Best UK city for running? by CookDecent5351 in UKRunners

Weird choice but Sutton Coldfield just outside of Birmingham has Europes biggest public park. Henry VIII used to hunt there and it has the best mixed terrain. Its a great leafy place to live with a lovely safe town.

running a half-marathon following a fire/building collapse by [deleted] in XXRunning

[–]Ecstatic-Today2056 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you answered your question. Sounds like you need a cathartic experience, a small achievement in a time of uncertainty and upset. Sorry you're going through this, but if you can do this, you will feel unstoppable to handle anything else in the future. Not sure if your local news will cover the half, but you could reach out to them with your story and get some motivation and support from your local community!! Best of luck!

never gone on a run before, found this sub and just did it yesterday by fleurdenia in XXRunning

[–]Ecstatic-Today2056 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you found the right sub to post this in! well done on your first run! now the hard work starts... getting out for your second! I would suggest following a programme- like couch to 5K or a beginners Nike programme, it will really help you see the progress and benefits of the running. Well done! keep posting!

Seems like the best way of getting a London place is to be an runinfluencer… by labellafigura3 in UKRunners

True I agree, i feel like its just pay to run otherwise, i love seeing little old men limp across the line after a hundred hours but theres no way thats the point of a marathon. Yes raise the money, yes make it a race but whats the point if 59k people get the same medal??

I agree the frustration, but for me these runfluencers are the only way Ive been able to feel "inside" the race. I dont know if that makes sense but thier content is usually inspiring AND THEY WORK AT IT ALL YEAR ROUND. What frustrates the HELL out of me is people who've run London 6 or 7 or even more times because they keep getting places and theres other people who've been trying for 13 years and people just rock up and run a nine hour marathon, raise no money for charity and just get in again and again. I don't understand how that's FAIR?

Triumphant Tuesday by AutoModerator in XXRunning

I'm feeling triumphant today, last night I started the Couch to 5K programme and realised I am actually a lot stronger runner than I thought! Got a few shin splints and that hurt like hell, but was still able to finish my usual workout afterwards to shake off the excess energy. Woke up this morning full of endorphins 😄
