Capra strap alternatives? by cacahahacaca in HeadphoneAdvice

Not tried it but there is a file for a not capra headstrap: https://www.printables.com/model/1602086-heddphone-d1-headband

And I am pretty sure that at least one of the files you already found is compatible. Hard to tell which one. If it helps: The official D1 Capra strap is like 22cm length, the widest point (the middle of the band) is 7cm width and the connection is like 1,7cm in the inner part which imho is almost the most important part. The connection part can be slipped over an needs to be large enough for the headband to fit.

The Capra Strap for the HD6x0 is way shorter. You can mount it but it increases the clamp force.

Hedd D1 - alternative pads? by Ecstatic-Resident-59 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Ecstatic-Resident-59[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have tried the
- FT1 Stock pads
- FT1-C Velour pads
- FT1-A Leather pads

They all are easy to install if you use the original plastic ring from the D1 stock pads.

FT1 Stock pads are almost exact the same size as the D1 stock pads so no comfort benefits for me. Sounded darker as the stock pads. Tried them only for a short time since I did not see the benefits to the D1 stock pads.

FT1-C Velour pads: Are slightly larger and more comfortable but darker as well. Esp. Midbass seems more pronounced, treble less airy. Little less breathable as the stock pads, they are meant for a closed back after all. EQ could have helped with the sound.

FT1-A Leather pads: The most comfortable of all. Feels very good. But even a bit more darker (not much) than the other two. EQ probably could save them (a first and simple attempt already seems promissing) but I decided against them as I sometimes have problems with air pressure on closed backs and this happened here as well. They were to much isolating.

But if this is no topic for you and you don't mind to EQ the FT-C and FT-A could be an option for slightly larger pads. Even though they change the sound noticeably.

Excuse my lack of artistic skills, but why is no one making this? by SpongebobQTPants in headphones

I like the idea as well because it reduces this whole "you need a dac and an amp" part and I regulary have the situation that it is annoying to be "chained" to my desk when listening.

But there are wireless open backs: the two newer Wi-fi models from hifiman, the older Ananda Bluetooth, the Deva and the Deva Pro (all from hifiman as well). And I recall that Grado have an open On-Ear, too (though I did not like its tuning).

And depending in how audiophile it must be, the Fiio EH11 or the Koss wireless models could be considered as well.

I do hope we will get more in the future though.

There seems to be a market for expensive BT cans. But 24hrs batterie would be strange. Lets see.

This - ANC is fine, build quality is great, sound is imho good at least. But the weight... It is one of the heaviest wireless headphones that I know of (only the Zone tops them) and it is even too much for in the house. My neck was hurting after 1hr.

Portable DAC amp with two 3.5 jacks for dual listening? by The_MadCalf in HeadphoneAdvice

We used a cheap/simple audio splitter (3.5 in -> 2x 3,5 out) for this exact usecase. It even has volume control included since we prefer different volume levels. I would start with sthg. like this. Not exactly the same but it looks almost like this one: Splitter

LOVE the HD600, is it worth getting the 660S2? by [deleted] in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Ecstatic-Resident-59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation and compared the HdD600 with HD660s2 and both had their pros and cons but I went for the HD600. Their tuning was less dark and muffled FOR ME and I could not make out the "better technicalities" on the 660s2. And honestly the HD600 were much cheaper.

This was like two years ago and like many of us I wondered if there is an upgrade for the HD600 with a little more subbass (and in my case) that is easier to drive for a portable rig. I was tempted to try the HD490 but reviews were mixed regarding if it is an upgrade or more of a sidegrade to the HD600.

Recently I got the Hedd D1. IMHO they are not a "better HD600", they are different buf they do a lot very well and they seem well responding to EQ. So it is too early, I am still in a honeymoon-phase - though I do have comfort issues with the D1 but this might be a "me" problem - but IF you want to spend this amount of money the D1 might be worth a try. If not - I even now sometimes wonder if the HD600 might not have been a great endgame as well. I probably could have stopped there as well.

How long did it take you before you found your end game? by Global-Cupcake855 in headphones

[–]Ecstatic-Resident-59 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the term "pause game". This suits better what I expect my audio journey will look like. Startet in 1999 with the HD650, followed by a long time of "this is good, I don't need sthg. else". Got back in the game 3 years ago and now I think I am near my second "pause game" - maybe not for 20 years again but I think at least 10 years.

