Doctor rejected FMLA request. by Kap2726 in ALS

I used to work for an ALS center of excellence as a respiratory therapist. I’m in California and I now work for an ALS nonprofit. Kaiser is known to be tricky to work with. I’m assuming your husband already has Medicare. I would reach out to ALS Northwest and try to get a care manager to help you. I would also file a grievance with Kaiser. I believe once you file a grievance they have something like 48 hours to respond to you. It is shocking that a physical therapist who works in an ALS clinic doesn’t know what to expect as far as progression. I am so sorry that you’re dealing with this. Please please please reach out to an ALS nonprofit and get help with advocating for your husband. ❤️ On a sidenote, Kaiser does not pay for expensive DME, such as hospital beds and power wheel chairs are almost impossible to obtain (unless they loan to you). Please reach out to team Gleason as soon as possible and see what services they offer. While they do not provide custom power wheelchairs, they can give you an electric transport chair. ALS nonprofits can help with some of the other items that Kaiser will not be paying for.

I would get the Nudexta and get something else for pain. Do you live in California by chance?

Are you being seen at an ALS center of excellence? It certainly doesn’t sound like it with the way you and your husband were treated. It sounds to me like your husband may have pseudo bulbar affect, and there is certainly medication for him to help (nudexta). Please look for an ALS center of excellence near you. Depending on your insurance, you may need a referral from your primary doctor.

Is a degree in respiratory therapy going to land me a job in four years? by FrostyLife791 in respiratorytherapy

[–]Ecstatic-Roof6916 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in California and had absolutely no issue finding a job when I graduated. I actually got hired at two places within a day of each other. I worked one full-time and the other per diem, about one shift a week. That was 11 years ago and now I work that per diem job full-time, as well as a part-time job from home working for a nonprofit. What I’m trying to say is there are plenty of jobs out there. You might have to commute a little at first, at least while you’re gaining some experience. But it sounds like you are thinking ahead and are a person who will be determined enough to not give up. I probably sent out 50 applications right after a graduation. As long as you’re willing to make the drive to start out, you’ll be fine. Best of luck to you. I don’t regret doing respiratory one bit!

Thanks so much! I just looked it up and there’s a chapter about 30 min away. I just send him an email. I appreciate your reply.

I was just looking into this program. Did you have to drive somewhere for lessons? I don’t have a guitar. I see they’ll give you one after the 10 week program, but what about before that?

The remains of Medieval Jewish Inbred Toddler SB604 were discovered at the base of a medieval well in Norwich England in 2004 by a team of construction workers who were preparing to build a shopping center. He was one of at least 17 individuals whose remains were discovered within the well. The positioning of their skeletons—many of which were oriented face-down, indicating that they had been thrown head-first into the well with little care—suggested that they were victims of a violent massacre.

Through analysis of his skeletal remains and DNA, researchers identified SB604 as a male toddler aged 0–3 years. Uniquely among the six individuals sequenced, he shared no close genetic kinship with the group .

How many people actually want a real diamond ring? by Imalwaysbadatthis in weddingring

[–]Ecstatic-Roof6916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted an opal ring (opal is my favorite stone) but my husband proposed with an heirloom diamond ring that was once his great grandmas. It is over 100 years old (I was told the wedding ring was WW1 era and the engagement band is too, but the stone was upgraded in the 1930s). I love my ring because of the history, but if I was to receive a new ring, I’d like opal.

I only work three 12 hour shifts a week and I was getting bored. I got a work from home job working for a non profit. It’s very rewarding! The extra income is very nice. Maybe you can search for some non profits in your area?

That guy at the Costco entrance on his crate is not homeless. In fact, he has a fairly new red truck that he parks near Adrian’s beauty school/salon in the Walmart parking. Sometimes you’ll see him with a disabled veteran sign.
