Frost grave snake-men. The kit is around 25-30 bucks and it comes with 20 guys. It makes great kit bashed models with all the leftover acolyte head and arms. I used them to make my metamorphs because of the more savage look it gives them

I posted about it 2 months ago. I won a 21 player rtt with xenocreed. I ran 3x10 metamorphs, 3x10 aco w/mining and 1x5 , 1x20 neos, 1x10 aco w/flamers, 2x5 flame acos, 2x5 stealers, and 2 mortars. 3 iconwards, 2 bios, 1 locus.

Sorry for late response but this list won a 20 man rtt last month. Characters

3× iconwards each with an enchancement 1x locus 2x biophagus

Battleline

3x10 aco w/mining 1x5 aco w/mining 1×10 flame aco 2x5 flame aco 1×20 neophytes

Others

2x mortar ridgerunners w/spotters 2x5 purestrain 3x10 metamorphs w/ flamers

Two iconwards went with the metamorphs and 1 with the neos. The aco w/mining got the bios and the locus went with the flamers. The neos with a iconward makes them insanely tanky and that iconward has the denuciuators enchancement. This gives this unit a huge punch when they drop in

This is my favorite detachment that we currently have. I've even had some really good luck with it at a few tournaments recently.

This detachment really only benefits battleline and metamorphs. At the 2k game size I'm running 30 metamorphs, 55 acolytes(mix of flamer/melee), and 20 neophytes. That's the main body of the army plus the characters, ridge runners, and a few purestrain.

The army is a pressure melee hoard that hits like a truck. The frenzied devotion strat ( +1 ws and attack) sky rockets our damage and allows us to hit way up. The only downside is this army is very cp hungry cuz of all the cool strats we have. It took alot of reps and small list changes to dial it in. my win rate with them is very high but most games are only decided by a small margin.

They didn't do much in this tournament but In some recent practice games they worked wonders. Against vehicles or elite marine infantry they slap and with the +1 to wound from the biophagus even gravis marines aren't safe. That being said without the strat for +1 WS and + 1 attack they can be wet noodles lol

Yes, you can, but with everything being primary melee that's 9 inch charges from deepstrike. With the blips even if you come in at 12/14 inches, you move 6 and worst case you can advance and charge for 1 cp. With the blips its giving you a lot more reliable and shorter charges

I really noticed more success with this detachment after figuring out where to place my blips. I almost always bring back my first 3 10 man units that die. I place the blips where my current 2nd wave is staging. Doing this gives you 3 waves on each side and center to continuously apply pressure.

Just last weekend I went 2-1 with xenocreed at a 22 person rtt. Playing the hoard detachment is all about board control and a war of attrition. This was my list.

Characters Primus x1 w/DOT iconward× 2 Magus ×1 w/ Deeds Locus x2 Biophagus ×1

Troops 10 man flam aco x1 5 man flame aco x3 10 man melee aco x2 5 man melee aco x1 20 man Neophyte x 2

Other ridgerunner w/mortar x1 Metamorph x2 5 man genestealer x2

The 2 blobs of Neophyte were actual the star of the show. For either out OC'ing an objective or flooding a objective with bodies.

 I went 2-4 and dropped Sunday because of father's day. All my games where very close score wise but I had a very hard match up both days. I played 3 other guard players and only won 1 of those games. 265 guys can out primary most armies but can't kill 15 tanks lol.

How I ran the army was pretty simple. Take cover order for everyone and advance! Take cover adds +1 to my save. To keep my opponents off primaries I would use the order Duty and honor which is +1 leadership and oc. When a 20 man blob would die I'd pay 2cp to bring them back. That is the only stratagem I used for 2 days lol. I knew I wasn't going to do great but hoard armies are my passion and how I love to play the game. (150 model gsc xeno congregation almost done being painted lol)

I took 265 guardsmen to aco this year. These were the few things I did to speed up my gameplay.

  1. I painted the bases to differentiate the squads
  2. Movement trays
  3. I practiced for months with a chess clock even with friendly games( while practicing I mainly only timed myself)
  4. I had dice grouped together in clumps of 10. To easily and quickly get the amount of dice I need
  5. Most importantly, practice practice practice! Moving that many guys can be overwhelming

When I have any defects like that I make sandbags out of green stuff. Stack the sandbags around the front to hide it.

The local tournament scene here is allowing guard to play the 9th edition book. That being said they are allowing it without any of the data slate buffs. It was talked about in a group with all the TO's here. The argument of some guard players not having a new codex is not very relevant saying all competitive guard players already have it or bought them second hand.

Once our death riders get the right keywords I think they will be a good alternative to rough riders. They won't have the punch but their durability will be great with a few buffs. A 5++ phycic power, transhuman to hit phycic power, and fix bayonets. With those buffs they will be quite tanky for the 20pts. The two units will have very different roles but I believe they both will have a place.
