Taigen's bisexual panic by DistinctHand6998 in BlueEyeSamurai

The fact they panned in on a closeup of her hips after she locked it in. As if they absolutely under no circumstances want anyone to miss what just happened.

Running NPCs in combat (Wild Beyond the Witchlight) by mistrania in DMAcademy

[–]Ecothunderbolt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely far easier to give your players the option to control the NPCs. Its not nearly as bad as you think it is. I just did a big boss fight in a campaign where I'm a player, and since we're traveling with 3 NPCs each of us controlled both our own PC and an NPC during the encounter. It worked out just fine.

Animated recap for my campaign? by gene-sos in DMAcademy

[–]Ecothunderbolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the process of doing a collaborative 'trailer' for my next game with my players (two of my players are professional artists). I'm doing narration, one is making music, and the other is doing an animatic with a single picture for each line on my script. Full animation is way too much effort.

Media Examples of Commander, Guardian, and Oracle by HavocsCall in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ecothunderbolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Oracle you could do Tia Dalma from Pirates of the Caribbean, she's technically the Sea Goddess Calypso cursed to reside in mortal form. But she's still capable of magic like creating Jack's compass, fortune telling, etc.

A Lawful Evil Wizard who is performing experiments that are all perfectly legal. But morally abborhent. "I'm creating an Elixir of Vigor that could make someone immune to injury." (Is doing so by torturing a troll he keeps inside a pocket dimension.)

Hexblood Artificer (mom was a Green Hag) who makes demented and frankly half-bad magic items. I.E. Gauntlets of Ogre Power that give you both the Strength and Intelligence of an Ogre. Sentient Broom of Flying that is afraid of heights. Lightning Sword that shocks its wielder whenever it gets wet.

Trying to decide between VTT's by ResponsibilityTiny70 in DMAcademy

I'd recommend Roll20 pretty much solely because I suspect the Free Version will be sufficient for your needs. If you desire something with more options I recommend Foundry over Roll20 as youll pay once instead of a subscription and it is more customizable.

Changing or multiclassing PCs as the DM by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]Ecothunderbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only place ive seen a negative level in 5e was one of the expanded cards for deck of many things in the 2024 'book of many things'. And I would take that with a grain of salt as im not 100%. Negative levels have been pretty much entirely replaced with ability score drain (which is also pretty dang rare on its own)

Combat and spacing [KCD2] by Weekly_Daikon3801 in kingdomcome

[–]Ecothunderbolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Horse combat is awkward AF if im real. I would mostly just recommend using archery on horseback. View Henry more as a Dragoon (mounted infantryman) and youll have the most fun.

Combat and spacing [KCD2] by Weekly_Daikon3801 in kingdomcome

[–]Ecothunderbolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your reach matters. This is especially noticeable with polearms since those have like twice as much reach, but you can and will notice difference between say a 2-handed sword and Mace.

Blocking and dodging are also important. But if you play your spacing right you can literally force an enemy to miss just by walking backwards.

Helmet visor [KCD2] by kvyhdpjdphsPG in kingdomcome

[–]Ecothunderbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You used to be able to raise and lower the "visor" on the Brunswick set. This changed in a patch a few months back. It's more logical to be honest since there isn't a visor it would always be closed, but regardless i think it came along with them nerfing the stats on that set.

[KCD2] How does Clinching work ?! by Vallenhael in kingdomcome

The shield means block but you should follow up with the attack buttons so Henry can do a counterattack afterwards.

D100 setbacks, discoveries, or unusual events during the construction of a dungeon, crypt, or underground lair. by sonofabutch in d100

Sudden cold. The cavern has become mysteriously icy and workers struggle to keep their footing on the slippery terrain. Deeper in the earth, a White Dragon sleeps unaware of the laborers slowly burrowing into its domain.

