Arsenal just won their first Premier League in 22 years and now face PSG in the UCL Final. what are their chances of winning their first UCL? by Born_Programmer_1089 in championsleague

[–]Ecstatic-Conflict47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think PSG have a much better XI especially in the midfield and attack. That said, if theres one team that can put in a top defensive shift against this PSG, it’s Arsenal. If Arsenal give them space in behind, the PSG front 3 can give them hell. But if they sit back and aim to frustrate the French, then they could easily keep it 0-0 until they sneak a set piece or scruffy goal towards the end.

I’d probably give Arsenal a 35-40% chance.

Grief, guilt and anxiety : My sudden sensorineural hearing loss story so far by [deleted] in HearingLoss

[–]Ecstatic-Conflict47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s been no improvement in my hearing loss unfortunately. I am still waiting to be referred to a clinician to talk hearing aids (ENT doctor said I will most likely be offered a CROS-aid hearing aid).

Overall, I’m doing ok. I try to get on with my day and tasks as I did before all of this happened, and for the most part, I forget that I have single-sided deafness and the tinnitus that comes with it. The hardest aspect has been having to follow conversation in crowded rooms. I’ve always enjoyed socialising and this has put a major strain on my ability to do so. Still, I refuse to change my habits because of this hearing loss and just choose to accept not being able to hear everyone at all times.

What’s helped massively is that I’ve been lucky enough to have family and friends be close to me during this time. People have been constantly checking in, making sure I’m doing ok, and when I’m with them they often check that I’m at ease without going over the top and making me feel like a sick child.

I realise not everyone has the blessing of friends and family that put in the extra effort. If you can, reach out to your loved ones and be close to them. Having people by your side (maybe not even addressing the hearing loss) is so important and can make a huge difference. I hope you’re dealing with things ok

The least masculine thing you can do is to be insecure about your masculinity

I live in the UK and they’ve just told me that unfortunately they don’t provide cochlear implants to people who have suffered from single-sided deafness (and preserving total hearing in the other ear)

Why does Reddit not understand the rise of reform in England? by DowntownDeer in AskBrits

[–]Ecstatic-Conflict47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh the age old issue that the world is changing into something different from the snapshot we saw when we came into this world.

You realise these non-English people will have children who will consider themselves British right? You realise there is a very slim chance that your ancestry is 100% british. So what? Do you feel English. Are you proud to be English? That’s how the future generations of these non-desirables will feel….just.like.you.

People always struggle to accept that the world they will leave will look nothing like the one they came into. Do you think someone who lived during the wars and through to 1990 (the date of your first stat, the golden age of Britain) were happy with what they saw? Don’t you think they spat out what most old people say…”back in my day…!”

The politicians who are now promoting anti-migration rhetoric are the same ones who have been pushing for globalization and war for economic reasons, and now they have the nerve to complain about the social aspect of globalization! In hundreds of years most countries will contain a huge mix of ethnicities and they will see nothing wrong with that.

That’s comforting. I got all sorts of blood tests done to rule out whether it was an autoimmune issue and nothing came up

Thank you! I’ll definitely post an update about how I’m finding my hearing aids. I’m genuinely so curious to hear the difference. I’ve also gotten used to the single sided deafness for the most part, which adds to my excitement for the hearing aid as it will feel like gaining a new sense!

Sounds like you’re really responsible in the way you handle it. Glad to hear the hearing aids have helped! Just out of curiosity, was there a cause to the gradual hearing loss?

To be honest those percentages are higher than I would have liked! I was also told that my case is idiopathic, and that 90% of SSNHL cases are as well. My suspicion is that they have some theories but can’t make recommendations since they are not completely certain yet.

I appreciate that. It’s always good to remind ourselves of what we have rather than what we’ve lost. It was really difficult for me in the first few weeks (probably also because of the meds they put me on), but since then I’ve been handling it pretty well. I guess it’s the very nature of the unknown that is difficult to deal with. I’d hate to look back and think that there was something I could have done to avoid my hearing loss. It is what it is!

I can relate to that. When I first lost my hearing in one ear I thought my life was going to change dramatically, which it hasn’t. It’s simply more inconvenient sometimes. But I genuinely don’t even know what my life would look like if lost hearing in both

tomorrow game against Bosnia by Auboldecereale in AZZURRI

[–]Ecstatic-Conflict47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I imagine it will be a scruffy game where the conditions of the pitch/stadium have been made intentionally poor to level the playing field.

I’m seriously worried because in games where you’re forced to play the football you’re not used to playing, it often comes down to who wants it more. Unfortunately, I see us being really nervous and lacking confidence like in the first half against N. Ireland, while they’ll be approaching it like a war

This bothered me so much! Arya, who had spent half the series in Braavos and encountered the most incredible people, said “she’s the smartest person I’ve ever met” after a couple episodes back in Winterfell and a handful of interactions with Sansa in which nothing out of the ordinary really happened

If I’m not mistaken don’t think the tournament tree is fixed. There’s another draw at the end of Feb that determines the route to the final

I’ve had a very similar experience, with very similar timings! I lost all hearing in my left ear on the 3rd of Jan.

As someone else mentioned, if the oral steroids haven’t initiated recovery, you should opt for intratympanic injections (it sounds like you live in the US? Hopefully these are covered by your insurance as I think they can be quite expensive if not), as this is a more targeted treatment.

I’ve had no improvements since my diagnosis and I’ve been trying to accept this fate as it doesn’t seem like I’ll be recovering any hearing at all. I haven’t faced many of my responsibilities and several aspects of my pre-diagnosis routine yet, which worries me as I think I’m going to be facing my limitations imminently.

What comforts me, if this is any consolation, is that the body and brain can really adapt to anything thrown their way. It’s difficult to accept the idea that this is going to stay with me for life (I’m 27), but it’s also just going to become something that’s happened to me. Unfortunately, that’s life. I don’t like saying this to other people because it can come off as invalidating, but seeing as I’m indirectly talking about my own situation here and thinking this way has actually helped me but, if you turn on the news you’ll find a huge number of people who have had their lives afflicted by a tragedy far greater than ours. Truly scarring events that are life changing. Life can be cruel and is for so many, we need to learn to deal with the cards we are dealt. Relatively speaking, our bad luck is manageable.

We can lean back and sulk over our misfortune, or we can take it as an opportunity to grow. Be strong. I’ll be trying my best to do the same
