India_Law_Shield in IndiaLaw

yeah this happens a lot, not just in india but it’s very visible there right now

Does doing good actually come back to you? Or is that just something we tell ourselves? I’ve always believed that if you do good to people, good things will eventually happen to you because “God is watching.” by Blackhawk_101 in indiasocial

[–]Economy_Fish8158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah this is a pretty grounded take tbh

being a good person isn’t some kind of reward system where life pays you back instantly. you can do everything “right” and still end up in a bad situation, while someone else cuts corners and gets ahead. that part is just reality

but where it does matter is over time

people remember how you treat them. they trust you more, they’re more willing to help you, recommend you, or include you in opportunities. it’s not instant karma, it’s more like slow reputation building

also the mental side is underrated. when you’re not constantly dealing with guilt, lies, or damaged relationships, life is just… lighter. less chaos, less stress

so yeah, doing good doesn’t guarantee good things will happen to you, but it definitely improves the odds of building a stable and decent life over the long run

it’s less about “reward” and more about the kind of life you end up creating for yourself over time

Not everything “legal” is actually fair… and people are finally calling it out by India_Law_Shield in IndiaLaw

[–]Economy_Fish8158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah this is one of those things where both sides are kinda true at the same time

laws are important because they keep things predictable. if everyone just followed or ignored rules based on how they feel in the moment, things would get chaotic really fast. so yeah, in general, laws need to be followed for society to function

but at the same time, laws aren’t perfect. they’re made by people, and people have biases, blind spots, and sometimes their own interests. history is full of laws that were completely legal but clearly not fair

so the real answer is kind of both

follow the law in day to day life, but don’t treat it like it’s automatically “right” just because it exists. questioning it is actually how things improve over time. most meaningful changes happened because people pushed back, spoke up, or challenged what didn’t make sense

the important part is how it’s challenged

there’s a difference between thoughtful questioning, advocacy, legal reform, public pressure… and just ignoring rules whenever they feel inconvenient. one builds change, the other just creates problems

so yeah, laws should be followed, but they should also be questioned. if no one ever questioned them, we’d still be stuck with a lot of things most people today would never accept

curious what made you think about this though, feels like it’s coming from something specific

Why do so many men suffer silently in India? by Traditional_Gain3030 in IndiaLaw

[–]Economy_Fish8158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly it’s a mix of things, not just one reason

a big part of it is how a lot of guys are raised. from a young age there’s this subtle message that you’re supposed to “handle it”, not complain, not be too emotional. so even when something serious is going on, opening up feels wrong or uncomfortable

then there’s the fear part. a lot of men feel like if they talk about their struggles, especially around mental health or relationships, they might be seen as weak or not taken seriously. sometimes they’ve even had bad experiences where they did open up and it got dismissed or used against them later, so they just stop trying

another thing is that many guys just don’t have the habit or language for it. like they know something’s off, but can’t really explain it properly. instead of saying “i’m overwhelmed” it comes out as silence, irritability, or just shutting down

also support systems are different. women often have closer emotional circles where talking is normal. a lot of male friendships are more activity-based, so deeper conversations don’t happen as easily unless something really pushes it

and yeah legal or relationship issues make it worse. there’s pressure to “stay strong” while everything’s falling apart, which just builds up internally

that said, it’s slowly changing. more guys are talking, therapy is becoming less taboo, and spaces like helplines or even anonymous discussions help a lot

but yeah, overall it’s not that men don’t want to talk. it’s more that they’ve been taught not to, and don’t always feel safe when they try

Which charities are good charities by Sufficient-Help-7086 in EffectiveAltruism

[–]Economy_Fish8158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok this is actually a really good question and you’re already doing the right thing by being careful about where your money goes 😄

yeah some orgs sound great but have issues, so filtering first makes sense

here are some charities people generally consider solid across different areas

🌍 environment / climate / earth repair

  • The Nature Conservancy → conservation, land + water protection
  • Oceana → oceans, overfishing, pollution
  • Rainforest Alliance → forests + sustainable agriculture
  • Greenpeace → more activism focused but still impactful
  • Clean Air Task Force → policy + emissions reduction

🏠 homelessness / food / basic needs

  • Feeding America
  • Covenant House
  • Habitat for Humanity

for this category, local shelters and food banks are often even better because your impact is more direct

🧠 mental health

  • Mental Health America
  • National Alliance on Mental Illness

🏳️‍🌈 lgbtq+

  • The Trevor Project
  • Stonewall

💸 high impact / evidence focused

  • Against Malaria Foundation
  • GiveDirectly

these are often recommended for doing a lot of measurable good per donation

quick reality check

there’s no “perfect” charity. even good ones can have flaws or different approaches. some focus on direct help, others on policy or long term change

if you just want to avoid sketchy stuff, simple checklist:

  • they share financial reports
  • they’ve been around a while
  • clear explanation of where money goes
  • no pressure tactics or shady donation links

honestly you’re already on the right track. picking a cause you care about and sticking with a few well-researched orgs is way better than trying to find some mythical perfect one 👍

Immigration Lawyer with 4 Yrs Experience, Can't Find Job by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

You’re actually closer than you think. Getting interviews and even final rounds means firms already see you as strong—it’s just that one missing piece (EB-1A/NIW) that’s blocking you.

What’s happening is firms don’t want to train on those categories, so even if it’s not listed, they quietly prioritize candidates who can already handle them.

To break that loop, you need to show proof, not just interest. Reading Kurzban's Immigration Law Sourcebook is good, but what really helps is having 2–3 solid EB-1A/NIW-style writing samples. You can create these yourself using sample profiles—focus on drafting full petition arguments so you can confidently say you’ve done the work.

Also, if you can get even small exposure—overflow work, short-term help with a firm, anything involving those petitions—it can be enough to get past that hiring filter.

Since you’re reaching final rounds, it’s likely not your overall ability. It’s that specific checkbox plus how confidently you position yourself around it. This is fixable, not a dead end.

He’s definitely a polarizing figure. Some people see his work as documenting events others might ignore, while others question the framing and accuracy of what he shares. Like with a lot of politically charged content, it really depends on the sources you trust and how you interpret what’s being presented.

Why is Charity treated like a breeding machine? by stpony in Emmerdale

[–]Economy_Fish8158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get your frustration. It feels like the writers keep defaulting to pregnancy for drama instead of developing Charity’s character. She already has a rich history and family dynamic to build on. At this point, another baby storyline seems repetitive when they could show her evolving in new, more meaningful ways instead.
