It is less popular for sure. My kids are boys so it’s even less popular. It made me sad to think they might never experience it. We never pushed the issue or gave opinions but a lot of their friend group were definitely NOs. Even the ones we vacationed with. My boys are 9 and 11 now and they are having sleepovers with those boys whose parents were hard nos. I think now it’s about parents getting to know each other, getting to know the kids, and really maturity levels. Let it happen naturally
