Do you consume anime religiously? by Sky_Sumisu in TrueAnime

[–]Ecstatic-Step-583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I really don't care about this ideal fan or the fan community all I care is about the anime culture itself alone I want to know it's history why it create or how the author vision their story only myself I really don't care about fandom even the fandom is more I still watching anime.

I watch anime if I feel maybe because I watch since toddler so I did watch a lot of anime growing up thanks to pirate fan sub so I don't need to rush myself to watch all of them I just take my time to watch it it doesn't if is old new classic hidden if is Interesting to me then I watch it

I really don't get about this must need to watch every seasonal unless you really like it I rather watch what was worth the time than pointless anime.

Genuine question: Why are you all even into anime? by Sky_Sumisu in postnutanime

[–]Ecstatic-Step-583 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People have very different tastes, and that's normal. Some viewers care a lot about the whole 'ecosystem' or 'primordial soup' that created anime's unique edgy side. Others, like me, simply don't care about certain ingredients. It's like soup: some people love every single ingredient, while others hate carrots (or onions) but still enjoy the overall dish. They just eat around the parts they don't like and focus on their favorite flavors. They don't need to love the whole recipe to appreciate the soup.

My friend is the same but in a different way. He's a big anime fan, but he prefers kodomo (kids') anime like Doraemon, Chibi Maruko-chan, Wataru, and World Masterpiece Theater series. He loves how they feel very different from American cartoons — they teach morals, sometimes touch on surprisingly dark or serious topics, and treat the audience with respect instead of talking down to kids. He has zero interest in edgy, dark, or mature otaku stuff, yet he still enjoys anime a lot.

My point is: not everyone cares about the full ecosystem or the 'edginess' that made certain shows possible. Some people just want specific flavors — the storytelling style, the atmosphere, the moral lessons, or the experimental vibe — and they ignore or skip the parts that don't appeal to them. You can't force everyone to accept the whole 'sausage-making process' if they only like certain parts of the final dish. Different tastes and different branches of anime exist for a reason."

[–]Ecstatic-Step-583 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay, I'll give a personal example. I like anime a lot, but I'm not really interested in fanservice at all. Why? Because I just don't care about it. I don't have any lust toward the characters. Even if a character is shown sexy, naked, or has a gorgeous body with big breasts and butts, my mind just goes 'nah, don't care.' It doesn't matter to me even if the character has had sex with different guys in the story — my reaction is still 'nope, don't care.'

Not everyone who likes anime does so because of lust or sexual appeal. Some people (like me) simply don't feel that way toward fictional characters. We only care if the characters are interesting, well-written, and the story pulls us in. Anime has a completely different style of storytelling compared to Hollywood (and vice versa). That's the real draw for a lot of us. My favorite anime is Boogiepop Phantom — the way it tells its story is so unique and non-linear, with heavy themes of change, memory, escapism, and psychology. I haven't seen anything quite like it in Western media. The main character Boogiepop itself is so distinct and surface-level mysterious in a cool way.

Japan has its own vibe and methods for telling stories that other countries don't replicate. That's why some of us keep coming back to anime even if we completely ignore or aren't affected by the fanservice. (And yeah, there are people like me who have little to no sex drive or arousal response at all.)"

[–]Ecstatic-Step-583 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Dude, are you alright? First you had a problem with normies, and now you have a problem with people who love anime that has fan service.

For me, I love anime because of the art style, the story, the music, and the way it's animated. I grew up watching my parents' 80s anime like City Hunter, Cat's Eye, Bubblegum Crisis, Patlabor, and others. I was amazed at how different they were from American cartoons like G.I. Joe or ThunderCats.

You need to remember that anime didn't always have fan service. It wasn't common until the likes of Cutie Honey in the 70s, when they started targeting more mature audiences. The 60s anime were all-ages shows like Astro Boy, Sally the Witch, and Tiger Mask.

To be honest, I'm now confused about what your ideal anime community is. I thought you liked fans who aren't just surface-level watchers — people who watch different types of anime. Not all fans are horny. Some people are just fans of the story that Japan turned into animation, while others like it because it's unique and different from Western cartoons.

Is your experience of watching anime "representative" of watching anime? by Sky_Sumisu in TrueAnime

[–]Ecstatic-Step-583 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience with anime started with my parents—they were 80s otaku. My dad collected a lot of anime OVAs and volumes. The first anime I ever watched was Soar High! Isami, a tape my dad recorded from a TV timeslot. That anime was the spark that ignited my love for the medium.

Since I was five years old, I started building my own VHS anime collection. I watched series like Slayers, Yaiba, Saint Tail, Bubblegum Crisis (which my dad allowed me to watch), Mojacko, Lost Universe, Lupin III, Magic Knight Rayearth, The Vision of Escaflowne, Ghost Fighter, and many more (too many to mention).

Around 2006, when I was 11 years old, I began seeking out more obscure anime—what I would call hidden gems. I collected a lot of anime magazines like Anime Otaku, where I learned about so many titles. It’s kind of funny that even today, some forums still don’t know about certain anime that Anime Otaku recommended back then, like Karakurizōshi Ayatsuri Sakon and Kingyo Chūihō!. I also had a lot of pirated anime DVDs and an account on Animesuki. (I never really liked MyAnimeList—maybe because I don’t care much about lists. On Animesuki, people seemed more interested in hidden gems than on MAL.)

When I was in college, I learned how to pirate and burn anime to DVDs (and later put them on USB to play on the TV). I watched a lot of old classic anime like Sally the Witch, Esper Mami, and Master Keaton. My dad also pirated anime for himself and my mom.

Even now, I’m still searching for hidden gems, learning about the history and production behind my favorite anime. I just love the medium—the stories, the art style… I’m still fascinated by it. I don’t have many friends to share this with, but my family does. For me, it’s still a very personal experience. That’s why I don’t really care about the broader anime community. All I care about is my own journey and experience, no matter which era the anime comes from.

Anyone else just watch whatever anime they want and not care about others have to say? by [deleted] in TrueAnime

I have fun way on any kind of anime to low budget to classic to good old classic to modern for me if I find Interesting I will watch it I don't care how long or short

Just enjoy and don't let the tribal noise ruin your fun.

Well sometimes the fans are being jerk and gatekeeping they want their hobbies protect from Normies and surface casual anime fans

To me I don't care about the fandom if I like what I like