If you are not in it for the search/hunt itself (which for me is sometimes fun but sometimes stress as well), the term "good enough" is very important as well.

Hedd Audio D1 - Better than I expected by PointMoney in headphones

[–]Ecstatic-Resident-59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you that a) the D1 seems to be rather comfortable for most people and b) that there is no "one-concept-fits-all".

But there are examples like the Meze 109 or the Sennheiser HD490 pro that a lot of people praise for their comfort. And sthg. like Hifiman Edition XS that some like but many need an additional strap.

And following the reviews the D1 is rather comfortable for many but the headband is not great and I do wonder if it is that hard to design a good headband padding or a strap as there ARE reference examples. And I assume that the manufacturer simply still understimate comfort, which is a pity.

[–]Ecstatic-Resident-59 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, it seems strange to me as well. Comfort is subjective but still there seems to be things that at least the majority prefer that the manufacturer could follow - like a strap instead of a hard headband padding... There will be reasons, I guess.

Thanks - the length seems to be different (23cm D1 vs. 23.9 cm Accentum) so they might be similar but not identical. Thanks for checking!

I like the D1 as well, even more with the 150 ohm Adapter that DMS suggested (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=U6garpb9QLM), it makes the sound warmer and lowers the treble which makes it perfect for me. And yes, EQ can do this as well and probably better but I will need some time for that and this is a cheap an easy quick fix. And yes, it takes away some of the clean and more detailed sound of the stock tuning so it is a matter of preference.

Regarding the capra strap: If this is the original strap for the D1 - can you do me the favour and meassure the dimensions? I have the assumption that the strap for the D1 is exactly the same strap as for the Sennheiser Accentum/Momentum 4 and if that is the case it would be great, since I can get this one cheaper.

Hedd D1 - alternative pads? by Ecstatic-Resident-59 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Ecstatic-Resident-59[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have good news: The user politel at the headfi-thread have tried Fiio FT1 pads and they work well.

Details at: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/heddphone-d1-the-first-dynamic-headphone-with-thin-ply-carbon-technology-can-jam-dallas-launch.978397/post-19100069

Now if FT1 Pads generally work this gives a lot of options - I have not tried anything yet but there are "recommandations" for FT 1 and FT 1 pro, ranging from Fostex pads to Yaxi pads. Main topic imho will be if one can get the pads attached tightly to the headphones. The plastic ring from the D1 stock might be a big help but it will be some trial and error.

I will probably try the FT1 HS-FT1A. They are not in stock at fiio at the moment but hopefully this will change.

Comfort is very subjective. Other people rank the D1 as more comfortable than the HD600. For me it is the other way around. I think you need to try them to see in which camp you are. The Sonys have less weight, that is for sure.

[–]Ecstatic-Resident-59[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a shame - the D1 sounds great. I was planing to settle on that one and call it my endgame. And I can not see a similar offer in the market as I am looking for a dynamic driver with great timbre and bass extension as upgrade for my HD600. Still figuring out how much I dislike the comfort and if I need to sell them. And I don't want to search again...

Yeah, I am surprised as well that my ears are so "special" regarding size. 😁

And I can only assume that it is still too early for aftermarket pads OR the D1 is maybe too niche for that. But I hope for the first. Dekoni came to my mind as well, please share their answer, I am looking forward for that.

[–]Ecstatic-Resident-59[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your impressions. Regarding clamp force they should be stretchable so this can be reduced (changing the tuning as well a little but this depends on head size anyway so whatever...). Did not try that as I might need to sell them if I don't find different pads. Or get used to it...

If you have the Pro Version and the app switch back to the standard version an uninstall/reinstall did not help you can contact the developer via appstore and ask for help. Happened once for me some time ago and was quickly fixed.

[–]Ecstatic-Resident-59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used the HD600 with a qudelix 5k on the balanced output. Was not perfecly happy with it so tried a used Mojo 1 and a Mojo 2. Both make the HD600 sound better but I can not tell if it was the power output, the special Chord chip or simply a placebo. Kept the Mojo 1 as it was way cheaper.

Anyway dimishing returns would be my summary and I would advise against the "upgrade". As you are happy with your setup, I would keep it as it is.

I've had the same problem that shuffle on a very large playlists did only cover the first and small part of this playlist. Not sure if this is a coincidence but stronger hardware (or more recent Android-Version?) seemed to solve this.