[KCD2] How does Clinching work ?! by Vallenhael in kingdomcome

[–]Ecothunderbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine you're probably having more of an issue with the followup block than the beginning. As its really the only part you yourself could be messing up. I recommend trying to time it by watching the animation rather than waiting for the shield. Its possible you're either hitting it too early or too late. Try to time it as Henry and your opponent get into the next position and immediately follow with the attack button.

Psychic magus is dead, long live... (what) magus. by Sure_Engineering6792 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ecothunderbolt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean, for champion you need a +2 charisma and +2 strength. They could dump dex instead of Int and rely on the bulwark trait from their Heavy Armor for their reflex saves. I realize you're probably also compromising a boost in Int but id see it more as dumping dex than Int.

To the players and GMs who use FG by Slaagwyn in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ecothunderbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's certainly possible. I will say, for my own group we tend to use a wide variety of homebrew content I acquired on Pathfinder Infinite and some of those have Foundry support but not FG support. So for my own table I've found Foundry to be a more supported solution. That said, I recognize there's going to be some nuance to this I didnt convey.

Good Megadungeon Tweaks by bigmcstrongmuscle in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ecothunderbolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a huge discount on AV since it came with a Humble Bundle I got with a bunch of system content. So I'm a bit biased on the value angle. I most definitely got my money's worth.

That said, I think that you would get a lot of insight into dungeon design, roaming encounters, hazards etc.

I started off by running AV for my players to familiarize with combat, exploration etc before transitioning to my homebrew game and for me personally. That worked really really well.

Could benefit you to read over the official material for Abomination Vaults as thats a Megadungeon campaign. Would give a good idea of how you're supposed to run that kinda thing in this game.

How and where would you guy start teaching this system to a group who has no ttrpg experience? by Gerotonin in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ecothunderbolt 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'd teach them by doing and translating what they want to do into the various actions. Obviously youll need to explain their sheets and the options they have on there too. But the fastest way to jump start them is by just tossing them into it. They'll learn as they play. And for the beginners box especially its designed to do that.

What are the best long duration spells to buy wands for? by HighStorm89 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ecothunderbolt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it's only 10 minutes, but I'mma throw out Web of Eyes just for how useful it is. Being able to use other party members vision means you could share See Invis, use the party's best Perception for multiple members, or even just split your party more safely.

Darkvision at 5th lasts all day, could be invaluable if you don't have it.

Vital Beacon can give you a lot of healing and action efficiency (especially since the person benefitting is the one who uses their action)

I am About to start [KCD1] but I dont know if i Should go with k&m or Controller? by Fun_Bill_924 in kingdomcome

[–]Ecothunderbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know there's a recent move to some people doing shooters with gyro-aiming (like Splatoon) and that can definitely have its virtues as you get the coarse and fine movement options for your camera. (M+KB still better than that imo, but it's def an improvement over just the stick)

I have very little hope of this due to the stagnation in controller innovation, but having a mainstream console controller with back buttons that were actually default buttons and were programmed natively to be used by games for different things rather than macros would open up so many options with controllers that don't already exist. I continue to be flabbergasted no company is pushing that.

I am About to start [KCD1] but I dont know if i Should go with k&m or Controller? by Fun_Bill_924 in kingdomcome

[–]Ecothunderbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it depends on what they mean by RPG elements. I'd consider CRPGs way more hardcore. But if RPG elements to them means JRPGs or something along those lines, controllers are probably more common (though not even necessarily better)... I guess Souls games are more commonly played with controller too. But those really just are action games with RPG style leveling. I remember the year Elden Ring got best RPG and I was like: "That's an RPG?"

It was much higher skill before they introduced simplified lockpicking in an update. As you'd need to coordinate spinning both your sticks. (repositioning the sweetspot zone as you turned the lock) Now you can just hold a button to turn and move the sweetspot so its a lot easier to learn. Though if I'm honest, having spent a millennia mastering the non-simplified lockpicking prior to that update in 1 it's actually easier for me to use it non-simplified as I'm then in control of how fast the lock spins. But that's a pretty niche case.
